LG G3 Pre-release/Rumor/Speculation Thread

The way I see it is that we are already into the third quarter soon. I can wait a quarter for the better tech. I know that there's always something new around the corner and with my present philosophy, I'll stand to never get a new phone.

HowEVER, THIS round of upgrades (qhd screen resolution, etc) were not satisfactory enough for me to bite. Why? I'll be 56 in August. The question is: Can I really SEE the difference at my age, anyway? When MobileTechReview showed the screens side-by-side, I it was a revelation to see the difference in brightness of screens between the S5/M8 and G3. At my age, brightness is clarity, not pixel density. My family's S5 screens are amazing. Just amazing.

My needs: I'm a HEAVY, HEAVY power-root user. I use my phone for my business. I'm a very, very busy voice teacher in my region and I'm planning on opening a branch in NYC for performing professionals. I need speed and multi-tasking power to be able to open my schedule app (which is busier than a doctor's and very intense and will become more intense when I get to NYC this fall), all this while I'm still on the phone. My Gnex lags and it's frustrating, but I can live with it for now.
I also want to be able to open other apps while I'm in other apps because I rely on multi-apps all at once and I want it with speed.

Ideally, I think I am talking Galaxy Note because of it's multi-tasking abilities and enterprise power. However, with the Note, I can't rely on rooting. I like to kill ads. I like to have the ability to tether with my unlimited, in case of emergency. I have unlimited data, and I'm unwilling to part with that, so I'll either buy the phone on Device payment plan, get a 5th line and transfer the phone over to my line or buy it outright.

When in NYC I may need tethering, although there is WiFi at the studio space. It may not be fast enough and I may either need to tether or buy a hotspot on my 5th line.

All this is to say that the G3 fails to meet my needs at this point, I believe. Am I open to changing my perspective on it, one it comes out in stores and I see it? Definitely. My main point is that this is definitely NOT a pre-order item for me, like all the other phones I've owned have been. (HTC Incredibile, Motorola Droid X, Galaxy Nexus.)

The third quarter is coming and there are big wars that are going to take place and I intend to take advantage of them. Iphone phablet? (no tethering or rooting), G note (root/tethering iffy), Lg g3 plus (maybe), S5 plus (root issues)..

Nothing's perfect. At the time? The Gnex was perfect for me. *sigh*. It ruined me.

Edit: Note to self: Next phone? White. This morning, I forgot what I did with my Gnex. I couldn't find it for the life of me, so I called it. It turned out to be right in front of my nose. It was just on a black surface. Note to self: White phone.

Not to overstate, there's little or no point to qhd for me. It only drains the battery. Who needs that? As I stated before, my next phone will nuclear powered. :p

Fair enough. You are entitled to your own needs. There no right or wrong about it.

LG will respond, with a G3P2 (prime squared). It includes the previously cited 805, adds a coffee maker.

Frankly, if my old RAZR MAXX wasn't about on its last legs, I'd shrug and skip things until next year. I really want good radio, decent battery, root, SD, manageable form factor. If the G3 had kept to a 5" 1080 screen it likely really would have been my ideal, a bump to 5" from my present 4.3".

Come on LG, time to announce a G3 Mini, with that smaller screen :)

LG G3 mini may have a 4.5-inch display

As previously reported, the screen of the G3 mini should be a 720p one. According to Zauba, the upcoming smartphone features a 5MP rear camera, 8GB of internal memory, a 2,100 mAh battery, and a 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor (most likely a Snapdragon 400). Android 4.4 KitKat and LTE connectivity are also expected to be among the device

Steven, you don't need a phone. You need an Administrative Assistant.

I saw the notional mini specs before, unfortunately the real nominal mini just doesn't cut it for me :)

The big 5.5" QHD screen, making for a physically pretty large phone as well as the extra power draw inherent to the display, is what I dislike. The processor/RAM/storage/battery/... of the G3 are all good for me.

Yeah might as well right?

This Samsung might actually be perfect for me. Great battery, excellent screen (even in sunlight), blazing 805............if they offer 32gb versions, this would give the LG a real run. Especially if water resistant.
It's not being marketed outside Korea (source), but some speculate that it will be the basis for the supposed S5 Prime.

Unfortunately for me, the Samsung's seem to not be too hot radio-wise, which is important where I live and work, and root is a big deal, for LBE Security Master and a few other apps. (I expect the recent S5 root will be patched by the time an F or S5 Prime actually comes out)

Slightly off topic...But I have a question...

The LG guest mode that will be on g3 (guess it was on previous LG phones as well), when you grant access to an app...does that app run in the normal user "space" or is it a different instance in a sandbox? So for apps like Instagram that have an account tied to them...when in guest mode, can you log in with a separate account than your normal one or would it just bring up Instagram with your normal user account already logged in?

I'm guessing not, but it would be awesome if you could. Great way to either manage two accounts or to have apps that are tied to accounts setup for your significant other when they need to borrow your phone (like when my wife gets tires of looking at her tiny iPhone screen and wants to borrow my phone for a much more enjoyable experience ;) ) ...

The LG guest mode is on the G2 also - I just checked and shared my facebook app with guest mode - it just gives you access to the same account, already logged in. In guest mode I went into facebook & it showed my normal facebook account; so I signed out of facebook while in guest mode, switched back to normal mode on my phone, & I was signed out of facebook.

Bummer...while still a cool and useful feature, it would have been awesome if it supported this...

Thanks for checking!

I can't believe we're on page 56 of speculation on a phone that won't be out for another month (at least) that several of us are pretty much not buying anyway.

Fun stuff.

Agreed. On a trip to Nashville and lots of dead and roaming areas with my S4, but my son's have the iPhone and DNA. They did not ever get no signal and no roaming either. Samsung radios are wimpy.

Added: Meesa want a G3 1080p.

I carry my GS3 (personal) and iPhone 5s (work) at all times and consistently have better service with my iPhone (both on VZW). I'd be hesitant to get another sammy.

I intend to get rid of my iPhone this summer and use my Android for both work and personal. My must haves for my next phone include signal quality and battery life.
