Incredible Tips and Tricks

No, wasn't really wanting to hide them. Under the desktop google talk app, there is a setting you can use that will hide any contacts that are offline in the google talk app, so that you don't have everone visible, if they aren't on line.

You will have to install the .apk. Here's step by step instructions:

1. Download the .apk file.
2. Copy .apk file to microSD card (either via mounting the phone or through a memory card reader.
3. On your phone, allow installing unknown sources: Menu -> Settings -> Applications. Check Unknown sources.
5. Open Astro, browse to your microSD card.
6. Select the Swype .apk file and it will go through the install process.
7. Once installed you need to make it your default keyboard:
a. Go to Menu -> Settings -> Language & Keyboard. Check Swype.
b. Open a new text message.
c. Press and hold the text input box. A box will pop up. Select Input Method, then select Swype.

Done :)

Awesome! - Thanks for all your tips/info, both here and in our beloved Official Thread. Is there any concern with using this that it will damage the phone or any other concerns?

Thanks in advance.

downloaded Handcent for texts... worked fine yesterday and most of today. then it just stopped vibrating when i was getting new texts. when i go to Test Notification settings.. it doesnt vibrate anymore. i've trued just about everything

There's a response up on this same page answering that question tho don't remember who answered it. The answer, tho, is that because there's a light sensor on the phone and maybe it's brightly lit where you're at that the light sensor isn't letting the buttons light up the same way it automatically turns off the backlighting when you're outside (or at least it did on my Eris droid).

Try putting a finger over the light sensor at the top of the phone next to the power button. If the buttons light up when pressed then you know that's the issue.

Thanks very much, that appears to be the answer. The backlights remain lit if my office lights are turned off but disappear when I turn the office lights on. I presume it is default to increase battery life but if anyone has knowledge to default the backlit lights always on, please advise.

Can anyone recommend a good player for streaming audio files? I listen to a radio station out of Stony Brook, NY and they stream it via .pls files (playable in winamp and WMP). I tried two apps on the incredible, AOR and Cherry Radio. Neither one works with the URL for the stony brook .pls file.

I like streamfurious so far...im typing this from my inc and haven't exactly figured out how to link apps from the phone yet...

A set of special characters (including > and <) can be found by clicking the "12#" key to the right of the space, then the "1/2" to the left of the space.
You know, I swear I looked at every single key on that keyboard. That's what I get for playing with my new phone at 1AM. It's right where you said, of course.

One "Doh!" for me.

If I have birthdays, anniversaries, etc listed for contacts in People, how do I get those dates to appear in my calendar? Thanks for all the good information so far!!

Q: Is there a way you can "screencap" the phone? (an app maybe?)
Yes, but it is a bit extensive in what you have to do, there are several steps (not even close to the simple iphone procedure for screencaps). No app will do it as of now.

So last night I fully charged my Incredible before I went to bed because I didn't want to leave it plugged in all night and when I woke up, it was dead! 100% depleted. It had worked fine for a good 8 hours of heavy use during the day. WTF happened? Anyone know what's going on or had a similar problem?

Did you leave GPS, WIFI on? I had these turned off and my phone was like 97% charged.

Agree only apps for rooted phones. I know there are some great guides on how to cap screens using adb. Search if your up for finding out how.

I downloaded this application as well and wondered if someone could help me with an issue. Now that I have this running, I would like to use it instead of the stock messaging application. However, even after I have received a message through Handcent, I still have the little green bubble with the number of messages popping up on the messages indicator and I have to open up and read the messages anyway. Is there a way to disable this so that I don't have to double the work?

Do you need to uninstall the previous version first?

If so, how?

I would uninstall it to be sure.

To uninstall, hit Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications. Scroll till you see Swype (I think it's com.swype.android...). Select it and hit uninstall.

You have to disable notifications from the stock message app. Open the stock messaging app the hit Menu -> Settings. Uncheck all the received notifications. I also unchecked the sent notifications.

I believe that it will always show the message count no matter what you do. The crazy thing is that you really cannot shut the messaging program off. You are just shutting down the notifications. It would be nice to be able to turn the SMS/MMS part of it off and just leave the voicemail stuff on.

Basically you may use more battery up using Handcent since the messaging app and Handcent are doing double duty.
