Help HOW TO: Installing Froyo 2.2

Status 7 Error
finally figured it out. when u see this error u'll see the error is searching for the bloatware that u removed.
So I installed 3 bloatwares I removed back then
removing bloatware became pain in the ass.

updating now

EDIT: FROYO!

What are the chances that this is the 100% official update Verizon will be pushing in a couple weeks?

chances are verizon leaked this on purpose since they are still having a nightmare with the first DROID 2.2 patch, this way most of the users can patch themselves and forums like this one can walk everyone through troubleshooting and what not while at the same time posting any errors or issues and verizon can then fix those before the actual release.

@bobomatic mines been stuck at the moto logo for the past 20min & i'm freaking out :'(
any suggestions? please help!!

sorry reply took so long, been out all day. so im not sure if you still need help but. i had to load the sbf file using RSD. i'll pm you the file. then head to page four (of this thread) look for a user named In2uitiv. he was kind enough to put up a step by step. the only thing i have to add is. when you do the batt pull to boot into recovery mode. you have to have all the buttons pushed and THEN insert the batt.. good luck

anyone install the update after doing a factory reset? after all the crap i had to do to get the phone to boot. after i did the *228 to activate the phone, it activated it to some random number so i had to call Verizon and get that right. and now its late, im tired. if i try again and it dont work, who knows what i might do..lol

EDIT: Mother F-ER!!! anyone wanna guess what happened? i dont get it. a factory phone. only thing i had was launcher pro, and beautiful widgets. and no root..WTF? on the plus side me and RSD are becoming good friends.

Got an exclamation sign over a droid when booting(long wait) then it comes up with the choices but on the bottom it show
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command
I selected the apply sdcard.update.zip it shows a few options but it's a lot of dots going from left to right, then it pauses I click ok it goes and I done this quite a few times before it said installation complete..
Did anyone have the same thing happen to them?

Another thing it my text messages are not in order of last receive...

Just wanted to say that I followed these instructions (with the addition of the MDW ones) and it worked perfectly...Froyo 2.2 rooted on my DX. Love the new tweaks and upgrades. Kept all my apps, just uninstalled Launcherpro and ADW before then reinstalled and restored by backups. All data intact. Fantastic. :)

do you have a link for the "MDW ones"?

For those of you getting errors while attempting to update, have a look at your zip file.

The first time I downloaded the zip file, it was only 51mb. Luckily I thought that was peculiar, so I went and double checked, sure enough, it's 67mb. So something funky happened when I downloaded. Make sure you got the full file!

Edit: Froyo. :) No issues updating, took maybe ~5 minutes.

Please Help Urgently! Tried to update with leak
please someone help!
i had a stock droid x and here is what happened:
1. installed astro file manager
2. used it to install and use universalandroot
3. downloaded and followed instructions for leak from here

now when it rebooted all i see is the Motorolla logo!!!!!!!!! however, it seems as though the actual phone is running behind the logo because i heard as if the lockscreen popped up, and when i use the same motion to unlock the screen, i can feel the haptic feedback....

I'm in the same boat as you. I've tried SBF without root, with root.. a straight upgrade from my normal 2.1 install.. ROM manager.. no matter what instructions I follow to get 2.2 on my phone it will load normally ONCE, and as soon as I reboot I get the M logo with my phone loading up normally behind it. I wish someone had an answer as to how this is even possible

I had the M logo on my first reboot. This is how I fixed mine: Due to sounds my phone was making while the M logo was on, it seemed to me that the phone was actually booting just fine into Android, it just wasn't changing the display away from the M logo for some reason. I let it "boot" since it would make a beep noise because of being connected to USB, that's how I knew it was done. Then I held the power button down for like 30 seconds. The phone vibrated and stuff and turned off. When I pressed the power button again, the phone was working perfectly with Froyo ever since.

Forgive my newbness - I keep searching for this answer but it's still unclear. Do you do this update from a computer or directly on the phone?

Download the update.zip to your phone SDCARD root. Then follow the instructions.

That's where I'm lost. I don't see "SDCARD" anywhere in my file tree when I open the "Files" program. And I don't see that option when I try to move or copy/paste a file. What am I missing?

PS Also, when I attach the DX to my PC, I only see one storage device "DROIDX". I don't see "SDCARD" there either.
