Root ICS/CM9-JB/CM10 Development Thread

heres the MIUI 4.1 test rom: Goo.im Downloads - miui_lg855_jb-2.12.21_test1.zip

cameras broke
phone will probably think its GSM and say some shit about sim cards
auto brightness is broke
usb mass storage is broke (adb and sdcard work tho)
the notification window shows some black bar when pulling up and down
bluetooth only turns on after a reboot, same thing with turning it off lol

Just FYI!

Google Now voice search does not work either.

No problems with 3g yet. It's pretty responsive though. For a first test, I'm really impressed. As Chopstickwar said, there's issues with voice search. Besides that, not much else is broken that hasnt been said. I was even able to connect to my Bluetooth headphones. Great work, Bloodawn!

are sms and mms working alright?

I've been testing Hyper kernel v3.0 on CM10, it seems to be more stable and smooth now, lees reboots and better temperature while using the phone when it's charging, the only problem was playing some games that doesn't detect when i touch the screen some times.
but beside that so far so good.

I think the mms fix may also relate to the cdma/gsm issue. I get sporadic issues with mms when it can't download, usually occurring after the "sim detected" prompt. Anyone else using the mms fix let me know if you run into any similar issues

On cm10, i tend to use Juice Defender ultimate so i can save some more battery. That's when i don't get my data back. When Juice Defender turns it off and i go to temp enable it won't come back on forcing me to reboot. Idk if any of that info will help, but I felt like i should maybe let tdm and blood know.

Is that related with the spotty radio? Have you tried sending yourself a text message to see if that re-enables 3g?

Yes it's when i have the spotty radio, also i send myself an sms like you recommended to me a while ago and it didn't work. Idk what to do other than rebooting. Hopefully this hyper kernel update will fix it maybe? Idk if the kernel has anything related to that problem.

Also, on a side note; can we use another 2.6.35 phone for support on the kernel? (if that even makes sense) for instance the Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 2 4G has the 2.6.35 kernel running cm10? Idk, still new and don't know much!

yo tdm,

I don't know if you noticed or not but with your cm10 the captive buttions are always flashing when the screen is on.

so I edited init.lgesniperboard.rc and changed

Code:
write /sys/devices/platform/omap/omap_i2c.2/i2c-2/2-001a/blink_enable 0

to

Code:
write /sys/devices/platform/i2c_omap.2/i2c-2/2-001a/blink_enable 0

to fix it.

Blood, how do we fix this ourselfs? Can we do it while the phone is running the rom?

This cm10 is running a GB 2.X.X kernel as tdm was still having issues with usb and a few other things with the 3.x.x kernel. Otherwise, the cameras and usb and everything else would be working.

Your issue will not be fixed by the kernel. I believe when I asked tdm about it he said it was most likely something in the ril in the build. The kernel doesn't really effect the radio as far as I know. I believe the ril is built into the rom. It has files in /system/lib. It may also be related to the cdma/gsm issue the cm10 builds are having on this device. It is present in cm10, aokp, and miui.

Sometimes it takes a few texts. Other times I've had it hang for a few minutes then it kicks in. Rebooting doesn't always solve it either for me. The best method I've found is the sms from the stock messaging app.

No. The GB kernel is tweaked to work with ics/jb. That's why blood built 2 separate hyper kernels. If they were interchangeable that would be redundant.

I don't think anything good would happen if you flashed a GB kernel since gb and jb are different source trees

noob question would porting cm10 from another phone with working camera would it work on our phone

No. You can port the rom but you still need the 3.x.x kernel to run everything. Odds are the few remaining bugs are kernel related and won't be fixed until the 3.x.x is either successfully ported or built from source

there a way to port kernels ?
Why yes I believe there is, although I have never done it myself. It appears to require countless hours of reading code, trial and error testing of changes, troubleshooting, then repeat, and repeat, and repeat, and repeat. In spare time go to your real job or respond to regular online requests for an ETA or how it's progressing. Not really sure, but that's my interpretation of how blood, tdm, monster, and others do it.

You are correct, and even after all that it's no guarantee that it will work. Plus it's easier to port sources from a phone similar to the one you have, i.e. Lg Optimism Black to Lg Marquee.
