Can anyone give me some hints as how to make 10.1 less laggy? I've looked around and tried everything, but there doesn't seem to be much out there on 4.2.1 :(

Kernels, yes. Roms also yes but needs minor changes. In fact I'm on one called morph right now, that is from them. I wonder why they don't make this subforum metro/usc. It seems like both sides can benefit from the other.

If you want to use one of their roms just switch out the apn.config.xml file in the system/etc folder. I also swapped the lte apks in the system/app folders just to be safe. And if you want change anything containing usc in the buildprop to mtr.

this is probably a stupid question, but just to be clear...just unzip one of those roms and replace that file with the one out of a metro specific rom? or replace it after its been flashed?
 
guys and all the gurus , i have questions i dont know where to put but since i am on CM10 i thought i will put here....

1. my battery drains so fast ( in 2 to 3 hours, is there a fix to it) even if i am not using the phone in 4 hours it will come from 100 to 10 percent

2. i am travelling to india in 4 days and i was following a (make your phone global thread out there) so that i can put a sim card abroad but i am not successful, i dont even get a global mode, anything i am doing wrong or will the fix not work on cm10 , as i see they have shown the fix on verizon galaxy s3 and touchwiz

3. for the wireless tether it works without password in open mode the moment i do wpa or wep it does not.. is there a resolution to it

i know i am throwing all the questions here but answers are much appriciated for this newbea to the android world

1. Your battery should not be draining that fast. Period. It may be that some application is causing a conflict that puts strain on your device causing the CPU to demand unsustainable levels of power from the battery thus draining it completely in 2 to 4 hours. Have a look in Settings −> Battery and check the different percentages reported for usage by the different apps.
Otherwise, what steps have you taken so far to mitigate the problem? That would probably help with diagnosing where the problem might (or might not) lie.
When you say you are using CM10, do you mean regular CM10 (stable? Nightlies?) Or CM10.1? CM10.1 is at best in the early alpha stage, as far as I know, and not recommended for daily usage, unless you know how to work around its kinks.
What kernel are you using? Stock? Linaro? Faux?
Is your phone overclocked? under/over-voltaged? What other performance tweaks have you attempted?
Answering those questions may help us in identifying and/or guide you to a sane resolution.
For example, not knowing the above leaves me with little else to suggest besides the so-called "nuclear option" of formatting the device and reinstalling the rom. (wipe cache, dalvik, System AND data)... and then reinstall everything from scratch. If that don't fix it, then not a lot will ;)

2. To get into global mode, you need to go to Settings -> More settings -> Mobile Netwoks -> Network Mode, and select UIM mode (as opposed to Nv mode). Nv is CDMA, UIM is GSM.

3. Are you using the stock app for wireless tethering, or are you using something else? PDANet? Wifi Tether.apk? Wireless tether for Root Users? Open Garden?
Using the built in stock tethering app works (almost) flawlessly for me, and I do have a WPA encrypted env. going (I am actually using my hotspot to send this right now...)
So, let us know your setup, and we'll try to chime in with some suggestions.

First suggestion I'd give you though, is to not be afraid to start a new thread with your questions, so as to make sure it's easier for you to follow along, then staying in this thread, because as you have yourself pointed out, this thread is CM10-specific, and some of your problems are not necessarily reliant/related to CM10.

So don't be afraid, and we're behind you cheering you on! :)

Any other issue besides listening to music threw bluetooth being so low?

I see something about iccid being annoying not showing up..

Anything else. Cuz I really want to run CM

let me try answer back the questions put by tiede, my galaxy s3 from metropcs is my first effort to sincerely move from iphone to android

1. battery was really in a bad shape and after reading the comments here i got a lot of pointers but the easist one for me was to reflash the rom with datawipe, yes i lost my home screens and settings but now i have been listening to music for last 6 hours and i am only down to 30 percent from 100, so wont compaint and move on but i think as i put more widgets on my home screen the problem may come back but will see....
also i am on cm10.1 with latest build of jan16, i tried 10.0 and my keyboard always keeps on crashing
my kernel version says 3.0.57-cyanogenmod-gfbd5138 blinky-ghost if that helps, i dont know how to flash kernel and if that will be helpful, i have not overclocked my phone and i am also using juicedefender and so far its helping

2. i did follow the intructions to go and try the global mode and i get to the option of selecting global mode but it does not stay there and keep on saying evdo/cdma and i dont get any signal, may be there is a sequence i need to follow, for starters i will take this to a thread outside but if someone can verify that they are able to put the metropcs galaxy s3 to global mode and make calls using att, the phone info app does show my att number and i have att apn selected from apn manager but no signal and when i try and manually search for network it comes with an error has occured.

3. i am tring the inbuild wireless tether and i have similar result as i mentioned that it will only work in open mode with no security and the moment i put it back to wpa or wpa2 it will try and connect and fail, any comments , suggestions and help would be a bonus....


BTW... you guys are really good and fast... one of the best internet help forum i have experienced till now.

That's sucks... But yea same issue with me as well. Other than that, is not being able to use WiFi tethering apps. The stock one works but doesn't seem to transmit very good signal.

That's weird my MMS is working and I am on the latest cm10.1. But yeah tethering does not work very well yet
 
Is it possible for cm10.1 to slow down my 4g download speeds? On stock ROM I would normally get about 3-4 mb DL and 4-5 up. And one area in town I would get 10mb download and 8 upload with cm10.1 I get no more that 2mb download even when close to that fast tower. My upload speeds are consistent with the stock upload speeds still. Any thoughts

I believe the Stable version is for cm10. We don't have cm10.1 stable yet. I checked their website to verify and no stable yet for cm10.1.
