Root [MOD] LG Esteem 720p @ 30FPS (UPDATED 9/5/12)

my personal opinion is... i think were mising something.. not the build.prop line bu like some other apk or file that needs to be modded along-side this apk.. possibly even the boot.img (but i doubt it lol) in my years of modding & theming i've oticed many roms (GB included) have only one apk for camera yet we have & need the 2 provided..

also lots of 'other' people with 'other' devices have had this mod work successfully to no avail.. and im more than positive they only have 'the 1' camera.apk file.. and seeing as how metro themselves are in control of how the system is modfied (Not built) for the device maybe they did something to mess with us and possibly restrict cool mods? lol again i doubt it.. specially since like 1 out of 5 of you guys got this thing working..

sadly im not one of em lol..

but i also never experienced that whole 'rebooting issue' a lot of you were having, so my mentality is take the good with the bad.. lol

but on a side note: since i have a lil more free time (kinda..) i def want to contribute to getting this thing working properly!!!

so what i NEED!!! is the specs.. like what is actually required for this mod? and what exactly is it modifying? (i know it tha cameraapp.apk but like which files and why?) so this way it'll give me a slightly better idea as to if i need to dig a lil deeper into the actual system.. we could just be missing something silly, or maybe even my rom just doesn' want this to work HAHAHA

martin714.. i know we had this chat already lol, but if you personally can dig up the absolute most amount of information on/about this mod than I promise i will try just as hard to help ya out ;) this mod is 100% worth adding to any rom as long as it works flawlessly, so that is our goal :D and whomever else wants to contribute feel free lol but consider me in!!

great to know ur trying to help on this but from wat we know it can be the camera.apk tht needs changing as well or if not there might be something in some things tht supports it or something in build prop idk its very weird tht some ppl got it working and some dnt

i wish i could remember where.. but i remember reading something somewhere about camera mods or something and there a file in etc folder needed editing.. but we dont even have that file so not sure what it would do or anything.. lol but like i said before too how are you guys getting it to work lol

lol well one things forsure i heard tht cm9 would come with the camera set to 30fps already or just add the fps as 30 on the build to set it right

Always wondered why there was 2 camera apps. Even though I always deleted the camera.apk and left the other one. ?
 
So I flashed this and it worked on #2...Sort of. Flashed it and took a short video, transferred it to the computer and checked the properties and it was 15fps. So then I used the build prop line, rebooted too a short vid transferred it to the computer and checked the properties again, this time it recorded at 30fps. So then I got curious. maybe it was just the build prop line that worked and not the actual mod itself.

Well I can tell you this, the build prop line does nothing without the camera mod flashed. But then the camera mod doesnt work (fps wise) without the build.prop line.

Moral of the story, you HAVE to HAVE both the camera mod and the build prop line or else it does not record at 30fps.

It would be nice to have this mod built-in with CM9... but I'd rather have this mod working on the ROMs we already have. The ROM on my phone works - now.

I didn't have the build prop line so I went and added it and installed the camera again. Nothing.

i second this. i think this is one of the most important mods to our phone. it sort of 'completes' it, in my opinion. ive always felt held back by the 15fps, and i would just seriously bust one if i got it working on my phone

thanks to this esteem community for tryin so hard to get this shit working!
 
here's a lil piece of interesting info.. lol

when experimenting in the past (with the esteem) i tried adw as the stock launcher prior to flashing, so when installed adw was the first and only launcher and had all it's preset apps layed out on the homescreens..

well one of these apps is "a" camera app with no icon.. just like the default i have no idea what this is icon lol so me being me i clicked it anyway and opened up "a" camera that is not our default camera.. as if it was from another device or something but it had like a different layout for it..

almost as if it was accessing the extra camera.apk we have in our system.. i never really looked any further into it but was strange.. so maybe that extra file is somewhat more important than we thought..

jus sayin.. :D

I too have the"extra" camera apk. It has better image options but is a bit cryptic to use. But unfortunately it won't record above 15 either. I believe I got this from Beastcandy #2 theme.

I know that Beastcandy was a port from something else.

Don't know what that all means.... Lol!

But...if your getting the error from the normal camera ,the com.android.camera still functions without issue...that is strange huh. It seems like there is another way to the hardware(camera).

Aren't we all. What I'm trying to get across is this. If you were to try this 30fps mod and it doesn't work and the restore zip doesn't work and your normal camera is trashed from the mod. The com.android.camera STILL works at stock 15fps. Why and how idk.
If and when this mod is functional and stable I would be inclined to throw the dev a donation. Time is money and I respect that.
 
I got this to work. No hassle at all. I first moved my O.G. Cameraapp.apk to my ext sd card as a backup. I then extracted the new cameraapp.apk. Copy and pasted to system/app rebooted and BOOM DONE! I don't think i can explain it simpler than that. Root Explorer was used.

I must be a moron then cause I completely forgot to try the most logical and easiest way first. Dude your a genius.
 
Factory data reset, erased internal sd, fresh install of #2 v2.1, flashed, cut, copied, pasted, cleared caches, cleared data, attempted install.....

No love at 30fps.

I will continue to follow this thread.
