Help hero vs moment?

I've had both phones and to me the Hero didn't feel good in my hands. I always felt like it would slip out of my hands when I am texting. Texting wasn't that accurate either compare to the Moment's onscreen keyboard. The Hero's screen didn't seem as responsive as the Moment. Even though the Hero can play Flash it was sluggish and not worth it.
The moment was everything I could hope for in a phone because it was FAST. Everything I did on the Hero I can tell it was way faster on the Moment. I rarely experience any lag or choppiness with the Moment. I can actually play games and feel good about it.
It would be nice to have the widgets available on the Hero on the Moment but I realized I never even use them it was just there for looks.
Once the Moment gets 2.0 it will be an amazing device.

I have loved the look of the Hero, but wanted to wait for the Moment, as it seemed to be the smarter choice. The Moment is BIG. Does not fit into a pocket... anyones' pocket! That thing is huge. Loved the display, very bright and colorful. The slideout keyboard was very slippery. Mine was very slick. I felt anothers that was fresh from Sprint store. It was tighter, but still not as tight as my 11-yr-olds rant, after a year.

The Moment is not that big, you are making it sound like a cinder block. It fits in my pockets just fine, even in the tight jeans I use to pick up the ladies. And I always keep it in a case so that adds to its size.

Unless these are what you wear

I can't see it not fitting in a pocket. Even then you have that utility belt, plenty of pouches there.

As far as the keyboard being slippery, again I just don't see it.

I in fact have those shorts and I've found a place to put my phone :D

@Flipper: With the Moment, I have slide my keyboard out & in to wake it up which seems awkward, then Home screen comes up, THEN the phone is locked message comes up with instructions to press the Menu key to get to the unlock dots.

All I do is slide my keyboard open and the phone is available. No lock screen. If I push end, I have to then push menu to unlock. But if I'm in a hurry, I just slide open the keyboard and the phone is active.

LOL! Wow. Anyway...yes, I do have small pockets, as I am a rather small female. Not really an issue a lot of time, but would like for it to fit in a smallish pocket when jogging or out at soccer field. Good to know about the keyboard though, in case I want to trade back. Maybe they gave me one that had been returned before? I also had a little bit of virtual keyboard lag, and could not get my yahoo mail on it, even after everything suggested in here.

Well after taking the picture, he charged down the tree at me, puffed up and making crazy chattering noises, he smacked into the phone, didn't bite or anything, just kinda bump checked it and my hand. I start walking away and he jumps out of the tree, going crazy jumping all around, he finally let up, but that was the craziest thing I've ever seen a squirrel do.

BTW here are some photos I took today of a flower, cliche and boring yes, but I find them awesome for a phone camera.

Love the pics from the Moment. At this point, anything that takes better pics than my BB Pearl, I'll be happy with. For me I was so die-hard on getting the Hero but after seeing many reviews, and reading this entire thread, I think I will check them both out, but I will probably go for the Moment. I don't need software candy, I need a good phone. I want a physical keyboard because I haven't gotten along with touch screens, and I've always loved Samsung phones. Your posts have been extremely informative and have been that gentle *nudge* that made me make up my mind.

Thank you. :D

Hey, glad I could help.

Now you just need to get a Moment!

Well I've been using my moment for a few days now and it's definitely the best phone i've ever owned. I have no bases for comparison between it an the hero as i haven't even touched a hero. I just knew i wanted a physical keyboard and a camera flash. Mega pixels weren't an issue for me as i'm stepping up from a 1.3 mp on my alltel LG wave.

Well the reason i wanted to post is I've seen quite a few comments about the 3 home screens that the moment offers. I'm not sure if anybody has addressed this on this thread (lots of posts on here), but anyway's I downloaded this app i saw in another thread called "panda home". This allows you to have up to 11 home screens. I only use 5 screens as i don't see a need for more than that so I'm not sure well it works with 11 screens. I just got this today, but it seems fine so far. It was a little weird at first cause it change my icons into aliens. But i finally got it the way i want it and it's working good. I will say it's definitely nicer having 5 screens versus 3. Well I hope this helps somebody's decision on later if the home screens thing was bothering them.

One thing I liked about the Hero that I can't stand on the Moment is the ability to move my emails into my folders. Makes no sense to have access to my folders, but I can't move emails to them, especially spam. And the black print on the white screen is so much nicer on the Hero as well. I like the Moment, but I can't be the only one that notices the greenish hue of the screen. I notice it more because I still use both phones.

You need to learn to use the gmail app and the gmail mail account features. I can do this. See the sticky post!

let's see. I know how to read. And no I don't have to learn how to use the gmail app. I don't want to funnel everything through gmail. I don't even want to use gmail in any way, shape or form. I'm very happy with my basic separation of my emails and receiving them the way they are. I like how I could have separate mail icons for each account that would show the number of new emails...ala...blackberry, windows mobile and hero.

I've done folders on my Palm and WinMobile phones for quite a while. This is just another notch in the wannabe smartphone department. Many things I love about Android and the Moment. But more and more little things keep popping up that make me second guess it as a business oriented device. The most glaring being battery life. Have 8 Moments in our company and every one has complained about battery life to the point we're going to ditch android and go to BB which I really don't want to do. And these people are basic phone and text with a little bit of email and a touch of web browsing. Far from anything close to "power users".

So I assume that you have read that there is not a problem with the battery life? But rather, the accuracy of the battery meter? If yes, great. If not, check it out, that thing lasts a looooooong time. It's just the meter that has issues. And there have been reports that an update/fix for the meter is coming before the 2.0/2.1 updated OS.;)

I assume you've read through that entire battery thread where many say it goes beyond an inaccurate battery meter and not everyone has their phone last a looooooong time. It's quite sporadic. I know I've had a few instances of going beyond yellow rather quickly and into the red. Especially when i'm making a point to try and stay away from surfing and doing anything I think will speed up the drain.

And people have 30 days to make a decision about keeping a phone. In cases where it'd a decision for a company, it's a bit of a big deal. Reports, rumors and whisper down the lane do nothing to extend that 30 day window. So if a quick fix is coming, they better get public with it real quick. ;) back at ya

It's also one thing for the people that frequent forums to have an understanding of the issue and be willing to ride out some issues while waiting for the fix. The general masses that would never step near a forum or even know they exist don't really have that kind of patience. They just know their phone has them tethered to a power cable and it inhibits their ability to conduct business.

I'm getting the feeling that I should change my name:confused:
What is going on with yours? Do you have terrible battery life? Or is it just an issue with the battery meter?

Since you know that there are reports of variance in the battery life, and you have read enough to know the difference, and you have not returned your due to a faulty battery, I can only assume that your issue is the battery meter. And you know this. And you still post as if it isn't and you know better? I'm confused.

And btw, not to knock the Moment, or any other 1st generation phones, but if a company decides to go with a brand new 1st generation phone, and expects it to function perfectly before receiving any updates... that company is not doing well in the decision making area and will be gone very soon. :o

Meaning that your scenario could not apply to a (successful) company, but rather a few individuals within it that chose independently for themselves. And they being the 'General masses' were either completely il-informed about what they were purchasing, completely ignorant to what they were purchasing, or completely unrealistic about what they were purchasing. 1st gen is 1st gen. There's going to be issues no matter how basic the technology is.

But back to you. You have demonstrated that you know the difference with the battery meter and a bad battery... and you have not mentioned anything about swapping it out... so your issue is the battery meter right?

1st moment, 3rd battery. Assuming others who have posted bad battery life outside of the meter issue, I am not alone. If I am not alone, why would I assume that my Moment is the lone faulty one and a new one would solve the problem?

And I'm sorry, but when was it deemed appropriate to up the sarcastic tone and take shots at one's job, company or what not? Or (if I too can take it personal) does the a-hole behavior extend outside of your attempts at internet bravado?

Deductive reasoning would drive the assumption. If you are on a 3rd battery, and the problem has not been resolved, and not everyone is experiencing the problem but instead just quite sporadicly, and you know that it's not an issue with the meter... then either you've had three bad batteries, or the phone is the culprit. Or it could be an app.

And for the record, I didn't intend to take a shot at anyone's job. I just posted a quite reasonable assessment of business practices, more specifically pertaining to the practice of businesses assessing their technological choices before diving into something ignorantly. It would be bad business to do otherwise, and as stated, my assumption was that the aforementioned business was not the culprit of bad decision making, but rather, the choices of workers within that business (=not necessarily bad decision making). No intentional a-hole behavior here, just pointing out that a rational business would not make that sort of decision. The only rational people to make the kind of decision to pick up a 1st gen device before software updates, are basically the ones that expect there to be inherent glitches.

And I don't know where the personal stuff is coming from? The wink was pertaining to the idea of 'Yay! A fix is coming.' Had I somehow known that you had a full understanding of the situation at hand (which I obviously couldn't have based on my previous analysis of the origins of you question [last post 2nd paragraph]) then I could see how you could have taken it in as sarcastic tone. But I simply do not know what you know, sorry for the misunderstanding. Anyways, on the plus side, the clarification has helped immensely in us working towards a solution to your problem. It seems that it's either your phone, or an app, that is causing your 'beyond-the-meter' battery shortcoming.

Too late to deal with drawn out paragraphs about a battery especially in a thread that makes it off topic. And it's easy to define intentions after the fact. You took a shot. No need to try and come back to the high road with a run on explanation.
In general, you can go to the battery thread and see the glass as half full, others, including myself can see it as half empty.

Getting back on topic, the point of my post was that Android's email experience is a bit lackluster unless you choose to embrace gmail while the Hero's Sensed up version gives more options that are similar to what one would expect from a real smartphone.

So in a Hero vs Moment thread, besides all the fluff and bloat Sense adds, HTC added some very thoughtful touches that are unfortunately absent on vanilla android but present in many other smartphones. So if one is coming from another smartphone and used to a certain level of functionality, Sense might make more sense if they are comfortable with an onscreen keyboard.

What exactly was your problem with the battery?

I have done virtually no tweaking with my battery, I just don't run a boatload of crappy apps. I can run my phone virtually all day with the meter showing 15%.

Try using the phone until it gets to 5%, maybe you'll see that the battery has much better life than the meter shows.

I'd like to know the definition of "boatload" and "crappy" lol.

I barely get over 6 hours with my battery, it's very frustrating. That with no calls, maybe 5 or 6 texts and the occasional browsing for a few minutes. I have a few apps installed, but besides openhome they're mostly games, maybe a few widgets for news and such. I guess if my batter is equal to all the other moment batteries out there and my slight app addiction is what's killing me I can accept that, but I'd really like to know if I've got a sub-par battery or other defective hardware.
