Help HOW TO: Installing Froyo 2.2

I read somewhere that if you have NEVER rooted before doing the 2.2 update, you can't root your phone after 2.2 update...is this true?

I haven't rooted, but want to so I don't know if I should root then update, or if it doesn't matter. I'm new to rooting (unlocked my old WinMo Omnia...) so I don't know much about the terminology...(sbf, atk, etc...)

I want to make sure I can go to "out-of-the-box" 2.1 Droid X before doing anything.

Have the update file on my phone...just waiting for some answers :)

So we still don't know if this is a "Beta" version or the actual release that will be coming to us via OTA?

Yep, I'm downloading it too. I think that when I get back to stock 2.1, I will STAY THERE until the OFFICIAL update is pushed out.
i just went though the process, and i got the droid eye loop. wtf?
think i gotta do a factory reset, going thourgh RSD again so will see.
factory wipe worked

how did you get to reload the update? im stuck on the moto logo, im downloading what i hope is the right sbf file, its downloading pretty slow. RDS does see my phone (at least i got that going) i'm on the second floor, so that wont do it. but luckily i'm only six blocks from the HWY..

LOL watch out for the bus

Boot launcher: power button ,volume down (nearest top) ,home button launches boot deal.
then do the sbf thing. take 10 minutes then boot its self just wait it out.

This gives a squeaky clean phone new but the stickers.
When the phone boots first time I had the automatic *228 thing but I didn't sign into google at that time, not that it make a diffrence I guess.
Then do the original update file to get 2.2 .

In the past I had rooted then unrooted I guess there was something causing a hangup for the update

Hope this helps

I guess since the official update isnt out were not gonna know if it'll let us update to the official update once it comes out if we have this huh?

So far so good. The download and installation was a breeze. The reboot is taking a while but I guess thats normal. Right now I am on my home screen but things like my picture and one touch dialing pictures are not there yet. Should I wait a little longer or do a battery pull? Thanks

Has anyone figured out why the frozen moto logo is occurring? May be holding me back at this point.

I blaming it and past rooting efforts, Even if you return all the programs i think.
I had rooted with adb method and also easy root method maybe their somthing from those methods left behind???

So I have a completely stock never rooted DX, it should be no prob?

Okay I just ran this and everything went smooth as can be. I was rooted and using LPP and din't have to change anything. I ran Quadrant and benchmark gave me 1347, loving froyo so far. First boot was a little longer than normal so just be patient.

Do those asking about recovery mode once the android guy shows on the screen with the caution indicator hit the search button. It's self explanatory from there.
