Is there anything i need to do before rooting.
like removing apps
or setting to factory reset
downgrading, how do i do it if needed
do i lose my paid apps if i root?

how to save my current theme and stuff. im so confused.

It doesn't say find Arab build. It says to find out if you are on the Arab build.

This can be quite easy.

Firstly, ask yourself:
Did I buy my phone in the middle east / Arab country?

If no to the above, then chances are you do not have the Arab build. To be certain, the numbers in post one for software version, if they don't match yours, its not Ara. 2.29.405.5 is world wide English, not Ara.

I really don't see why this is so difficult. Read it properly people and it makes sense

seached cat /proc/mtd and it says i couldn't be found? help please

Thanks

oh, and there's two htc syncs on the link which one do i download?>

It's the second one you downloaded that you want. You have to type it exact and it should do the below:

$ cat /proc/mtd
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 000a0000 00020000 "misc"
mtd1: 00480000 00020000 "recovery"
mtd2: 00300000 00020000 "boot"
mtd3: 04b00000 00020000 "system"
mtd4: 00300000 00020000 "cache"
mtd5: 167a0000 00020000 "userdata"
$

If you're typing it exactly right andnd its not workin, you may have to use adb. That's another faq to read. It's linked in my Sig. Once running adb shell on the pc, use the same cat command as in the emulator

Hi guys,

I jumped into this guide a little thinking I understood things but now I think I'm a bit lost!

Followed the guide noting that I had PVT1 - did this mean I didnt have to worry about the terminal emulator because when I downloaded it and ran it anyway with the "cat /proc/mtd" command it just said "not found"!?!?

Anyway, followed everything else OK and the unRevoked program on my PC said it was a success, I got the "superuser" app in the app drawer and I can also access the clockwork mod recovery (black screen with green writing) when I hold the down volume and power on!

I'm hoping this means things have worked OK..... but not sure what to do now!?!?

Can someone give me an idiots guide to how I can get my apps to install to the SD card! (main reason I tried this was coz I was sick of not having any space to install things despite having a 16GB SD card sat there!)

Thanks for any help guys......

found it, i forgot the space between the cat and /

mine is 40000

$ cat /proc/mtd
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 00100000 00040000 "misc"
mtd1: 00480000 00040000 "recovery"
mtd2: 00340000 00040000 "boot"
mtd3: 0fa00000 00040000 "system"
mtd4: 02800000 00040000 "cache"
mtd5: 096c0000 00040000 "userdata"

Only pvt 4 need to do the cat command.

Now you need to read the memory faq by following the red link in my Sig

Sorry if I'm being thick but, what memory faq?? I've read through most of the red link but I get lost with a lot of the jargon!

All I really want is to be able to install apps to my sd card - is there an easy way to do this now I've rooted?

I use Launcher Pro as opposed to Sense so I'm not overly fussed about changing the look of my phone!

Thanks.........

Thanks for all the help and Info you put on here.

However I have hit a brick wall. I have saved the recovery image to my documents but when I go into unrevoked, file, custom recovery it won't see the file. Yet if I go into my documents its visible.

Anyone else experienced this problem?

whats the file name? Is the extension definitely correct?

In the file properties it says

Type of file : File
Description : recovery-RA_2_0_1_img
Size : 3.84 MB (4,030,464 bytes)

I right clicked on your link and 'saved target as' into my documents

it should have .img at the end of the filename. Can you confirm that is the case?

What if you rename it simply to be recovery.img? Also ensure windows is set up not to hide known file extensions as this can cause issues in the filename.

looks like its a zip and hes got "hide extentions for known file types" enabled in windows :/

EDIT: cant be recovery-RA_2_0_1_img isnt from dropbox or roottools it should be recovery-RA_2.0.1.img

Christ, I can't believe it was really that easy.

OK, all the hard work was done by other people to make it easy, but, it was really, really easy.

Cheers Dan!

Now off to make a nandroid backup then find me a nice ROM to play with.
