Hello all. Quick question. Does wired tethering work? Just want to make sure before I update use that's how I access the internet on my computer. Also I download the file to my phone, use astro file manager to change the location, power down and reboot with vol. down+end correct? Anything else?

Quit whining lol it's the best update we've had and even if we don't get the update I can live with this leak I don't know about the rest of you.

Whoah, what? You won't be able to use Astro File Manager if you boot to install the ROM. Cut out the Astro step completely.

If you bought EasyTether or PDANet, it should still work.

Caddy, just wanted to add my thanks to all the others! I've been holding out (and happy with 1.5) for the 2.1 OTA but finally made the switch with this v3 link yesterday. I'm usually a bleeding edge guy and run the latest os's on everything I own. =) But I've been one of the lucky ones and have had no problems with my Eris, just wanted the new features, especially the Google Nav functionality.

All I can say is WOW! It's like I got a new toy! Upgrade was super smooth, reinstalled my apps and am rockin' the new update. I can't speak for everyone, but for me it's been a flawless update.

So I updated my 1.5 to 2.1 v3 and I must say I am loving it. Well, almost loving it. I know some have complained about phone lag, and I always assumed they were talking about how sluggish the dialer was. I am having a lag when it comes to receiving calls. When I called my cell from a landline phone, the landline rang 3 or 4 times before my cell began to vibrate/ring. Is there a fix for this? Is this what people really meant when they were talking about the "dialer" lag? Thanks to anyone in advance who can assist.

I am a complete newby and I just followed the instructions and everything worked out just fine. The only problem that I am having is facebook. I cannot login for some reason...

Are you connected to the internet? If you connect through WiFi, you will need to enter in the network key again after doing a hard reset.

Or you could just use 3G

I thought if you downloaded directly to the phone it went to the "downloads" folder on the sd card, then you had to move It out of that folder. Can you not use astro to move the file then do a reboot, or do I have to use a pc to download the file and copy it to the phone?

Thats your slot cycle that needs adjusted. check this thread to learn about it and how to adjust it.

This is true. Needs to be in the root of your sd card. Astro can move it for you. Make sure the file is PB00IMG.zip and doesnt have anything else in it. Then boot with vol down + pwr to install.

Yes, if you download the file directly from the phone, you can use a file manager to move the file from the download folder to the root of your SD card and then run the installation via instructions.

Should I delete the old file from the 2nd leak off of my phone? or can I just download this straight to my eris from the browser and do it that way?

yes. you shouldn't have any other files containing previous leaks on your sd card. you'll need to download the new leak (v3) and then move it to the root of the sd card (first level - it will probably download to your "downloads" folder).

Is anybody noticing a shorter battery life? Mine has been upplugged for 6 hours today... minimal use, and is already at 30% remaining...
I'm really thinking sense eats up the battery :(
Any thoughts/ hints??

Yes. Mine hasn't gone that fast, but the first 10% goes in the first hour. It seems to be using more juice overall though.

When I check Spare Parts, it's showing that the Android System is using most of the power, not an app. Also, as I posted somewhere else, my phone's awake time continues to climb in airplane mode.

Read the screen probably tells you to push vol up or down or trackball.

well yeah i know how it works, i was running the 2.1v2 before. i guess it just froze. if i saw that it said <action> yes i would have done it. just had to take the battery out and try again. weird thing was that when i pressed the trackball for yes everything restarted, so the phone went through the usual process and i didnt have to press anything. WEIRD.

The only issues I have had thus far with v3 is market crashed out once. Everything else seems to be working fine. So far I am getting the experience I would expect with 2.1

Props to Caddy for passing this version on.

Yea in the battery usage setting I notice that Android System is eating a LOT of battery... more than cell standby or anything... hmmmm.

I'm going to try switching to just normal Home next charge and seeing how that affects battery.

I think it's supposed to go through loading the ZIP file's contents twice. Once to test, then it restarts and does it again when it's doing the upgrade for real.

It might be buried in here somewhere-- but are we still anticipating an OTA for the 2.1?

I am not very tech savvy (but am fascinated by many of the discussions here for some weird reason). So I would rather wait for an OTA than using the leak, or even rooting the phone, and wind up bricking it.

Maybe I should give in and by an Incredible.

Yes, the OTA will arrive, we just don't know when. Also, I haven't heard of one person bricking their phone with the 2.1 leaks.
