Root MIUI - Working Data & SMS. . .

...About 2/3 of that is already provided by third party apps and/or custom roms..

Won't it be great to not have to worry about using those 3rd party apps and having it baked into the OS, though?

From Twitter it looks as if everything, including data, is working. Then when he flashes the build data breaks. Sounds as if something isn't compiling correctly to me. Vicious is getting rather frustrated. While it'll be cool to run ICS, IMO, there's no benefit in running ICS MIUI vs GB. Its still going to look/function the same. CM7 vs CM9 is where us TB owners will se the most differences and, as much as I love MIUI, that's what I'm really, really looking forward too :D It may even keep me from buying the Nexus depending on how quickly we see it and how well it performs

So the quad core phones leaking out aren't keeping you from buying the Nexus?

LTE + ICS + Tegra 3 = nerd boner

He did also mention a GB build that was going to be up tonight. Hopefully with improved audio, if it's a ROM thing, still not sure if that's a MIUI thing, a ROM thing, or kernel thing. MMS would be nice, but I can wait.

Lol I'm with you there :D tho I wont be buying anything that can't be unlocked. Really scares me there is no s-off for the Rezound yet. Hopefully its not the start of a new trend :(

I am really far from an upgrade, and as I said before, I will probably putting my $$ towards a transformer prime, maybe after the holidays when there is enough soak time to see if it will be a well supported device and to see if it has any issues. I will most likely be using the bolt until this time next year, and by then, who knows what will be going on in this space. That may even be enough time for Verizon to get a JB nexus, or at least have one announced.

So I flashed MIUI yesterday from CM7. I have some mixed feelings on it. I think overall, it runs smoother then CM7. I was having odd speaker issues w/ CM7. My headset would only come out of one speaker, my audio through the speaker when on a phone call was all garbled and a few other things, but those were the biggies for me. I do feel like MIUI is smoother and seems to be a little less buggy besides the MMS issue, however, its taking some to get used to.

-I don't like the lack of app drawer, and I know folders work, but still....

-I can't get the damn wallpaper to be clear and clean like in CM7 or even sense. Following regular wallpaper dimensions for TB is what I used on CM7 and they always were nice and clean. I can't get that on MIUI. I use my own pictures I take and would just re-size and it would be very nice, but now they still come out blury and re-scaled.

-My audio issues are a lot better on MIUI

-I can't really find any good themes. Everything is so blunt/colorful and almost Mario Bros like. I like the minimal themes and things to be clean and neat, I feel like this ROM is so busy and colorful bt can't find any good themes to satisfy my taste. I'm using the theme section from the settings menu. Myabe there is a different place to find different themes.

-Why can't I get the "messaging" app(I use handcent) off my screen? When I go to throw it in the trash it tells me I cant remove system apps...ugghh!

-The ROM overall seems a lot smoother and has a lot of cool features which is helping me hang on, I just need to figure out some things I guess.

Sorry for the rant and I have tried to look for answers on Rootzwiki and XDA but those damn threads are like 1000 pages long so it makes it tough, but I'm hoping some people can point me in the right direction.

It all comes down to need vs want for me. While I want a Nexus on Verizon and ICS, the phone hardware itself is not that impressive, IMO and I don't need a new phone. I'm hoping CM9 and MIUI will keep me happy enough to wait and see what's available Q1. As Brizey said, I also am interested in the Transformer Prime. It has gone to the top of my device wish list.

I can afford it, it's just after thinking about it I'd rather buy the TFP instead.

edit: just read and watched The Verge Nexus review. I am now torn on which device is at the top of my list. I may have to use an upgrade to get the Nexus and still buy the TFP. I have another upgrade available in June and I think I'll be happy with the Nexus until then.

Try the link below it's an app that creates an app drawer for you. You will still have to hide all your icons in a folder somewhere though.

Something has changed with this last update to MIUI that is causing this issue. A workaround for now is to use MultiPicture Live Wallpaper.

This is going to sound harsh and I do not intend it to be but, you're not looking hard enough. There are a ton of themes available, the problem is that they are not all in one place. A good start is probably at MIUI US forums.

Since there is no traditional app launcher you will have to place it in a folder.

The regular launcher doesn't look right when my density is set to 185, though. That right there is a no-go for me.

Definitely with you on the transformer prime. I've been holding off on a tablet, but I think I'm sold. Thing looks amazing!

Look at the link I posted above. It is a 1000+ page thread on XDA of people showing their MIUI setups. I bet you will find something you like there. Also, try looking at deviantart. Just put MIUI in the search and you can find a ton of stuff that is a bit more on the artistic side.

you=me. (Except you really need to get Amazon Prime, lol.) I want to get my money's worth, and I think I would get a lot more out a sweet new tablet than a phone that is just a little better than the one I have right now. Plus I think she-who-watches-the-credit-card-statements would slap me around if I bought another phone already, lol.

If I had time to watch and stream a lot of videos I would jump on Prime in a heartbeat. To me, the only thing I'd gain is the free 2 day. While that is great, I usually have very good luck with shipping on Amazon, as evidence by my tweet the other day.

I'm really torn between the phone and tablet. Maybe if we had someone tweeting/reporting they're working on CM9 for the TB I could eliminate the phone, but that hasn't happened :( Also, with it being the Holiday season I'm having a very hard time justifying spending almost $1,000 on myself on devices. I guess at this point I should stop thinking about it and wait for release dates then make my decision.

I just flashed MIUI 1.1.4. I'm very impressed. Great ROM. I now notice the Top Bar shows I'm receiving 4G. I'm not in a 4G area that I know about, unless they are testing it for our area. Nearest known (to me) 4G area is about 20 miles away.

Is there a way to find if my phone is indeed receiving 4G or not?
Just curious.

Have fun with this great ROM.

Try a speed test. The 4G icon is still messed up as far as I know. For me, "G" means 4G. I haven't seen my 3G icon so I don't know what it should show

If its themed it shows 'G' no matter what unfortunately.

I really like this ROM, but with all the updates we're still pretty much where we started.. no MMS, icon is screwy, extended phone settings FC probably 50% of the time, audio still sucks.

Realistically I could be on the 'settings fix' version and be in the same position.

I guess I'd just prefer to see fewer updates with more progress, than more updates and really no noticeable changes. Not complaining, just saying. I definitely appreciate all the time they've put into this so far.

I agree completely. I follow Vicious on Twitter and I still don't know what the newest version is. It's confusing. I think he feels he needs to keep releasing shit to stay relevant. Like he released a new version today and he's already talking about how he's working on releasing a fixed build tomorrow, along with an ICS version.

I wish he would just hold off, fix everything THEN release it. It's beyond confusing the way he's going about it now and for that reason I'm still on the 3rd stable release.

Have you flashed the newest version, any complaints other than the obvious 3? (settings, 4G, MMS)

ICS 2.0 is up. Fixed WiFi and tethering. Speaking with Vicious he said someone fixed the 4G icons for him and he'll have a patch sometime tomorrow. He says ICS is "faster and much better than 18" It's a full wipe so I won't be flashing tonight.

Exactly, a week or 2 and then release an update would be fine. I ran the 'fixed settings' version until I updated to '17', which is where I am now, and I can't tell a difference. I tried the updates, but always restored since new bugs seemed to pop up that were previously fixed. Everything that was working, still works, everything that was broken is still broken. Make sure everything is in order then release. I get the feeling he's rushing and little things are being missed.

With the new build, the full wipe doesn't bother me, but not using MIUI Backup is gonna be a bitch.. Guessing too many framework changes that get screwy, when restoring.

MIUI proper is released weekly, so there is new stuff every week, whether or not it fixes anything in the TB offshoot.

I loaded the ICS miui and must say stuff loads fast. I agree on the releases though. Get the stuff that needs fixed first.

The point is that if MIUI is a moving target. If he doesn't keep merging in the mainline changes, he may do a fix that doesn't work with the most up to date mainline version. Ultimately we want all the TB specific stuff worked out and for DV to just be a click away from merging every week. That requires two things--fixing the TB stuff and keeping up with the mainline.

BUT...he could probably drop a week or two and concentrate on the fixes.

There may never be a mainline version. Look at CM7, it only went as far as slayher took it.

If there's nothing officially supporting the device, why not pick a version get it 100%, and go from there. I don't think anyone cares about it being the most up to date.

I hope that Vicious will understand that he needs to take a week or two and fix everything that doesn't work. Who cares if we aren't synced up to the mainline. If everything works, I don't care.
