Root [HOW-TO] Simplified Root + Recovery + Custom ROM

It is not mounted. You can remove it. But you can always check in mounts and storage menu and unmount it if nessery.
 
Thanks again to Nijel again for letting me know that I could take the SD card out and put the Cynogenmod 7 in a spot that was easier to find.--put everything into the downloads folder. Then continuing following the directions from Whyzor on the first page and used Clockworkmod to new ROM, installed gapps and Green Machine Theme. The zip file for Optimus V windows drivers gave an error message so I skipped that and then rebooted. It went right to the Green Android and booted up in less than two minutes. Thanks to Whyzor for simple instructions!!!
 
The Optimus V drivers are for installation on your PC, not the phone.. Once you install IHO, you will those installed on your PC to be able mount the USB mass storage.
 
Sorry I'm such a noob,i don'thave a PC so I've been doing alot of reading and getting more confused by the minute. I am rooted, i downloaded titanium backup free,androfile manager, busybox, flash-image.apk,. I want to do Whyzor's guide for recovery, rom, green machine. Well while reading about ti backup i uninstalled the bloatware from my phone. The bloats gone but no extra space. Any help would greatly be appreciated! I guess I'll stop reading and just follow Whyzor's guide.

Whyzor's guide is where i started at and as i got more comfy with tinkering with my phone i went on trying other roms following the same steps and now have tried several different roms and haven't bricked my phone yet but i tend to read and reread everything before deciding to try something new. If you follow the guide to the letter you shouldn't have any trouble. main thing is always keep a backup of your original rom at all times just incase.

PS Sticky: Do not Factory Reset your Rooted Phone lol
 
I tried to install the Cyanogenmod 7 on my Wife's Optimus V tonight. Everything went great...but. When I finished all of the steps and rebooted it worked just like last night. The android came up and backed u and flashed for a minute or two and then the phone came up. I then got a Google message asking if I wanted to sync now or later. I typed in my Wife's gmail account and password and then realized that I wanted to follow the prompt and leave that screen and set up the Wifi again first. When I hit the cancel button on Google's message, the problems began. I have shut off the phone and restarted it by taking out the battery. The IHO screen starts and the android backs up for a few minutes, but does not make the flash on the screen. He stops after a while. I am able to go to Clockworkmod by taking out the battery again, but I cannot shut the phone down with the off button on top.

When the screen powers up, the android backs up and begins to open its jacket so that I can just barely (no pun intended), see the words "before flashing". Then it does the same thing over again and again but never gets as far--just backs up and stops with arms at its side.

Is this an instance where I just need to keep rebooting by taking out the battery, putting it back in and going to CWM and rebooting?

I read where Google may be sending messages out to get people to do something that prevents rooting. Does this sync message have anything to do with that?

What is the best next step?

I did not Factory reset the phone. (Have seen way too many caution posts to do that.) I did a restore to the original rom while in CWM and redid the steps listed on page one. It goes to the android backing up and flashing the screen, (just as desired) and boots up. My problem happens on the screen after entering the account information for the current Google account. It asks if Google can gather information--not sure exactly, but there are two check boxes at the bottom of the screen. When I select next, it tells me that the android something or other (sorry about the vagueness here) is not working and has a button that says "Force Stop". It is the only button to push at that point and the buttons on the bottom of the phone do not do anything. When I push "Force Stop" I go back to the screen with the android backing up and stopping and backing up and stopping, etc. I have restored, flashed, wiped, formatted and re-installed according to the directions but still keep getting held up at the Google screens after reboot. The screen freezes after a few times of the animation of the android backing up and I can only shut down the phone from that point by taking out the battery again. From there I can go into CWM but on reboot the phone will only go to the android backing up and stopping a few times until it freezes again. Just like "rinse and repeat" I have been pulling the battery and going back to CWM and restoring, flashing the recovery, etc, etc. with the same results.

Should I be rebooting a few times before getting to the Google screens?
 
My tutorial on how to install a flash_image, recovery, and the ROM and Gapps just happens to be in that thread (It started out as a response to a members question and just kind of turned into what it is now from updating the info in it). Look at the instructions. This will work

Disconnect USB cable from PC. Make sure phone is fully charged. After you have the .apk moved to the Root of the sd card (bottom of the list of file folders, but not in any folder) then install it. If you try to install it from the a folder it will not work right after it installs the apk in the app drawer.
Then make sure you use the stock uSD card if you have it still. It didn't work with my 8GB card, but did with the stock 2GB card. Sometimes the exploit is a little picky about the sd card.

Open app drawer an run exploit. If after 12 min. it doesn't reboot on it's own, pull battery and try again. It might take 10-12 tries. It only took me 5 tries, but my phone started out as a 2.2.1 OS with a Novatek screen

I give up. I followed your instructions to a T and I have no luck with Gingerbreak. I probably tried over 50 times now over the course of 2 weeks.

  1. Stock SD Card (formatted on phone AND on PC)
  2. Not connected to PC
  3. USB Debugging enabled
  4. .apk installed / uninstalled numerous times.
  5. Battery pulled for 15 minutes every time.
Everytime I run Gingerbreak, it loads for about 30-60 seconds and then gives me the error screen. I will make a video of my process and post this later.

Should I try updating with the new Security update and trying the newer root exploit?

i am very confused. I copied the backside rom onto the sd card, but not sure which gapps to download? I am confused. I want to make sure I will not brick. Also, i installed the flash recovery and everything, is it safe to turn the phone off and back on? Or wait until installing the rom?
 
You will find the 20110828 Gapps in the CM-7 section just under the CM-9 section. Leave them zipped as well.
 
I'll try to make this short, slow typing with fatfinger.I followed. Guide to the letter got to step10.booted,got blue screen, had to. Pull battery go back to cwm recovery, backed everything up did all steps again got bluescreen,tried forhours.took phone to local computer. Guy cost me $40.00.got it back stoc..k,is there a fix for bluescreen? I rooted phone again and afraid to brick again! !! He told me I got a bad download.
please help!!! THANK YOU.also I read a post, said don't put file in lost.dir file,but in cwm recovery that file was on there.cwm said can't find files operation aborted. If I put files on lost.dir it might have worked!?
 
:confused:THANKS guys for replies,I'm working I'll try to post later.I did see something about md5 but idon't remember what it said. Ever hear about the bluescreen?I'll read somemore,maybe try this again. I HATE THIS LITTLE KEYBOARD!!!!
 
Bluescreen is the bootloader screen. You got it most likely b/c there was nothing else to boot(rom or recovery).
 
Thanks for the help guys. I updated to ZV9 and followed the instructions in the "ZV9 for technically challenged" thread and it worked like a charm.
 
So I'm coming back from the MT, we only really have one custom recovery (cwm) and that's 5.0.2.6 and it flashes all roms, on this phone it seems to be different because I saw all the recoveries and this won't flash this specific ROM and that won't flash that specific ROM, I'm Rommed using the simplified method, will this cwm cover all roms in the list?
