Root [MetroPCS/CDMA] [HOWTO][ROOT]Automatic Root for SGSIII

its so easy to root though, and totally reversible. why not root, flash a custom rom and you can have jellybean without waiting

Silly question -____- I don't know why I'm asking but do I need to have access to the internet in order to use the program to root the GS3? I ask because I know some programs require an internet connection to work and download files and whatnot. If everything works out for me and i do get this phone I was going to root it at work using my laptop in stead of waiting to get home.

no idea man...i can tell you to avoid using usb 3.0 ports...my laptop gave me a blue screen twice...switched to the regular 2.0 ports and it worked fine

How would i reverse it?

if you're only rooted, i believe you only need to uninstall the superuser app and do a factory reset. if you have flashed a custom rom, you can flash this stock rom http://androidforums.com/metropcs-g...oot/640679-stock-metro-stock-rooted-twrp.html and then delete superuser and factory reset to unroot

im still a noob at this so i might be mistaken, but i think thats how you do it. hopefully someone will chime in if im wrong

Oh, and no Internet needed for install. Once you have the files (either from downloading or transferred viaa flash drive for example, the entire install is done offline.
It only needs Internet access if you're trying to reach the developers for a much deserved donation.

Thanks, I'm going to use Skip Soft's GS3 tool kit instead when I get the chance.

I did not use this root method myself so I'm just stabbing in the dark here.

If the pc reads your phone I don't think you need any more drivers.
Make sure you unzip all files. Running anything in zip will keep files from seeing each other causing errors.
Make sure you have all other usb ports diconnected. something like a mouse and keyboard is fine but anything else might confuse the script. Also make sure you're using the cable that came with your phone. Not all are created equal.

After the OTA update last week, I no longer have root. No big surprise there. Is it safe to reapply the automatic root after the update? Has anyone done so yet?

Kernel version is now 3.0.8-1195373 dated Jan 19 2013.

I need help. So I open the .bat file for rooting my S3 (Metro PCS) and I proceed to root and follow the prompts and press enter. It takes me through all the directions but doesn't actually root it, help!!!:confused::confused::confused:

It might be because of that update the other day. Might have to wait until there is another root kit that will work with the new kernel they sent out with the OTA update...it sucks because I was goin to root my phone too until I found out the jellybean update will kill the root

This worked for me. I did install the OTA. Just keep trying I guess, I just followed the steps like I did the first time and everything went well.

ok i have a little issue here... dl'd the root toolkits and uhh.. yeah lol only found 2 dll files in a zip folder... no 7zip package, no bat file.. did i do something wrong?? :D lol

So, did this root method work for you, ldrifta?
I'm just wondering, because of the increased failure/difficulty reports I've noticed scattered around as of late...

yeah actually it did :D it was kinda my own fault for the error.. even though the directions said to use 7zip, i just normally extracted because it was a .zip file not a 7z file lol, but sure enough got everything going, was super easy haha

on a side note, i love the ui of twrp, but i ended up switching to CWM (user-preference i guess)
