Help HOW TO: Installing Froyo 2.2

Ok.... I just CANNOT get Froyo on my X. I got stuck at the MOTO screen the first time, so I flashed the device using the SBF file. After that, EVERYTHING was stock. All I did was activate the phone and connect my Google account. I then tried the update again, and got stuck at the MOTO screen AGAIN.

Any ideas?

i've tried everything, but it still wont update!
here is the message i get:

E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

-- Install from sdcard...
.Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

I tried downloading astro and everything.
the update.zip is in my sd card, not in any folders.
i have a macbook, not a pc.
HELP PLEASE!

need some help here....i have 2.2 running on my x but not really sure if all is well. i had koush's cr so i waited until he posted the update to rom manager and installed that way. 2.2 loaded ok but now whenever i reboot it gets stuck on the moto screen and i have to do a batt pull and then it will boot. i lost root even though it was supposed to be prerooted. My quadrant score is awful too, im getting 1250-1275 everytime and on 2.1 i was getting that anyway. i also don't know if flash is working right. farmville will not load (yes i know im awful for playing that) and says my device is not supported.....

ideas anyone?

***update: apparently i am rooted but only for some apps? ad free and drocap work but i can't give su permission to titanium backup?

***update 2: i am a moron...i didnt have busybox installed and thats why ti didn't work...i should really check stuff before i freak out....still the flash and benchmark scores bother me

Doing the SBF install using a 32 bit OS solved this problem for me.

I noticed every time I tried to load the SBF using Windows 7 x64 it would fail during the last steps with the bootloader. The phone would restart and appear to have been restored, but every time I tried to load 2.2 it would boot fine once, and then every other reboot would only show the M logo, even though I could hear the phone loading in the background.

I decided to do the SBF using a Windows 7 x32 virtual machine (using VMWare), and this time the recovery passed. I loaded the new stock 2.1, logged in to my account to download Root Explorer, rooted using the 1-click method (still using the x32 virtual machine), used Root Explorer to move su from /bin to /xbin, restarted the phone in recovery mode and ran the update.zip to 2.2

The first reboot hung at the M longer than I liked, so I decided to just pull the battery, reboot into recovery and wipe data/cache (something I had considered doing right after the update anyway).

I have now rebooted the phone over 10 times, signed in to all my accounts, downloaded all my apps, and have yet to see a single problem other than some of the Motorola Widgets looking a little bigger and fuzzier as others have mentioned (I noticed it the most with the date and time and quick contacts).

I hope this solves some problems, and I really hope this ends the nightmare of a time I had all of yesterday.

I had the M logo on my first reboot. This is how I fixed mine: Due to sounds my phone was making while the M logo was on, it seemed to me that the phone was actually booting just fine into Android, it just wasn't changing the display away from the M logo for some reason. I let it "boot" since it would make a beep noise because of being connected to USB, that's how I knew it was done. Then I held the power button down for like 30 seconds. The phone vibrated and stuff and turned off. When I pressed the power button again, the phone was working perfectly with Froyo ever since.

has this worked for any other of us MOTO LOGO people?

Just switched from trying to install froyo from mac to pc.
It only works when you move the file from pc to droid x!
Lesson learned

Holding the Power button for 30 seconds did nothing on my phone. I could feel the vibrate of the silence/airplane mode/reboot choice coming up, but no matter how long I held the power the phone didn't reboot. I had to push the area of the screen I knew the reboot choice was, and then it would reboot right back to the giant M.

So far the only fix for me was using 32 bit Windows (using the drivers that came with the SBF file) to do the SBF recovery, and then following the instructions on the first page here.

New update on the M logo bug. When I was using a 32 bit machine to do the SBF I also reformatted my sd card. After copying all the files back to the card the M logo bug came back. I took the memory card out, phone booted fine. I tried to load the memory card in a USB sd card adapter and Windows told me the card wasn't formatted. I'm wondering if it was the card all along (either files on it or the card itself)

that is interesting. but i think the format is different for the X and a PC, you could reformat to work on your PC, and then put in your X and see what happens. have you tried to upgrade and then pull the SD card to see if the phone will boot? i might try this later.

I tired parrel's method via 32-bit VM to reflash back to stock, I've applied the update and still get the Moto logo bug. =\

I removed the SD card and still get the Moto logo bug.

I'm going to revert back to 2.1 and just wait for the official OTA. -_-

After much difficulty I am now installing succesfully. Initially I had issues every time I would start install, it would fail at Verifying current system. I had rooted and removed CityID and Cardock unintentionally and It would fail everytime. But I found the .apk's and now I should be golden! will update if all goes succesfully.

UPDATE! Finished and running smoothly so far! Took just a few minutes once I worked out the APK issues.

i just start it! lets see what goin on,now its install but i don get the froyo dock, and the lock screen volume and lock black? no color? its this right?

Alright I have a question for everyone, I got 2.2 to work and everything but lost root, in your opinions, is it better to just wait for someone to crack root on 2.2, or try flashing sbf back to original and start whole process over again?

I have been messing with sbf flash and cant get it to work so it makes me worried about even continuing to try, considering 2.2 is up and running fine, just minus the root access.
