Root [Kernel][GB] KoumaKernel 2.5

Finally ready to make the jump to KK. Been reading this thread for about 90 min now and need a question answered.

What is the recommended way to make a SD partition (and format as needed) on my current SD card?

Class 10/16G (about 8G free) and would rather not lose my data.

...

1. spent an hour realizing I didnt have CWM and fighting dead links to get CWM
2. data gone, did not bakup externally !!!
3. in a Kouma boot loop
4, As far as I can tell did not format, only saw a 13+G partition before boot loop

Oh damn... not much we can do for deleted data. but as for everything else:

All Hail Mighty ODIN!

That should fix anything, plus it allows you to root and install clockworkmod at the same time

No CWM?
Then how did you get on an EXT4 based ROM?
Oh wait, you probably weren't, hence the bootloop
if you get CWM installed, you can backup your /data but everything but the apps will pretty much need to be tossed because it would be incompatible with the newer filesystems.

It sucks losing data, it's happened to me I don't know how many times. I'm kinda used to it now :D

I had CWM installed but had to upgrade to FA19, which I have been avoiding. All the bit.ly links are dead on ther Odin page.

I put the project aside as I became annoyed at the situation.

Had a couple beers earlier which led to the poor decision to ignore backing up my SD data. Lesson learned.

i haven't paid a single bit of attention to fa19 isit any good or worth using

It's not entirely that bad. Some folks have had improvements with the modem using FA19. However, more and more people get problems then improvements and have switched back to EJ06.

yeah well mine is working too smooth and good to try that then at least for now

thanks for the info though

I made a 2G partition w CWM this morning and have to admit I need help:

1. Cannot see 2G in Windows or on Prevail (np seeing the 14G partition).

2. How do I know if it is formatted correctly? (ext4?) found SD2EXT4 link

3. When I open the Kouma file in notepad there is no file ext. Making changes to it forces a new file ext, which I assume won't work for setup purposes. Can't open on Prevail with stock image (thinkfree office and such installed).

I have prolly spent over 5 hours on this project and haven't quite found necessary info through searching posts. I did find new links to CWM/EJ06 and abandoned the FA19 I installed earlier. :D

You can't

if you ran the SD2EXT.zip, you are now doubly sure it's right

you should open it with Notepad++. Windows notepad will break the file. On the phone itself, you should use the built in text editor for your file explorer

Help in green above. Keep asking if you need more :)

Still boot looping on the Kouma Kernal 2.4 screen, just let it sit for 10+ min and never moved forward.

Used notepad++ to edit koumamod file to:http://androidforums.com/galaxy-pre...rnel-gb-koumakernel-2-4-a-14.html#post4153280.

Rezipped, installed to SD. CWM>install zip file >KoumaKernel2.4_CWM.zip(updated)

Prolly Odinned EJ06/CWM and installed KK (original koumamod and updated KM) 15+ times and I am clueless as to my issues.

Every time I try to light up KK, i have been stuk on the KK2.3 or KK2.4 screens.

I always edit it directly on the phone with es file explorer. Open as text using es note editor
Make changes
Hit menu save reboot

In CWM advanced
Partition SD card
ext size 1024 is 1 GB
Next size 2048 is 2 GB etc
Set swap size to 0 zero
This will delete your SD card

Stok doesnt recognize zip (or unzipped) Koumamod file.

I have used CWM to repartition (and subsequently delete all data) a couple times.

I think I know what the issue is. KoumaKernel does not support stock. it cannot mount the RFS filesystem.
If you dig stock and want the sd-ext options, give HalfAssRom a try.

KK. I have the Root/CWM/EJ06 image loaded. What change do I need to run?

I am not stuck on stok ROM, I ran Shabbymod before Gingerbread.

Roms that support Koumakernel:
http://androidforums.com/galaxy-pre...432614-rom-gb-2-3-6-ctmod-3-3-03-17-12-a.html
http://androidforums.com/galaxy-prevail-all-things-root/502820-admire-2-prevail-2-3-6-a.html
http://androidforums.com/galaxy-pre...2-rom-gb-2-3-6-halfassrom-1-0-stock-ext4.html

CyanogenMod Roms don't support KoumaKernel, but they do have some SD-EXT kernels of their own

I have just installed ctmod3.4 with kk2.4 i re-partitioned my sd to have two ext's for the ssm mod them used the sd2ext4 to convert them. Should i be able to see the extra space under applications?

I answered your post on the CTmod thread, but just to repeat: Nope. Its there, but its not visible. Install some apps and then see the difference between how much memory the app is, and how much internal memory you use.

Not bad... CPU set at Max and min settings.

CTMod 3.4
