Root ICS/CM9-JB/CM10 Development Thread

Soooo....

What's better as a daily driver: CM10 or AOKP?

I've come to the conclusion that I'm OK with no camera for the time being.

For me CM works more stable, and you should try Hyper kernel v3, that thing is amazing!...
yeah some of us love those ROMs so much that prefer to stay without camera for a while

I'm running CM10 and I absolutely love it but I have noticed that while I don't seem to go without signal, the strength of my signal is apparently lower. Of course it could be that it just displays signal differently, but it appears to be much worse.

I'll give AOKP a shot.

Check the signal level in the secret phone menu (dial *#*#4636#*#* to access it). I don't see how the radio could be affected by the ROM.

The RIL code is somewhat different in JB .. perhaps the signal strength reporting has changed. That might also explain the 3G spottiness. If, for example, the RIL decides that the signal is not strong enough to support 3G. But I don't know if that's what happens or not.

Possible, but I'm still thinking it's related to the gsm issue. When 3g drops there is no fluctuation in the signal. And typically, it comes before or after the sim reboot prompt

In cm10 I never got a sim reboot prompt it would just disappear I thought it was juice defender for awhile but then didn't install juice with fresh install of cm10 and still disappeared. I was manually shutting down data when it disappeared again. fresh install then no shutting off data disappeared again. No problems so far with AOKP. very happy now

I kept getting the SIM prompt and could never make it go away so the phone became unusable so I was not able to test either of the roms :(. I was so disappointed that I could not provide feedback or even try the roms they looked awsome. This happened with CM10 and AOKP. I had to go back to 3.75 The only issue I have there is Bluetooth which I rarely use as a shut in.

Any time I get that prompt, I hit the back button and it goes away. Been using aokp daily for a month or so now

If only. I tried many different things. Removing apps, Search the threads and Google no dice. Ah well maybe next time.

I don't know why either tdm but it's happening. I've been testing signal off and on with rooted stock, CTMod and CM10. When the weather is bad it affects my signal. Sometimes I have no signal at all with CTMod or CM10 and can flash to rooted stock and it'll go from the dreaded red X to 2 or 3 bars. I've had to do this several times over the past few months. For some reason just plain old rooted stock picks up the signal better. If it only happened one time I would have just ruled it out as a fluke but I've had it happen on quite a few occasions so I know there is something actually going on.

It's really not a biggie for me. I just keep a CWM backup of rooted stock and restore it when we've got bad weather.
I just wanted to throw that out there since someone mentioned lower signal strength.

I'll probably need a logcat from ics and from jb to compare.

Would you need a logcat from me when I'm loosing signal and then one from the stock after I flash it so you can compare them? Would a logcat actually show you what is causing the difference in signal between ROMs? If that's all you need and it'll help, I'll be happy to get them if I can remember to do so. The problem is me remembering to do it. Lol :D

Just any time would be a good start. And it needs to be a radio log.

Started up my "good" marquee and looks like the battery is dead. 0% charge and no progress after half an hour on the charger. Swapped batteries with my old busted marquee and all is well again. Hooray for spare parts! :)

I heard that! Spare batteries are a must. After the company screwed up my original shipment of 1800mAh replacement batteries, I ended up with 5. The original, 2 1500mAh, and 2 1800mAh. LOL, hurting for batteries I am not. :p

Well, CM10 started going nutty on me and is not stable at all. It's constantly rebooting and I'm getting the SIM notification. The phone app is shutting down regularly as well.

I'll give AOKP a shot with a clean as can be install.
