Root Is LG an easy root?

Unless you've bought a new battery for your GN recently the original is only putting about 50% of what it did new....

I'm back on my GN myself and really starting to get curious about this phone... :)

I have 3 batteries for my gnex. The original, the extended that i got the day i bought the phone, and anther extended that i bought after one year. The original didn't get used until about 4 months ago. They all have terrible life on 4G with a strong consistent signal. If in on WiFi all day, they all last about as long as when they were new.

to answer your question, Steven, Verizon G3 is already rooted by both IOroot v.1 and towelroot.

in other news:

our world as we know it is rapidly coming to an end.

MaineCoon: but the bootloader is still locked for verizon, right? No custom recovery?

It could be mine too. IDK. This or the note 4. I just updated my ROM to the latest KK AOKP on my GNex, so I feel a bit placated. :p

My issue so far is the driver. When you enable USB debugging its supposed to give you a prompt for the RSA fingerprint. I am not getting that prompt to be able to run root. When I go and plug my phone into the my computer It recognized the device, I open up the folder click on tools and I see the USB driver. So I select the driver and it tells me its corrupted. So I am guessing that is the reason why I am not getting the RSA prompt. I cant seem to find a working version of the driver online. the one I found didnt install either. So I am guess I am kind of stuck

Which variant?

I don't believe there's been an update for vzw. If in doubt, go to settings > about phone > software info.

If software version ends in 10b, you're good for IOroot. I'm not sure if anybody's confirmed towelroot at the time of this writing. If so, great.

I'm pretty sure towelroot works. The nice thing about it is, it either roots your phone or nothing happens. So you have nothing to lose trying it.

I am using Verizon. My build version ends in 10B, still cant get RSA fingerprint to come up. I also tried downloading towelroot to the phone the APK file, and the phone is not currently supported, that is the message I get anyway.

I have never had any trouble rooting before I also always used ODIN in the past for Samsung devices. Anyone have a link to the Verizon Drivers, the ones off the LG site don't seem to work.

Have you tried installing the VZW_United drivers yet?

Look in device manager when plugging in the phone and see if you have any unrecognized devices that pop up at that exact time.

Ok I downloaded from your link and installed it. Opened up device manager and plugged the phone into the PC. Device manager refreshes on PC but nothing pops up. I can see my phone on the PC, that has always worked. So I can click on it and go into the files and folders and such. Debugging was on before I plugged into the PC. I really need root so I can get my Foxfi app to work I use that so much while traveling.

The following is for VZW:

1. You need the verizon drivers. The prior link is likely fine, but here is what I used last night: https://mega.co.nz/#!58YHAZaQ!yNlgZG1m7toHBZp_0HF1jSQ66gMoZmmiDrNq9W5aJIc

(Link Source Reference: http://www.mylgphones.com/download-and-install-the-usb-drivers-for-lg-g3-on-windows-and-mac.html )

I downloaded the zip, unpacked it, and ran the .msi file. It didn't seem like anything happened, but it actually did install the driver.

2. You need to enable USB debugging.
3. I used IOroot as I am on VZW. From a master spreadsheet on another site, towelroot was listed as No for VZW.
4. My VZW version is 10B.

Load the verizon USB drivers, then unpack the IOroot download on a Windows PC.

Plug your phone into your PC, setting the phone USB mode to PTP.

Go into your IOroot folder, step down to the subfolder with ADB in it.

Open a command window on your PC, type in "ADB devices"

See if it lists something (it shouldn't :) ) If not, on your phone go back into the phone USB setting, switch it from PTP to Internet/Ethernet (I do not recall seeing Internet as an option until after the phone was plugged into the PC). Retry the "ADB devices" command.

If still no success, while the phone USB is still set to Internet/Ethernet, unplug and replug the USB cable on your PC, then give it one last "ADB Devices".

On one of those last two "ADB devices" you should see your device listed in the PC command window, and see the RSA Fingerprint popup on your phone -- accept it, that tells the phone it is okay to take ADB commands from your PC.

Now, on your PC, in the command window do a "cd .." to bump up one level, to the folder ioroot.bat is located in. Type in "ioroot.bat".

Follow the rest of the instructions in the ioroot instructions file (that you get when you unzip the ioroot package). One item mentions something happening in around 6 seconds, it took more like 15 seconds I believe --- be patient.

No promises, but the above is what I did last night. I added Chainfire's SU right after rooting, then my own personal couple of must-have root apps.

Otherwise, wait through the weekend -- it sounds like devs are doing good things, may have a cleaner documented method in a couple days.

Good luck!

Make sure the debugging icon is showing up in the notification bar. It's tricky on vzw. You have to select "internet connection", then ethernet. Occasionally, it still won't work so in that event, switch to MTP, then back again to internet connection/ethernet to force the issue.

If you're doing all that and still not getting it, you may have an issue with your adb driver not working right. In that event, let me know and we can try something else.

Alexander - are you trying IOroot? What I wrote up above should work on vzw, including the step of unplugging and replugging the cable after changing to Internet/Ethernet

Yes I am trying IOroot, well I had it but I messed up. I got the RSA screen to pop up, started the root, then my phone got stuck on on the screen where it sad bad command and I couldnt get passed. Pulled the battery trying to start over but now I cant get the RSA screen to come back. I think selecting always remember this computer is what messed it up. Not sure what i did wrong on the root part. The only instructions in IOROOT folder is

urrent ioroot, device supported list and more info in link below:
