If your Optimus V is working properly talk about it.

Replace as much stock as you can with user apps and you will have a great personalised phone that runs great. My replacement list when unrooted: gosms (faster and more advanced than stock, run minimal setting to get the best out of it) quick pic (so much better than gallery, faster, smoother, and has its own video player) launcher is just based on your taste. Dolphin browser or Opera Mini if your low on space. TouchPal keyboard,( a good mix between Android and Swype with a control tab with arrows, cut and paste, and more) that's a good start.

Couple of weeks on this V and I'm pleased. It's stock. I'm procrastinating rooting, but so far haven't found a reason for the additional maintenance. Getting about 2 days/charge with light usage. No games, video or audio playing because I have equipment that handles that job. Painless bluetooth pairing with TomTom go 720. Only problem I've had was unplugging USB without stopping the windows system task bar app to make it safely disconnect. I wasn't moving any data and thought it would be ok. Locked her up. Had to reformat sd card and now I always hit that windows task bar app.

old intercept user, got my OpV back in july? august? due to my intercept taking a nasty drop. no issues ever. ive been running stock from the get go and so far the best device ive used on VM's network.

only thing i want is a physical keyboard. im a bigg man with bigg banana hands. touch screens irk me and i love that good ole tactile reassurance. yea i know the OpV slider is out. next on the list.

A few quirks once in a while, but nothing serious.. Probably one of the best Android phones I've had thus far...:D

My "V" with the newest BACKside build is utterly amazing. With the addition of Dolphin HD and some of there free addons, it's almost like having a PC(except for the virtual keyboard which at times can be quite exasperating) .

King James version: Ecc 1:2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
New World Translation: Ecc 1:2 "The greatest vanity!" the congregator has said, "the greatest vanity! Everything is vanity!"
Jewish Publication Society, Hebrew-English TANAKH: Ecc 1:2 Utter futility!-said Koheleth-Utter futility! All is futile!

9 months and going strong. Stock, unrooted for 7 months, no problems. Rooted for 2 months, no problems. No custom ROMs and my free space never goes below 100mb. Everything is fast and smooth (why bother with a customer ROM?). Only minor complaints:

1. audio quality through speaker
2. audio volume through jack
3. small screen

All of which I can live with.

AND audio quality on video. wow it's bad.

i have only been using this phone for about a week, but i really love it. takes awhile to get used to turning 3G, wifi, etc, on and off to save battery, but i downloaded quicksettings--great app.

used the navigation today for the first time--worked great. i really hate the voice it has though. it's nice to have the voice but i just wish it were a bit more intelligible. 'spose i'll get used to that, too. :)

what else? everything is smooth--some apps are l bit jumpy in the scrolling dept, G+ for example. but that was bad on my iPod touch too. same with FB. deleted them both.

i love how customizable the android platform is. i can make this thing look how i want it to, unlike on the iPod.

hey, btw, anyone tell me how to get a screenshot?

Or you can find apps in the market. I don't remember the name of it, but I had one before I turned to the BACKside, you shook the phone to snap the shot. A little scouting around should turn one up.

Shootme is the one I used, but last I knew it was gone from the market. It and most if not all screen shot apps require root access on most devices (does not on ours).

I really really wanted to post this after i'd had the phone about a week. But that wouldn't have been fair. Now that i've had it 3 weeks... I'll go ahead and post my initial reaction.

Haven't had a screen-lock or had to power down since i got the phone. One force-close with the wunderground app - which a crapton of other people have dealt with as well. Not the phone's fault.

I'm not rooted and i don't intend to. 23 third party apps installed and i have 58MB free... If i have any memory issues i'll yoink angry birds without a second thought.

I use it's bluetooth around an hour a day for mp3 playage, perhaps 1/2hr a day otherwise (1.hr total). Wifi maybe 30 min a day (active use - sometimes forget to disable between sessions), GPS almost never. 3G gets turned on and off maybe 10 times a day - i use evernote a bunch as well as general 'nettage. Can't really estimate usage on that too accurately - i'd say it's in active use perhaps 1.5 hours daily - but i am human and do forget to turn it off between sessions sometimes. I've got Auto-Airplane app set to Airplane me between 3am and 6am - the latest i'd typically stay up, and the earliest i'd ever get up. Not on the same night of course lol.

All that being said:

I'm very pleased with my purchase in other ways, but i figured i'd share this, perhaps the most mind blowing reason.

FYI to those interested in root-free screenshots, i took the shots with Screenshot It Trial. Perhaps a different, free app which is for "rooted only" phones would work.

If i was an Andy, i'd be wanking to pictures of this phone.

With that kind of usage that is normal. It's all about controlling those radios. That's what kills the battery.

I mention it primarily for those who are curious regarding potential battery life - supported by shots and specific data rather than "waahh it dies in half hour WTF" type BS folks will read elsewhere. Secondarily, however, i *was* under a different impression regarding it's expected battery life:

If your getting 36 hours and still have 20% battery then your doing just as good as my rooted/BACKside ROM phone. Thats pretty awsome.

So why are you complaining about your signal? You got awesome battery life for a stock "V"!

36 hours -> 20% was before i started using the auto airplane thingy. Now it's about double that. How toggling airplane mode for 3hr/day doubles battery life i don't know... But hell, i'll take it.

PS: I didn't mention voice usage anywhere... So............ um... uh... how can i say this without sounding like a dick... What if my voice usage was significantly above average - versus, say, none at all. Certainly *that* radio usage counts as well.

I've had my V for 5 days. My first ever smart phone. I've been in gadget heaven researching and trying to figure things out. Only problem I had were some minor things to straighten out after going to BACKside. My fault, not the phone or BACKside. :) I love it so far. I just need to find a way to make larger text for my aging eyes.

I read reviews before buying the phone and most cons were about short battery life. I don't remember the exact stats, but after an initial charge, It was off the charger 2 days and I still had plenty of juice left. That was before rooting and ROM'ing. I'm happy. :)

First post here!

So I've had the phone for 2 months and everything is great. However, now im stuck around 20 mb internal memory, which puts me in a crappy situation if I want to download more apps. In all honesty, I really haven't downloaded many apps. I have apps2sd and everything but still around 20mb.

Any advice you guys can give me about increasing my internal memory without rooting or deleting apps?

Thanks

Mac is right, without rooting your phone, you're going to have a continual balancing act with apps vs space. The OV isn't the only phone with this limitation, but it is by far the most hampering limitation the OV has.

Along these lines... How many downloaded apps is "a lot" ? Obviously they can vary greatly in size - but what's a ballpark ?

Mine isn't typical (at all) but before I rooted, I had around 6 or so. Now I have about 130. :) I really need to clean out the ones I never use!

Thanks for the help guys. Looks like ill have to root, but before I do can somebody look at this:

How to move all Android apps to SD card

Has anybody done this and do you think this will work?

According to the article, it requires no rooting...

It works, to a point. The app gets moved to the SD card, but not any of it's data or libraries it comes with. Link2SD does a much more thorough job, but requires root access.

You can probably free up a lot of space by deleting cache files and even data. I keep 20-30meg free by doing that, and have about 80 apps, or so. All that can be on SD are.

Sometimes I lose space to weird things, like Friendcaster contact syncing...found like 40 meg of that, deleted it all and disabled the sync. Now sit around 4 meg, even with pictures.

I've had my Optimus V for nearly a year now. Other than occasional annoyances from needing to obtain 3G service again, no issues to complain about

HOWEVER; I did get bored of froyo 2.2 and decided to root the phone. Still works great

I had my lg optimus v for 7 months. When i first got it the 3g was sporatic. Then i switched to to unlimited plan and i didn't have any problems for months. Then as i started to download apps and play games the phone started to freeze here and there. Nothing a turn on and off wouldn't fix. However for the last 2 months i feel my phone wasn't working that well. My work email stopped working, nothing to fix. In messaging would stick on the numbers and could not get out.

Finally 5 days ago the phone just was not working right. I was very frustrated. So i called customer service and they wanted to send me a new phone. I have decided that sure its not the service its the phone. But my other observation is that all the other companies with the fancy phones all experience the same problems. Its because the technology is advanced but they don't have anyone building these things so that they work. Just enough to get it by. Thats the problem.

Anyway i made customer service walk me through a hard reset. I didn't pay for any app and any apps downloaded i can re-download no problem, you can export your contacts to your sd card so you won't lose your info. The only thing you will have to reset up your email as well. I don't find this to be that big of an issue either. Bottom line is the hard reset worked perfectly. My phone has been working better than ever.

Sometimes if your phone isn't working its b/c the bugs in the apps make the phone not work.
