Help hero vs moment?

You don't call Samsung's Exchange app 3rd party? Of course it is. Besides, when 2.0 is out, Exchange will be native to Android. Besides, the other 3rd party options actually work better with Exchange than Samsung's version. Touchdown plays better with Exchange.

And putting skins that enhance the UI to your liking are put into RAM when downloaded from the Market or wherever. They don't get put into ROM so no flashing or cooking necessary.
I'm sticking with my plans to get the Sprint Hero on Friday for the following reasons:

1. The Hero is does not have a physical keyboard - I like all touch phones.
2. The Hero is more than a basic Goggle phone - it can handle my Exchange account without the expense of a 3rd part mail app.
3. The Hero has the Sense UI and it does everything I need it to do out of the box - I don't put custom roms on my phones.

Sorry dude. No offense was intended. I was just trying to help you out. That is all. Sorry about that!!!

I read that and DID NOT see where you steped on his d!ck at all. I think he just blew up over nothing. I saw what you wrote and it actualy helped me set my cam on the phone.

thx.

Ok previous Hero owners, now Moment owners...Could you state if it is really worth switching from the Hero and precisely why?!!

I currently have the Hero but the myriad of bugs and issues lately, well I'm thinking of making the switch as well

Thanks for any responses... Is the 800mhz speed really noticeable?

Lol, I blew up? That's terrible because I assumed I was still among the living... that would mean I am now the Undead?!?

In all seriousness, I wasn't mad just saying that it seemed he was assuming I didn't know how to do simple tasks... no harm no foul...

.....Brains.....

Kayawire, As a previous Hero owner, I much prefer the Moment. It simply feels like a better product. The boot-up is faster, I haven't noticed any freezing, The screen is gorgeous, apps seem to run quicker, the keyboard is great... I could go on all day.

The Hero did have some good qualities the olephobic screen was easier to clean, and I liked the social network integration, but the bugs and issues were too numerous. I really feel relief that this phone isn't glitchy, and everything is quite smooth in operation.

Just my opinon, I would never go back to the Hero.

I've had a Hero for a couple of weeks now and am not a fan *at all* of the touch keyboard, so I plan to give the Moment a try tomorrow. Logging in to various applications (email, Facebook, Twitter, etc., gave me lots of error screens because half of the screen is taken up with the keyboard. And certain screens (google search) don't work in landscape mode.

I've never had a smartphone before and, quite frankly, I'm pretty sure the phones are smarter than I am and I'm really frustrated with it. I've had a lot of trouble with email and maybe my expectation that it will work exactly like my yahoo mail on my computer isn't realistic. If anyone has had success with yahoo mail, I'd like to know about it.

The Hero comes with a Mailbox icon and I was able, right on the spot, to select yahoo mail from their mail choices. I can see my Inbox and if I use the Menu > Settings > Delete, I get my Inbox with little checkboxes to do a multi-delete. But I can't see any folder other than Inbox, Draft, Sent, and Trash. So I downloaded the yahoo mobile application using the directions on yahoo. After I log in using my yahoo password (and I prefer that, actually), I have all my folders available, but no mass-delete option. Doesn't seem that replying, in either mode, allows for trimming sections so you don't resend a huge long email with every response. There may be a way, but I couldn't find it.

I also think entering a new web addy into the menu bar is difficult and frequently requires multiple tries. Again, this may well be me not understanding how to use it properly.

If I do end up with the Moment, how do I know that my Hero is wiped of my yahoo mail, FB account, etc.? Just reset to factory specs? Thanks in advance for any guidance.

hm so has anyone regretted switching from the hero to the moment?

I have both phones, and I have to say I like the Hero better, but as I say that, watch how all the MOMENT fans start acting like the IPHONE people!!! how my D#@K is bigger than yours.

I like the some of the items about the Moment. I don't care about keyboard. and it still feels cheaper in hand than the Hero.

ooh ok. thanks for the response.
i'm still extremely split between these two phones. i probably wouldn't have much of a debate if only the hero didn't have manufacturing problems with the screen gasket, it included a proximity sensor (not a big deal though), if its basic apps (e.g. messaging) worked without serious bugs, and if there's a way of disabling the double tap menu unlock.

it would be really nice to use the moment's keyboard and have all of the screen available for viewing but i've never owned a phone with a hardware qwerty keyboard, so i'm not missing anything.

the features i might miss are the hero's social networking integration (2.0 should include this) and multi-touch gestures.

SPEED SPEED SPEED!!! Yes it is noticeable. The laginess of the Hero was driving me nuts!!! The poster up above is right. The Hero does feel much better. But any non-slider is gonna feel more solid than a slider. Anyway, I like it a lot and am happy with the switch. Maybe thefley can say Hero since he can enjoy the best of both!!!!....lol.

I tried to really play with the Moment in store, but I care more about using it with my calendar, contacts and email that I really need to get my hands on a demo and set it up to play for a day.

It did feel a touch cheaper than the hero. Size seemed to be a non issue. The keyboard felt nice, bit the offset from right to left on top of the weird spacebar orientation would take a little to get used to. General navigation did seem a little zippier. And although the screen had more pop and better color saturation, that bluish green tint made it look sickly next to the hero. And I would notice that without the side by side since I noticed it on my newer Centro.

I'll get a demo from my rep and put it through its paces for a day or two to get a better impression. Neither phone is a slam dunk.

While true in hand it does feel more solid, at the same time there was dust begining to collect beneath the screen. solid visible dust. That was after only having the phone for two weeks, I can only imagine how bad it would be after a year. But in general the phone was still solid and felt good.

My wife got the Hero when it came out, and I really wanted to love that phone (just like I wanted to love the Pre), but in the end she could not live with complexity and the messaging issues. Even though we switched to Handcent, which vastly improved the situation (battery), there were still dropped messages and lag to deal with.

We both got the Moment and couldn't be happier, I'm not saying it's ALL the moment (only been two days), I think we learned some valuable lessons about android while cutting our teeth on the Hero, but in the end the keyboard and simpler interface actually proved to our liking.

FWIW I prefer the optical to the trackball, my wife did/does not really use that on either phone, and to be honest I use my finger most of the time. I do miss the multi-touch, but am getting along fine without.

That said I think the Hero Sense UI is going to be amazing in the long run. My wife also thinks the Hero is a way better looking phone than the Moment, I could care less it's the seeming performance gains I'm digging.

Mario, Where to Begin...

This phone would be great for all that you listed

Call quality is Pretty good, on par with, maybe slightly better than Hero

I thought I prefered a touch screen keyboard till I got my fingers on The Moment's physical board, it simply extrudes quality and keystrokes are much more confident, fewer errors.

While the Hero has a 5mp camera, It BLOWS, out of focus, lacks colors, quality is terrible, I hated it. The camera on The Moment while smaller in MPs is much better in every aspect. Who cares if it is 5mp if the photo looks like junk.

Comes with an MP3 Player, and its Android! you can download a different one if you dont like that one. I personally prefer Pandora internet radio, which works flawlessly on Moment unlike Hero, on Hero it froze all the time, every 2nd or 3rd song.. GRRR..

Go for it, I have personally owned the Hero for a month... Was cool at first, it looks great, the UI is all flashy... but then the newness wears ( like within the first day :( ) and you see that the phone is glitchy, freezes, slow pretty much all around, won't run many apps correctly, and then you have to deal with it the next day... and the next... and the next... then texts stop coming in on time, and only arrive when you wake the phone up...*gouge out your own eyes*

Repeat above for Sense UI.

7 Homepages.... like everything in life everyone always wants more of everything.

Bam!! you realized something many folks don't... The Moment is MORE customizable than Hero (yes HTC and marketing lied to you) Sense UI limits you to only HTC and Sense UI.

I have always had Samsung phones... Never had a problem with updates and fixes... got them sometimes twice a month on the Instinct. So in my case that is just rumors... probably HTC/ (insert brand name) fanboys spreading BS.

As far as Android 2.0 I see no reason why it wouldn't come to The Moment, it has been announced for Hero, and Moment specs are higher in nearly every category.

I say why wait? I wish this phone had come out earlier so that I hadn't wasted my time with the Zero.

Ok so I have a Moment and my hero Still (I just added a line with the intent to return. no deposit no credit limit just billed to my account)
The Moment's UI is Much Faster and much less laggy IMO. Largely because of the capacitive digitizer and the poster processor.
However the CAMERA SUCKS... OP I have no idea what your speaking on but the IMO the moments camera is crap compared to the hero's
especially in low light I may attach pictures soon comparison.
Call quality is MUCH better on the moment. and music quality for headphones are better. Clearer Bass and No high frequency noise. Though it still has a noticeable hiss. I tested them on $300 Studio monitor headphones so those with cheaper audio hardware may not notice as much if at all.
I agree with the screen being tinted blue but i actually prefer the cooler temperature. the battery life has been about %50 better in my test.
and as such I will be swapping my Hero's in for moments..

I do have a few things I would like to share based on my experience.
1. I signed in with my Google account on phone and the only thing it showed in my downloads my Better KB. I have other paid apps I have paid for and I cant find them only a link to buy. My roomie signed in with his Google account (after a master rest) and better KB DID NOT show up in market my downloads. it wanted him to pay for it. I was to understand all my apps were tied to my GMAIL acct... Thoughts?
2. I heard the moment has an older version of Market than the hero. Is this True
3. I read the hero is gonna be harder to root? any truth to that?
4. seems like a lot of apps aren't showing up in market for MOMENT. is there a version check?
I really want Ahome full and all the market is showing is Ahome lite.

As it would seem the camera on the Hero is a mixed bag of those who found it good and those who found it bad. I have read conflicting reviews from many people, I can only comment on my experience

SPEED SPEED SPEED!!! Yes it is noticeable.

Maybe thefley can say Hero since he can enjoy the best of both!!!!....lol.

The speed problem I don't see with the Hero after I got the task killer app. I had to put it on the Moment as well. The moment is a nice phone and a bit faster moving between apps but not that noticeable.

The hero will lagggggggggg if you don't kill the running apps that is in the back ground.

And the boot time on my Hero is slower (REAL SLOW) because all the gizmos and icons on 7 screens that has to be loaded to. But I can live with it. Now the Moment will boot right up a lot faster. (The hero is flashier and the moment is quicker)

They are both the best phones out; they both have their good sides and downfalls.

ALL I really care about is that they both will take the Android 2.0 upgrade. I have my fingers crossed.

Why is everybody so worried about getting future android upgrades on their phones? I don't see any reason these phones will not be capable of upgrading to new versions of Android besides hardware incompatibilities (Did a google search, found this: Upgrade Android Operating System - Android Market Help) If anything you will have more luck with the Moment as it isn't really customized at all. Basically Samsung just has to pass on the android OS from google to us, adding only maybe some customization to their phone and the stupid sprint apps.

I'd love to see more reasons for keeping the Hero that don't involve the senseui. The main pros I have seen for the Hero are the LED notification and the cleanable screen. I haven't become very partial to the trackball in the few weeks I've had the Hero, it just seems slower than using the touch screen in most situations. I've gotten pretty good at touching in the correct spots so don't really need it for accurate selection. I thought the camera was pretty crappy on the Hero, but now that I've learned about turning up the ISO and using the touch screen to select the focus I think it may be pretty decent. Videos have been the main disappointment with the Hero for me. They are quite blurry and pixelated, on both youtube and sprintTV (although switching to high quality on youtube has looked pretty nice). Lag has been noticeable on the Hero. Sometimes I'll go to type somewhere and it doesn't respond until after I've typed the first three letters. Also very noticeable with receiving and sending calls. The touch screen keyboard has been pretty nice, but when I make mistakes it can be a pain to correct.

I've had about 15 minutes with the Moment so far. I played one youtube video and it looked GREAT. I didn't have to switch to high quality, but didn't know to check if it was set on high quality. I tried typing with the keyboard a bit (never used a phone keyboard before) and it felt very easy to not make mistakes. I didn't feel like I needed the handicap of auto correction, therefore reducing mistakes to be made. The phone felt a lot quicker to respond than the Hero.

**** aesthetics, I want a good Android phone. I want Android because I want functionality, not something pretty to show off to people. I'm sick of hearing arguments about how the Hero looks nicer, "feels more expensive", whatever. Go buy an IPhone. I've been waiting for an Android phone without a ton of problems for a long time, and these are the first two in existence in the US. I want real comparisons. I'm still worried about battery life. I really hated the Hero in the beginning but lately (after 3 weeks use) the battery life has really started to shine. I'm getting through my 8 hour workday with half the life left instead of dying (although I am playing with it quite a bit less). Need more comparisons on this, camera, camcorder?, whatever else that I will care about in the future that has to do with how well the phone functions.

I just have a few questions to help me decide on one of the two.

Is anyone having trouble downloading apps from the Market? At the Sprint store, the Moment took forever to download, it had trouble starting the download. The Hero didn't have any problems

How long does it take to get a gps lock? The Hero was instant at the Sprint store, but the Moment took around 1 minute.

Can someone do a speed test over wifi? I am curious to see if it maxes out at close to 3800K download like the Hero. Over 3g, I was getting 1800K down and 250K up on the Hero. The Moment got 1400K down and 50K up. This was at the Sprint store with the two phones right next to each other.

Thanks

I've yet to see photos taken with the Moment camera online. None of the places that have given a review have posted any pics from it even though they do with pretty much EVERY other phone.

Hey here are some photos taken, non edited straight from the camera. Really harsh lighting, taken in direct sunlight at around 10am in Corpus Christi, TX.

The Squirrel looks all nice and friendly...I thought he was... He was really looking to pick a fight, ask me how I know
