Root [HOW TO]: Root, Install a Custom ROM, Fix the Market, and Add Flash

Okay, yes, I just read a bit more carefully ... you are right - I only had the supplement! Thx.
I've now downloaded the 83+Mb gtab.VEGAn.1.00.beta5.1.user.final.zip
Is that the correct one? If so, do I need to later load the supplement?

ALSO ... regarding the warning about FIRMWARE ENDS IN 3991 OR HIGHER, how do I check what firmware I am using? Thanks again!

That's the one. :D Yup, install the supplement after that. Make sure you back everything up on your computer so you have those files handy because you would probably want to repartition your SD card now after you install your ROM and supplement.

If you got CM loaded, I don't think you have to worry about being on 3991.

Glad to hear it & thankful for your help. I'll be heading to bed now, but one last question ... since I've backed up w/ CWM, can I restore what I have now later?

Thank you again so very much, I appreciate your help!

Yes, but remember if you repartition after you did a backup you'll lose it ifyou don't save your back up file on your computer.

BTW, if you can root the gtab you can totally root your Droid X. If you root your Droid X, you can install Wireless Tethering and you can tether your droid X to your gtab. DUN is not supported by any of the gtab ROMS that I know of so Wireless tethering is our only option.

I tether from my Droid 1 all the time with the gtab.

That's the problem - I don't think I'm rooted yet. I followed Solid's instructions in post #1 of this thread but something does not appear to have worked properly. I installed CWM and VEGAn Tab and used CWM to wipe cache and install the VEGAn ROM (which when I boot up it says VEGAn) but Titanium Backup doesn't work - it says my tablet is not rooted. It told me I needed Busybox so I followed the link to install it and it downloaded Busybox but at the end it said it could not install it because my tablet was not rooted. What could be the issue? I followed his instructions step by step.

12. your new ROM should now install, it will root your tablet in the process. when it is finished, return to the main menu and select "reboot now". you will know it has worked as soon as it reboots because your bootscreen/homescreen will be different and you will now have a SuperUser icon in your app drawer.

Ok, I'm still stuck at step #12 - I've installed the VEGAn Tab ROM but evidently my tablet is still not rooted. How can that be? Should I attempt to reinstall the ROM?

Hi Chknhwk

I saw your thread at the support section. And it appears you only loaded the supplemental file 5.1.1. MarkinMI also did the same thing. Go to the Vegan 5.1 thread and scroll all the way down on the first post. You'll see a download link for Vegan 5.1. Vegan 5.1 is the base rom and Vegan 5.1.1 is a supplemental to the base rom.

I believe Vegan 5.1 is a 83 mb file. Load that one up first then load 5.1.1. I would wipe data and cache again before loading up 5.1.

Good luck!

I just joined today because I am getting a Viewsonic G Tablet. It should arrive today. I assume I will play with it a couple of days and then try to install the custom rom and VEGAn-Tab as directed. I hope it is as easy as most of you are indicating.

Anyway, great forum and loads of information, thanks.

Downloading the 5.1 build now. Once it is done downloading do I just boot into recovery mode and load from the download folder and reload the 5.1.1 supplement? Do I need to do any backups first? Thanks for all the help, I'm really not all that computer savvy...

I wouldn't make a backup because you'll be backing up the rom where you loaded 5.1.1 by mistake. I'm not sure if that'll cause any problems. I would do a wipe data factory reset and wipe cache then load 5.1 then load the 5.1.1 supplement.

That did the trick! Thank you very much! Now to take a look at what this root did for me, maybe try another rom and then look at rooting my Droid X! :D:D

Well I got the Clock Work and Vegantab installed just fine. But I cannot get flash to work like on the video.

I downloaded Flash Player from the link. Then I downloaded astro manager. When I try to open the flash player, I get a message that says "complete action using" and my options are "file editor" or "HTML viewer."

I'm stuck, no flash player yet,

But the other parts installed so easy, thanks for the links.

Try this one. Looks like VS updated their site and they updated their link with the newest flash apk.

http://www.freewarelovers.com/hotlinkmenot/temp/29a3ba/1300520051_Adobe_Flash_Player_10.2.156.12.apk

Fyi- Astro only gave you those two options because the file linked on the first post is a txt file. Not sure why that changed. It was an apk before.

That worked! Thank you so much. Only problem now that it does all these great things, I showed it to my wife. She's trying to take it away from me.

Seriously, I was scared to attempt this. You guys made it painless.

Hi,
I am a beginner with Android device.
This forum helped me alot in terms of reading reviews of different ROMs and etc.

I have very basic question, regarding about G- Sensor.
Thanks to SolidOrange and other users, I successfully rooted to VEGAN 5.1.
One problem i came across is that my G-sensor is not working.
I double checked whether auto rotate screen was checked and it is. funny thing is that auto rotate do work when i am browing internet or at set up. It just doesn't work when i am in home screen.

any ideas? your reply will be GREAT HELP! thanks

Go into settings>display> then check auto-rotate.
If you did that already, do you have custom launcher like ADW, ADW EX or Launcher pro installed? They are separate apps found in the market. Two of them have free versions. If you want, download one of those home replacements and you can set the home screen to auto rotate too. I'm not sure if the launcher that came with Vegan has that setting because I don't use the stock launcher.
