Root ICS Source Code available!

I hope that some developers will be able to port it over to the Evo with as much working as possible. I can't upgrade until April, and I would like to see something new.

How long did it take for cm7 builds to hit after gingerbread source was released? Awesome awesome news for sure!

I'm hoping for something by the end of the year that will tide me over until the first LTE phones hit Sprint.

hell yeah! thanx for the heads up. iCS roms here we come.

It shouldn't be too God aweful long for the 3vo to get it officially. Once the code is released htc will begin development for it no doubt. Then the really good stuff begins, because we'll get fully working roms from the ruu.
Unless of course htc releases a newer phone for Sprint with it already loaded.
Ok, who wants to start taking #'s? We can set up over and unders with odds. :D

I heard that a new ICS feature for unlocking phones is going to be facial recognition. Not sure how well it'll work, I'm guessing that the 2mp camera could get a bit sketchy depending on lighting and a lot of other variables actually. But still freaking awesome.

Super excited for ICS on CM.

Yep, they used it in the original release for the Nexus but it failed to work . The demonstrator ended up using one of the current methods to unlock the phone (pin, picture, ect). So if all else fails we'll have that still

Lol, still better then when during a release windows got the BSOD.... I don't actually know if that happened, but I remember *hearing* about it. ;)

There is a ICS ROM out already. ICSmod7 v1.0 forgot who did it. I'll check. I ran it for a few days. Pretty smooth!!!

it is only a themed cm7 with ics elements. it is not a full ics rom. we should start seeing some roms soon. my guess would be by this weekend we start seeing ics roms come out.

yeah i doubt that the code will work for the evo right out of the box. most of phones getting ics will have a mosly likely be those with dual core processors. or at least the next gen snapdragon processor. so i doubt that it will work optimally right off the bat. but who knows what is in the actual code. curious to see what the devs cook up in the kitchen with this code.

Think its going to be interesting to see how ROMS change over with the new code cause maybe the processor routines are not backward compatible but memory routines should work to help with memory that is provided the ROM isn't so big that our measely little evos doesn't have enough space for it

i just saw that so i had to share. sucks that at the end it gets garbled. hopefully the poster will get that fixed and uploaded.

i also found this:
Building for devices | Android Open Source.

somewhere in the middle is an interesting quote
Starting with IceCreamSandwich, the Android Open-Source Project can't be used from pure source code only, and requires additional hardware-related proprietary libraries to run, specifically for hardware graphics acceleration.

not sure what that will mean for evo owners. hopefully the devs can figure something out.
