Root [MOD] LG Esteem 720p @ 30FPS (UPDATED 9/5/12)

Just tried this also on a fresh install on my spare.. No love.. Stats are identical to racin's.. Used es file explorer.. This is starting to seem like the over clock issues as far as every esteem is different.. I'm down for testing whatever though..

I've literally tried every single way possible. I've even torn the apk apart and edited shit myself. I just dont know.

well i forced the error on my own last night and i tried a lot of ur guys methods and wat worked for me was i flashed driftas #2 rom then performance used the regular camera tht comes with the rom for like 10 secs then closed the camera app didnt touch my phone for 10 min then i did the camera mod manually by first copying the camera mod apk from my ext sd card to sytem/app after tht was done i moved the original one to my ext sd card then exited rebooted and bam it worked once again liike a charm ;) im thinking wats screwing up the mod is a certain file which im not sure out of all them which one it would be now my big suggestion for ppl tht got it to work is to back up ur phone while its working and if it breaks u can always just restore it from cwm other than tht im sorry for all the ppl tht are not able to get it working i nvr thought there would be fails on other ppls esteems but a fix will soon be found im sure of it:)

OMFG i got it to work!!!!!!!!!

I've been struggling with the "unable to extract frame" error. All I did was mess around in my text to my lady, I was recording a video (I did not launch the camera app, I did the record video thing from within SMS) and it launched a DIFFERENT looking camera. I was like um wtf?? So I recorded one. It was 30 fps, but it was SHITTY resolution. So I tried to change the resolution in the lil settings area on the camera, but it was greyed out. I thought wow thats weird. So I launched the ACTUAL camera app afterwards (instead of the one within SMS), and I went to record video. It let me change the resolution to 720p, and it worked in recording 30fps 720p video :)

Can anyone else try this and see if it works for them??

edit: okay it broke a few hours later for no apparent reason. this trick only worked that one time and im thinking it was random. back to unable to extract frame.

Now... if someone could figure out how to get this mod working for the rest of us. Has everyone else given up on this too?

So, like everyone else, I've been getting the "unable to extract frame" error. Randomly on rare occasions it will actually record at 30fps, but 99% of the time I get the error.

The other day, I was playing around with the virtual memory heap size, going back and forth from 48 to 96... I randomly tried the camera and I was able to record at 30fps... so I immediately booted into recovery and made a backup image (ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.8). A few hours passed, and I began getting the same old error, time and time again. I tried changing the heap size again, but no luck. I went ahead and tried restoring my backup image, and the camera worked! Later I created another image when the errors yet again returned. And so the experimenting began.

So far, all I know is that by doing an advanced restore of the data only in Recovery mode, my camera will record at 30fps (restoring the boot, system, cache, and sd-ext is not needed). For me, this has been successful 100% of the time, but eventually the errors always return.

Obviously this is a hassle, as I don't want to lose existing data each time I want to record video. I've been paying close attention to monitor what I do with my phone, to see if anything triggers the error... but so far, it just seems to eventually just happen.

Maybe in the next day or so, I can just copy both data .tar files to my pc and compare file differences?

Any help is appreciated, I would love for reliable 30fps recording! It is the only thing I don't like about my esteem, and I feel like soon it may no longer be an issue.

Yeah I would love to narrow down the issue but I think the issue lies in THIS mod itself. The mod needs to be redone. I think we can have a 30fps camera but it will need to modded correctly.

With that being said after seeing the videos people uploaded at 30fps and seeing my videos, which I also posted in this thread, I can honestly say that I am happy with how my phone records as it sits. The quality is above par and the framerate is very smooth for what it is. Therefore anything above what I have now will only be better but until then I am very content. My videos are somewhere in here if anyone cares to look and then compare. :)

everyone does know that the com.camera runs in the background right, and also has a receiver with the lg camera app for "camera button pushed" even though we dont have a camera button, just a shot in the dark, but you think this could be a problem for our camera?

I don't think the problem lies in the actual camera app at all... well, perhaps not entirely, and here's my logic:

As I stated earlier, I made a backup of my phone when the camera was working, and made another backup when it gave the error. Restoring only the data in ClockworkMod recovery restores the camera to a functioning state 100% of the time... the actual CameraApp.apk is in the System portion of the backup image, NOT the data portion. There must be an external factor/setting or something interfering with the operation of the modified camera app.

This is proving to be very tricky.

Not knocking on the OP's mod, but has anyone went and actually looked at the mod itself. We dont know if it's the phone or if the actual mod was done wrong. I personally think its something within the mod that isnt right or is off somewhere.

For some reason I was thinking you already tried / did that.. probably out of my skill range.. would it be as simple as compiling the apk then doing a comparison? If so, then winmerge is an awesome open source gui side by side file comparison tool..

Honestly I have no clue what it entails. I thought Ldrifta was checking it out but idk

Definitely out of my skill set if that the case.. hopefully if I can get the diffs between the two posted it may make sense to someone.. been wanting to disassemble some things for awhile now so at least I'll learn that part :)

Hehe yeah.. looks like a b*.. been all up in Google.. think I got most of what I need (dex2jar, JD gui, smali, backsmali, etc) for the easy part.. things came up tonight and time is limited for now.. if it comes out right I'll post the code differences so maybe someone can see what's wrong.. Just a classes.dex and resources.arsc (still gotta Google the arsc :) )

I dont know if anyone else noticed this....and its probably nothing but.....after i get the "exact frame" issue I close the camera app and if i put up the back of the phone where the camera is to my ear....there is a slight sound...kinda like like click...please dont waste time "welcoming" to AF, lets just fix this thing. Ive already been here before.

Welcome to AF iphoneslayer! Glad you could join us! :p:p:p:p:p

Im *almost* positive that is the camera trying to auto focus on start up of the apk then the extract frame thing pops up. I know what youre talking about and I get that sound when taking a picture too

well sorry for being so late on this info but the people tht looked into decompiling the cameraapp.apk the things tht were changed were

Values are:
setVideoEncodingBitRate
setVideoEncoder
setVideoFrameRate

setAudioSamplingRate
setAudioEncodingBitRate
setAudioEncoder
setAudioChannels

*face palm* UGH yeah yeah......anyway. I looked at it my self. Only works for me after I do a fresh install of "Broken out" esteem (with no theme). It will run and work in till i turn off my phone, it will reset and give me that error. I haven't had time to really look at it in depth. Im thinking its not "saving" to the setting of CameraApp.apk.........UNLESS (cause ive noticed that now neither of my "cameraApp.apk or Camera.apk will install like normal if i just DLed the apk and ran it.) it screws something in the mechanics on the phone, like the physical lens of the camera.(if that makes any sense) So that the camera will run in till it turns off then during boot it will reverts itself.....cause ive also noticed that after i boot up my phone the first time after flashing it it boots really really slow and when it boots after i turn it off it again boots very very slow but never after that. I'll look at it when i have more time, hopefully someone figures it out. Looks like we got a good bunch of guys on here so im sure someone will be able to crack it.

Oh i had to re-read this......Na man it happens after i close the app. Its not the auto focus cause it does it AS the app is closing.....try it for your self try to film something then when it gives you the error...put the back of the phone up to your ear and close the app. It makes a internal click sound not from the speaker when you take a picture....unless im out of my mind and going insane from working all the time.
