Man, this is a big phone

I went from a Samsung Vibrant to an HTC Evo 4G. Yes, it was a bigger phone but I got used to it rather quickly and wouldn't give up my Evo for anything now.

Just my $0.02

Zooo ....hahahahahha..

and while I got used to the size

So you did indeed get used to it. Point proven.

Do we lose sight of the fact of the fact it's a big phone? Of course not. For some of us it's a selling point. But has it ever been an encumbrance? That extra ounce of weight or fraction of a square inch requiring Herculean effort to lug around? I would venture to say no.

But hey, all this speculation is just that. When the phone's out, check it out. In that respect, this is no different than any other phone that has ever been released. If you like small form factor phones, then get a small form factor phone. My point of all this is, I just don't see the Galaxy Nexus as being dramatically larger than anything else out there. If for example someone is in my shoes of owning and enjoying a Droid X.. I see this as no different.

You also have to figure that it is lighter than the 4g lte phones out now so that will make it feel smaller than it is also.

When the larger screen phones started coming out, I kept looking at my Droid and thinking 4" is big enough. But then I started playing with them more and more and really loved the bigger screen. Also, like someone else posted, my phone is more of a data and multimedia consumption device than a phone, so the extra bulk is worth it for the screen real estate. The GNex will be my first official big screen phone and I'm sure despite the size I'll appreciate the screen and just get used to the size.

I completely agree with you. I would say a lot of us are coming from the 4" generation thinking 4.65" is a big jump but I do think we'll get accustomed to it.
Before I got my SGS1 I thought (coming from 3.5") that 4" was too big. Now, I could never like anything smaller.

Plus, I think they're counting on the thinness of the phone to greatly affect the way we view the size of the Galaxy Nexus.

i actually have two of these phones. one black hp veer and one white. ;) love the lil' buggers, but i can't support a company that doesn't stand behind it's products.

in any event, it'll be quite the change going to something extremely small to this behemoth, but i'm looking forward to a new toy (i know... that's what she said).

I'll probably still get the phone anyway, but I am quite bothered by the size. I did get used to my Droid X, but I would have preferred to stay at that size or smaller. Most reviewers seem to be using two hands, which would be awfully inconvenient for me.

Don't worry about the size if you are coming from a DX. The GNex is practically the same width, and a little thinner, though it is a bout 1/3" taller; I don't see why you would need two hands to hold it.

Coming from a Droid Bionic, the GNexus doesn't seem much bigger.

GNexus= 5.33 x 2.67 x 0.35 (135.5 x 67.94 x 8.94 mm), 4.76 oz (135 g)
DBionic= 5.02 x 2.63 x 0.43 (127.5 x 66.9 x 10.9 mm), 5.60 oz (159 g)

I guess I should have put the measurements compared to the DX on my previous post as charlie310 did when comparing it to the Bionic. Anyway, here it is:

GNex = 5.33" x 2.67" x 0.35" (135.5 x 67.94 x 8.94 mm), 4.76 oz (135 g)
DX = 5.02" x 2.58" x 0.39" (127.5 x 65.5 x 9.9 mm), 5.47 oz (155 g)

Keep in mind that the VZW version of the GNex is rumored to be a little thicker than the GSM version, but I still think it will be thinner than the X, or at least pretty close to the same.

Bilbo Baggins won't be able to trick Gollum with the old "What have I got in my pocket?" riddle if he's got the SGN in there. It's not that much bigger than my DX but that phone is already close to pushing the limits of my pockets. Might have to get a manbag to carry it around in.

Don't forget about the Samsung Galaxy Note at 5.3-inches. :D

And THIS is my next Potential Phone. I am used to bigger phones (Dell Streak 'phoneblet' as an article combines phone and tablet). I personally have been 'bitten' by the screen size bug.

I tried using an old HTC Tilt recently and can not get used to a smaller screen and won't purchase anything less than 5" if possible.

So, its' true, it depends on what a consumer likes and prefers if the size is desirable or not. :)

If you want to get the best hands on for this phone just go to AT&T and hold the Samsung Infuse the OVERALL length of the Gnex is longer than that. This phone is way bigger than the SGS2. My brother in-law has the infuse and it dwarfs my phone....for me its way to big...a cool device to just have....yes, a daily driver.....I don't think so, my brother in-law is huge and it looks like he's talking to the bottom of a laptop.

The infuse is also wider than the nexus which with the nexus being taller but skinnier it won't feel as large.

Yeah but is that a good thing? The one thing I like about the Infuse is the balance..... it LOOKS cool. Its has a nice kind of "TV" look to it. I know its as minor as the Captivate vs. The Vibrant, but the more Iook at this phone the more my gut just says goofy. My other brother in-law wanted this phone real bad but even he is second guessing himself after seeing how long this phone is.

It may bring balance but it also makes the phone feel larger than something that is longer ans skinnier. I think the curve of the nexus will help give some balance and give a good feel in hand.

I'm in the same boat as your brother in law. Those on screen buttons basically mean that future ICS phones will never have anything larger than a 4.3" usable screen. Also the the way the buttons have been implemented makes it look like part of the usable screen has been cut off. When you put it in landscape mode the phone looks lopsided.

no shit. i posted it for comparison and illustrative purposes. if the Note can easily be pocketable - so can the Galaxy Nexus.

Easily pocketable means nothing. If you can't straighten your leg out and from that video you see he didnt move the leg that had the phone in the pocket? yeah exactly it is still a huge ****ing phone and getting it in the pocket is one thing, being able to comfortably walk around and not look like you can't bend your knee is another.
