Root [How To] Return To Gingerbread And S-on

Will this work if the phone isn't rooted? I updated it when prompted for the update. So many problems since the update, making the phone almost unusable. Bluetooth doesn't stay connected. Constantly getting low on application space errors, even after moving all apps possible to SD card, deleting 5 other apps, deleting text messages. Every day I have to delete data from the 1 or 2 apps I can actually use in order to send/receive email. And I have a ton of space available on the phone and SD card. Before the update I had this problem occasionally, now it's daily, I can't use any apps.

Know if there is anyway for me to downgrade it?

No but you should definitely try a factory reset if you haven't yet. Often clears up many issues associated with an OTA update. Then again, this particular update has been especially troubling to some. Still worth a try though.

My company wants to pay me for using my personal smartphone, but they won't allow rooted phones, so I had to unroot mine.

Just finished using this method, and it worked flawlessly.
Completely back to stock now, with S-On.

Thank you!

After setting up company email on my phone, and now knowing what is involved to do so, I can't imagine what difference it would make whether I'm rooted or not, or how they would even ever know.

And I am missing Gingerbread a lot at this point.

Is there any reason I couldn't re-root my phone at this point?

Edit:
I didn't wait for an answer. I tried it and it worked! YAY!!!

haha, yeah you can go back and forth as long as you root and flash a GB rom. That way you can get back to Froyo with the downgrade method. This is why I always like to flash my way forward instead of OTA's or RUU's. It keeps open the option of going backward the easy way if need be for some reason.

I agree.
And as old as the Incredible is now, I doubt there will be anymore OTA's anyway. I will continue to run OMGB and be a happy camper, until my contract is up again (a year and a half from now), at which point the newer phones are probably so awesome I won't have any desire to root and/or rom. :-)

ISSUES NO IMAGE FOUND: Hey guys, I have a S-off showing on HBOOT. Previously rooted phone using unrevoked3. HTC Screen has become unresponsive and glitchy. I need to return the phone to get it replaced. How do I change this setting.

Wrong thread. This file/method is for an HTC Incredible. Your Evo certainly uses a similar method. Check the Evo forum for your solution.

I just did this and everything went fine in hboot but when I clicked on reboot system it is stuck in bootloop. Please help! I was running gingerbread that I flashed, not OTA

We are in a strange position here because I just updated this thread as of this writing. The links are now for stock Gingerbread. However, we can still fix your phone. Need to know a few things. Can you pull the battery and still get to hboot? If so, are you still s-off or not? What is your final desire here, get rid of root for good? Do you care if you end up on Froyo or Gingerbread in the end?

I can still get to hboot (0.92) and says s-off. I don't care where it ends up as long as its stock since I need to sell the phone.

I re-flashed my old rom (stock plus GB) and it starts but has some force close errors and I can't wipe any data or programs....?

My advice copied from your other thread:

The downgrade thread has now been updated with all the new links for Gingerbread. The s-on file is also linked there. Flash it in Clockwork since it sounds like that is still working for you. Then apply one of the two methods listed in that thread to get yourself on the new Gingerbread. That process will also unroot you and clear all your personal things off the phone. Sorry I didn't get the thread updated sooner but I just got my hands on the new RUU a day or two ago.

Will also add that when you follow the link for Unrevoked Forever (that link/page contains the s-on file you can download, gotta scroll down a ways), it says to rename to update.zip. You can ignore that and leave it named whatever it's called when you download it. Just place it on the card and flash it like a rom in Clockwork...Install zip from sd card, Choose zip from sd card, navigate to the s-on zip and flash it. No need to wipe anything for the s-on flash.

So I should flash the s-on? I just don't want to brick the phone completely from loosing root access if this doesn't work. Could you give me specific links to the steps you recommended? have been working on this for hours today flashing all sorts of stuff.

If you want a completely stock phone then you would need to flash s-on. Personally, it's HIGHLY unlikely that whoever buys the phone will know the difference so if it were me, I'd leave it s-off because that leaves you a few aces in the hole if you have problems returning to stock. While I consider it doubtful that you'll have major issues, I'm just sayin...

So anyway, go back to the OP of this thread. If you want to do the s-on thing, I link to the necessary page in the second paragraph or so. If not, remove ANY AND ALL PB31IMG files you might have on your card at this time and either use the new one I have linked now (Gingerbread) or use the RUU method I layed out as an extra option. Both methods do the same thing which is to unroot (except s-on) and wipe the phone back to stock, which now happens to be Gingerbread for most users.

Cool, I'll leave s-off then and try this again. Thanks a lot and Happy Thanksgiving! I'll post back after I give this a try.

I ran your program successfully and my data is still on the phone and a bunch of force close errors pop up :(

Interesting. We are talking about an original Droid Incredible here right?

When in hboot, when you go to recovery, is it the stock recovery now or still Clockwork mod? Also, what Android version and radio does it say you're on at Settings > about phone?

Yep, it's an original incredible. I had "Stock Plus" Rom 2.3.4 with radio 2.15.10.07.07.

I have flashed all sorts of things today though including files in this op earlier. I just ran your program again but will check on recovery.

Here is hboot

Here is when phone starts (multiple force close that dont go away along with widget locker app that I had installed. Also has weird triangle by signal strength...maybe roaming?)

I tried to get a pic and now it's bootlooping after clicking force close a bunch of times
