Help HOW TO: Installing Froyo 2.2

Just installed the upgrade, no problems at all, wiping the sweat from my brow. It is this adrenaline rush that gets people addicted to roms.

Greetings all

And thanks to the OP for sharing!

I held off rooting to wait for the OTA..but..now..this being available...

thoughts;
Should I root first...then run Froyo..so I can have root post 2.2

Or

Just go to 2.2 and as I have been fine and happy without root thus far, wait for root to be recreated solved post 2.2?

Thank you for any feedback

just flash it stock don't root since there are extra steps if u want to keep root and go 2.2

Depends on if you want to be rooted or not. I really like being rooted, so I kept it all the same. It's fairly simple to do, so I figure you might as well do it!

Any kind of volume fix anyone notice?

also off droid life.....I will say right up front that this is more than likely not the final version and if you update to this version, getting back to stock 2.1 is not going to be easy.

That was significantly faster than any update I've ever done with any other phone (former BB user). Total time was under 10 minutes; I spent it playing with my son, so I'm not sure of the real time but boy did it go quickly.

I like what I am seeing so far. Everything is snappy. The only thing I can't figure out is my WiFi signal strength icon. I am sitting 3 feet from a Netgear WNDR3700; Wifi Analyzer shows 45dB signal strength and the needle on the meter is as far right as it can go, but the status bar icon only shows 2 blips. Weird.

Will explore and report more...

My only problem I have is that my phone still does not ring when I get a phone call. It rings for all other notifications. I read that microsoft is aware of this problem and it was going to be fixed with Froyo, but it did not fix it for my phone.
Microsoft? What? LOL

Would anyone care to post precise instructions on how to "SBF" the phone back to 2.1? Also a brief explanation of what it is exactly would be nice.

Thanks!

It's a process that will flash the phone back to stock using RSD Lite. I just did it right now as I can't get past the moto logo issue =\

You will need RSD Lite and the patch: http://www.wikifilez.com/Root%20Files/MotoDroidX/RSDLite-4.7+patch.zip

The SBF file and USB drivers: PM me for link

Install RSD Lite, the patch (paste the .ini file in the program directory), and the appropriate USB drivers.

Power off your phone (you might have to do a battery pull)

Press camera, up volume key and power to boot the phone into 'bootloader mode'

Connect phone to PC and start RSD Lite

Select your phone and browse for the .SBF file, hit start. The flash process will begin taking a few minutes to complete. You might see "execution 100%, results FAIL" after the end of the process....I found this to be no issue at all.

Your phone will reboot, but in a boot loop (constantly seeing the red eye)

Power off the phone (battery pull) and press home and power to boot into recovery mode

You will see a little droid and exclamation in a triangle, press search

Use the volume keys and select the option to wipe cache, then select the option to wipe date/factory restart

Reboot phone and it will be back to the original state when you first got the phone

I downloaded it using my phone. Moved the file to the root directory using Astro. Restarted in recovery mode, and installed. Worked great and it didn't change any of my previous settings or wallpaper on my phone. I may do a factory reset anyway just because these OTA's usually have bugs that won't go away unless you start fresh.
How did you move it once it was in astro. From sd card to root. I see both files, I touch and hold the update and choose to move, but it doesn't ask me where do i want to move it to. Can someone please help us.

Dude. Long press and press edit> copy. Then get to the main part of the sd card and look at the bar at the top and hit edit> paste. It will put it in the main part then follow the rest of the instructions. Don't put it in the root folder or anything.

I just got this working first time and everything is running very smoothly. The browser is very fast and flash is amazing!!!

Anyone figure out how to get the text messaging back to most recent being on the top and not in alphabetical order, like how the original software came?

I put this on the SD card root, and when I boot up holding the homescreen, all I get is a picture of the droid bot with a ! in a triangle. Anybody know why this is?

This is one of the most commonly asked questions....

"Hit the search button when you get that screen. The magnifying glass, rightmost one. It'll bring you in after that."

It tooke me awhile and some trial and error but I finally got everything working minus my revolution and OC with froyo no biggy im sure they will come back soon.

Steps That Worked:

From 2.1 Root
-Titanium to back up all apps and data
-Used RSD lite 4.7+Patch to restore
-Recovery, wiped data and cache
-Installed Universal Androot
-Moved su to /system/xbin
-Recover, ran update.zip
-Success Rooted Droid X with Froyo :)

These steps seemed a little much to me however when I just tried to apply the update I got an error for a missing apk then after fixing that I got a boot loop. Now however i get Quadrant of 2000+ and linpack of 14.5.
