Root "Low on Space" warning....

ok so that feature is called apps2sd (not to be confused with a2sd) this only moves part of the app to the card. the rest is still on the phone. also when you use it, any widgets associated with that app will not work anymore. a2sd moves the entire app to the card only leaving a symbolic link to tell the phne where to find the app on the sd card. to truly have plenty of internal space is to use a2sd with a faster card. when i had my og evo i had 200mb free internally with over 150 apps on the card!!!!!

yes you can. if you look near the top of the forum page there is a blue strip with links to all kinds of stuff. one of those links is the link to your User CP click on that. this is where you can edit your info that appears on your member page and also when you post. you can put the info on your signature or in the device section.

Thnx Ocn for pointing out the difference. i admit that i missed that there was a difference in what i did and what i can do with Dark Tremors apps2sd and the built in a2sd.

Looking around the net for DT downloads i found a few interesting notes about the possible consequences of DT that makes ME wonder if it is for me since i do not have nor do i use the apps that i have downloaded as much as some people do.
Do i understand you correctly that that what you call "symbolic link" might be called ( in other words ) " a short cut to " the app therefore still works if one calls on it to "load"? Clearly you did not use these words but sometimes when i and i would guess others, like me, read these help replies there is almost always a hole of " not knowing for sure " what the instructions mean "totally". i am not a big fan of people telling me that i am like them but sometimes i am like them and they are missing a complete understanding that you guys have who patiently help us who know little except that we like, maybe even love our phones. ( After 9 months i am not sure that i "love" my phone as much as i did back in the beginning; i still like it enough to want to make it better.
That said i want to find out the needed and requested information about the ROM and kernel that i am running so i know what to do about/with DarkTremors.
So, once again: what is the best way to know which rom and kernel that is running my EVO? i generally go back to that first post reading until i find what you guys recommended and walked me through perfectly....i have no complaints about the rom/kernel update that i made but at some point i have to figure out if the "problems" that i have with my EVO are related to the change or related the phone it self because i have had a lot lesser cell phone that by far outperformed this EVO in the most basic of needs; a phone. As that it comes pretty close to stinking.

How can one ever know if it is THEIR phone, the network, or the ROM/KERNEL? i am on the edge of transferring to a low end but new phone to see if there is a difference with the network.

Any thoughts on that matter?

Most ROMS today have DT built in. On the Home screen tap menu>Settings>about>Software and most ROMS will tell you what they are in there generally under build number or under software number. To find out if it has DT built in you will need to read the ROMS OP check the change logs. As far as the articles you've read and posted here I can only say do it right and there is no issue.

Most issues with DT involve a couple of things 1 issue I have seen is users trying to flash DT over itself. Meaning it was already burned into the ROM so when flashing it. The flash caused issues. Another major issue with DT is really users knowledge of how to use the program. While it can be a little intimidating at first its really not that hard to figure out and really just let it do its thing. One of the other issues that come up with DT is really a bad SDCARD or a Bad Partition. If its a bad partition usually a format and repartition will solve the issue if a bad card then only a new card will resolve the issue. And the only other problem I have seen with DT and perhaps maybe on of the biggest is really peoples understanding the difference between DT a2sd and Any Apps2SD in the market. Apps2sd stores small bits of the application on the SDCARD replacing that information with a "Short Cut" so that the program will know where to find and store the information again. DT uses a symbolic link and while both a symbolic link and a short cut may look alike to most users they are very different. A symbolic link really redirects the ROM to the location. Its a pointer where a Short Cut is an instruction complete with map on how to get the rest of the information. The difference between the two are 1 how they work and 2 how much space is needed for each.

My best explanation of the difference between symbolic link and a Short Cut.
Symbolic Link is like driving down the road and a sign points that there is a bump up ahead and to veer left, A shortcut is a sign that points to a bump in the road along with a "Detour" sign. The Shortcut explains to you that you are to follow the detour signs until you have reached the predestined area that states you are safely where you need to be. (Map)

As you can see from my example the symbolic link is much shorter and easier to follow unlike the short cut that tells you all the information you need to be able to arrive on the other side of the road. A much longer list of instructions which in turn use more space' (this isnt exactly how they work but I think I painted a good enough picture)

As far a signal goes there are a few things you maybe able to do to help with that. 1. update your PRL and PROFILE. Menu>Settings>Update>Prl/Profile.

Check your Radio and make sure you have the latest. - NOTE: Have at least a 75% charge on the battery and make sure nothing interrupts the update. Do not pull the battery during the update.

Check with sprint see if they are doing work on the towers. If you get a crappy signal from home then ask them to send you an airave.

ok so here are some points to your post:

1.everything that argedion said is correct. for most issues with DT is either user error or an sd card issue. i have never heard of DT being the cause of any issue.

2.and as for symbolic links, i will leave that alone as again argedion's example is perfect.

3.to find out what rom and even kernel you are on go to settings>about phone>software and the info should be there.

4.and lastly, it will depend on what the issues are before we can determine what is at fault. just think of it this way, if it is a software issue then it is most likely the rom or something that can be easily fixed in recovery. if it is hardware then it is your phone. if you have network issues then it could possibly be sprint's.

Hey OB,

Just getting back to these issues now.
As I mentioned above I've been trying to deal with these killer headaches. Turns out I was being treated for migraines which I didn't have. The medication they gave me started shutting down my liver and poisoning my blood. I started losing my sight and speech and couldn't think straight. Not completely back yet but I'm pushing myself to do things as mind exercise. It may take me a while to get this done but I am determined to get better.

Well that is messed up! Man.

Did they ever figure out what was really causing the headaches?

Hope you get better soon!

Yep. The medication they gave me for the headaches stopped my liver from processing protein. That caused my blood to go toxic. There's no way of telling how long I've been poisoned. Now everyone is apologizing.
Do you think that there's a malpractice case here?

I don't know man, I'm not a lawyer. :(

Are you going to get better now that you are off the funky meds?

I can see some improvement but not sure how long it might take or if there's permanent damage.

My friend said it best: If you want to be well don't go to doctors.
