Root Is LG an easy root?

I went from the Droid X (difficult rooting) to the Gnex (great for rooting). Does anyone have experience with LG rooting? Can I expect ease? Do you think this will be a phone that developers will write for?
 
The g2 is the only lg in recent past that I've owned and rooted. Actually very easy and no snags along the way.

Development seems pretty strong for the g2, I could see it being pretty strong for the g3 as well.
 
Rooting shouldn't be a huge problem, that locked bootloader will be though. Loki exploit is probably already patch too. Meaning no custom kernel or recoveries for now. But we should probably wait for the device to be released to see what we're up against but ever since the past year LG devices hasn't been exactly Dev friendly.
 
Loki has been clutch in the past but its been patched on KitKat. My guess...and its only a guess...is that an unlock may take awhile. The G2 was never truly unlocked but then again there was no real need since Loki worked easily prior to 4.4 and was still made to work using smoke and mirrors on 4.4 (using hacked JB files which won't be an option for an out of the box 4.4 release in the G3) .

I may be overlooking an unforseen option but my knee jerk reaction is that a full bootloader unlock will be necessary and that may prove difficult. On the plus side, I'm guessing some of the greatest talents will be working on this one due to an expectedly high user base.

Bottom line, I may wait for a short time before pulling the trigger to see how it shakes out.
 
Just to be clear, I'm not saying it won't be rooted quickly. It may well be. But I'm just not a huge fan of using root for the purpose of modifying /system without having a custom recovery as a bailout plan.

That said, if we can get our hands on the stock kdz or better yet, the .dll and .tot files, then we can at least get ourselves back to booting stock in the event of a soft brick. Problem is, that process will wipe the phone entirely. Although if we have the option to save Titanium backups to the external sdcard, assuming it does in fact exist, then we'd be a leg up for restoring apps at least.

edit: come to think of it, if TiBu works with external sd, we could probably also use the phone settings option to backup data to google servers and between the two, could probably rebound fairly well from a full reset. Hmm, might not be the worst I guess.
 
Am I willing to sacrifice this freedom? Of course, the Gnex really stops at Jelly Bean because I can't get it to run well on KK. Too old. So many choices. The note 4 is rumored to have the new 810 processor with 64 bit processing, curved screen. I'm driving myself crazy.
 
So, lemme get this clear. There is NO vzw phone that allows custom kernel anymore? Huh.

The G2 does, but the G3 will not unless another exploit is figured out. Loki is patched.

Don't plan on it my friend. I'm hoping for the best and figuring some of the greatest minds will be working on it is slightly reassuring but at this stage, I'm planning on root only. At least in the early stages.
 
This is true but at least we don't have knox that all Samsung devices have now. It will be a little easier because isn't the s4 locked tight and still no bypass besides safestrap
 
Well, since we know, now, that the VZW variant will be 3/32, the g3 is now back in the running. I honestly don't believe that the difference between snapdragon 801 and 805 will make a big enough difference to me, especially coming from a Gnex. I was thinking of waiting for the note 4, but these two devices seem similar enough, perhaps the g3 being more manageable in the hand due to slim bezels.

The other difference is why I wrote this thread. The root-ability. Loki is more patchable than the Knox, which is impossible. That's a plus.
 
I have been spoiled by the Gnex (VZW) too and I'm having trouble finding a good replacement. I want something with better battery life, better data handoffs, a good (not necessarily the best) camera, and something that can offer some root/rom fun. Although I'm hearing the battery life isn't great, it may have to be a sacrifice for a better camera. I'm growing impatient as my gnex is unbearably slow and 4G is killing my battery life. Why can't they make a phone that has everything I want? I would have jumped on the M8 if they didn't choke on the camera.
 
I'll wait to see it in the stores. The reviews are not for the american phones. Battery life could be better on phones designed for us rather than phones designed for Asia brought over to USA networks.
 
Yeah I'm waiting to hold it in my hands too. I just need to get a full day out of a phone. The gnex barely makes it on Wi-Fi and doesn't make it past lunch on a very good 4G signal.
 
I only get about to 2&a half hours heavy usage on my Galaxy Nexus with extended battery. How sorry is that?
