Root [Merit] Complete ZTE Merit Guide: Root, Flash Recovery and Install New ROM (with links)

After "adb shell", you don't need to type adb, as it is not a binary on your device. The shell operates from within your phone.

EDIT:
Upon closer inspection, remount and push are done outside the shell, from cmd.

okay so to be clear once I get down to "adb remount" I DO NOT have to type adb remount, just type remount? and for the command prompt once I get down to after the reboot do I open a new command prompt or keep it the same inside the Tools folder?

So I kept the cmd window open from steps 1-13, but for the remount I opened a command prompt inside the tools folder where the su file is located, but when I type remount it says: "'remount' is not recognized as an internal of external command, operable or batch file" am I doing something wrong?

Edit: I GOT IT! (I think) I just downloaded superuser, am I supposed to do anything else to it?

You still have to clean up. After Super User is running download Root Uninstall & get rid of the stuff you want. Go back to recovery & wipe all the cache. Use Link2SD to get more space. You may want to do a backup before & after Link2SD.

Okay I downloaded root uninstall and when I open it, it only lists the apps I've downloaded not any stock apps, and what is superuser used for? I opened it and under the apps/log sections there is nothing listed

Edit: my bad, anyway how do I get to recovery and link2sd is that something to download or in superuser or rootuninstall?

Go back to recovery mode. It is done from CWM. Turn the phone off hold menu+volume up+power until you enter recovery. (I think it is up but maybe down) I can't remember what each one says but you will go to a second menu that is where I wipe both cache files then go back & backup. Backup takes a long time(seems like it was about 45 minutes). After your done select reboot.

Download Link2SD from the app store. It has been a while but I'm sure I used. CWM to partition the SD.

Let me add the disclaimer that I really don't know anymore abut this then you guys. I'm just sharing the info as I understand it from this thread & passing along the great info that was given to me by Motorhead & other users of this form. In short research everything I'm telling you. It is all in this form.

I did something wrong and it lost everything and now it keeps saying Sorry! the application android keyboard (process com.android.inputmethod.latin) has stopped unexpectedly. please try again.

When you say you got it you do mean your running the one.three rom?

Thinking back I had to hold on the screen(where you ever text) & select input. It gets you a basic keyboard that you can enter text till you download the one you want. I like Touch Pal.

You're doing great kingmt. On first boot of a ROM, a factory reset is almost necessary to remove the leftovers from stock. Sync your contacts and data with google then continue with the following instructions.

After gaining root, flash the CWM recovery image, boot into recovery mode by using the button combo kingmt mentioned (vol up is the right button) and back up your stock ROM in case something goes funny. Now factory reset and flash whatever ROM you like.

I don't know how to run a rom but I tried to get into recovery mode but it reset and deleted everything, I tried rooting it again but it won't go through

The rom is basically your operating system. It should have been pushed onto your SD card & CWM installs it. The tab says something like update zip.

Motorhead
Thanks. I'm trying to give forward from all guys have given me.

Going through the menu button, the apps I had deleted with uninstall app are deleted, but it no longer lists superuser or uninstaller, does that mean I have to redo the rooting, or just redownload the apps? and also what's the recovery and flashing? I'm still so new to this I have no idea what Im doing.

Plug your phone back into your computer, get adb going and type: "adb reboot recovery". After you get into recovery mode, select "install zip from sdcard", find the one.three.zip, select it and choose yes.

If you do not have CWM recovery yet, follow the directions in the first post.

I just opened clockwork mod for the first time and it says under the recovery section "flash clockworkmod recovery: you must have clockworkmod recovery installed to flash and restore ROMs!" or "reboot into recovery: boot into recovery mode for manual management" does it matter which one I select? and I don't understand what it means in the first post bu recovery.img where do I find that?
