LG G3 Pre-release/Rumor/Speculation Thread

Hmmm.

Rather than the rumored versions of the story, is anyone in Korea claiming to have talked with the CEO of LG and reporting that?

Yes. Yes there is.

As stated by LG in Korea, the point of this model is to get to LTE-Advanced, using not only the 805 but also the new Qualcomm LTE modem.

Going on to quote LG, the new phone would have a different name and a different price from the G3, and "there would be no conflict between the two products."

Personal comment - you may notice that was all exactly the point of the M8 Prime.

So -

LG is releasing an 805-based phone with LTE-Advanced potential.

Call it what they will or you will, but by any other name, this is the G3 Prime.

Maybe or maybe it will be another version of lg G3.

Two of my favorite review sites are Anandtech and Mobiletech review.

Lisa from Mobiletech does nice practical reviews IMO. Here is her review for the G3. Notice still the Korean model, so probably no boxed US models yet. If there were, we would be seeing pre-launch test unit reviews as usual. Me thinks the launch to supply window is VERY tight for the G3.

Added: As far a likely Prime, we have no clue that a phone that does not exist yet will even be in some regions. Example: US and Verizon.

T-Mo is supposed to distribute some beta version to the winners in the US.

So there.

Correct.

It is another version of the G3, and that's why it's going to have a different name and a different price point.

805 magically appearing in the G3 and LG simply throwing away their investment in the original hardware R&D and software R&D to support QHD with an 801, on a device already breaking sales records and dominating the press - not happening.

Happy Friday the 13th!

And all hail the G3 Prime. :D

If you ask me, I think LG themselves was waiting on 805 to be settled in smartphone but due to 805 issues it was quite a tight spot. But look at it now, they are even trying or attempting to push it by July, witch is the release of US Variants.

What is required to call the device a "prime"? Just a change in components? Then wouldn't the 3gb /32gb version be a prime to the 2gb/16gb?

yeah..I am going to part with $799+tax..me thinks..:D

Okay to keep this thread going.

LG g3 us potential prime version by July witch will be also in the release of US Variants.

All the same with changes to following.

801 SoC to 805 SoC with added new modem for LTE-A for ultimate high speed.

Also may come with new version of Android 5.0 given the release of android in June and how close Google and LG have been with updates.

More goodies? Perhaps.

I am with EM.

3/32 vs 2/16 doesn't constitute the different name etc.

Different CPU+architecture does.

LG is planning 10 million units to be sold worldwide.

This 805 thing...
that's why they didn't specify any specs during the press release..

One can hope. With all this "prime" talk, it would be a smart move to just shift over to the 805 for the USA release in late July. I guess we'll see sooner or later what's up their sleeves.

Yes, but the release of a original 801 along with a prime model 805 is interesting, to say.

It is almost as the 805 was the intended regular LG G3.

If so maybe LG sells 801 at a lower value while maintaining the 805 In its proper price rage. Maybe 650-700$.

Im going by this because tmobile themselves have claimed to release exclusive or beefed up models at $700

I would imagine that a 16/2 to a 32/3 is a much bigger cost than 801 to 805.

you are an optimist :)

but since you were right on 805, maybe you'll be right on the money as well. :D

an extra hundred bucks won't make a huge difference in my financial well-being though.

There were no 805 issues and the MDM 9635 is new.

I know that you and a lot of people want replacing those components to be as simple as as changing colored Legos but it's just not.

Radio frequency motherboards are not trivial. Up the frequencies, up the data transfer rates and it requires a whole new board design so that your device doesn't fail due to parasitic effects creating sneak circuits thanks to the magic of alternating current creating rotating magnetic fields that in turn translate into other alternating currents on other wires where they don't belong.

I was just trying to help by pointing out that the big feature of another rumored Prime is LTE-Advanced.

Oddly enough, many people in the cell phone industry think that LTE-Advanced is somehow more important than the best possible GPU experience.

I have no idea how they got into their heads that it might be a good idea to combine the two or how they could possibly think that LTE-Advanced is a good idea when we don't have it yet.

(If you think I didn't see what I just did there, ok.) :D

Of course, I could be wrong and the whole interview with LG could be a hoax.

Btw - really surprised that no one has zeroed in on the fact that the new T-Mobile G3 is going to have the 805 and 4/64 for only $75 more than the 3/32 model. It's getting announced 9 days after the main one, and available for immediate delivery on that day.

Haha, keep it coming!! Right?

Lol this is thread has no border.

Btw are you getting the phone? :)

As far as I know it is, in fact.

- first, how do you know, if I may ask?
- second, initial cost for R&D of putting in a new chip w/new architecture is quite high and should be taken into consideration;
- third, cost does not have much to do with the version/pricing/naming conventions. It is quite possible that LG pays less for 805 to QUALCOMM than for 801.

Whoa whoa WHOA! Stop the clock. Are we believing for certain that the 805 is happening? Between the snark and sarcasm, I can't always tell. I have a very hard time allowing myself to buy into this.
