Well what a backup utility does, is it backups your data onto your sd card, and then when you put the sd card back in after upgrading it restores your info. I think there's also a way to back everything up to your computer, so you can do it that way, but I'm unsure how to do that.

Ok I downloaded an APP called "On THe Fly Backup" and then was able to download all APPS installed to the SD card............so next step is to go to the store have a tech do the upgrade to 2.1 and then put the card back in and upload all my Apps again hopefully .

If you have a custom recovery the easiest way i've found to back up is to boot into recovery (vol down, call, end) and under data click backup (this is for your data aka settings and apps installed not residing in the /system folder) and also system (the root of the phone which includes stock apps and such). Obviously if you are updating the system your not going to want to restore that, but does come in handy for mistakes made when customizing the /system folder and subfolder. More importantly the data backup is what your going to want to restore after updating your system. This will bring back your market apps, settings, etc. If you want to store them on the pc after you make the backup take a look at the restore option to note the file name of the current backup (if more than 1 exist) and make a note of it. Boot back into android, connect the usb and mount the sd card so you can access from the PC. Depending on the version of the recovery your running the path differs slightly but the backups are stored under the sdx folder. Copy/Paste and voila. Android backed up to PC.

Trying to update a friends Moment on the same computer that I updated mine from

I get to the update stage and get e-dll cannot open the usb serial port. code:87

I've tried rebooting, reinstalling DL software, running as admin, on phone under settings, applications development USB debugging and Stay awake on, I even tried w/o Stay awake on.

Any other ideas before we have to take this over to the Sprint store to update?

I'm running W7 on my cpu

roxbomer....I still use 1.5 no problems on my Moment .....can't be bothered with all the confusion to upgrade...there MUST be an easier way to do this..

I hope there is a tutorial on how to flash or cause ive never done it before

Me? I am wearing these now...:D

I dont know if anywone knows yet, but ver. 2.1 for the Samsung Moment is available for download through Sprint. To find out more and how to download visit Koroe Technologies blog.
BTW, 2.1 is NOT Froyo 2.2 is and that won't be available for the Moment until someone ports it to it cuz samsung and sprint don't intend to supprt it on the Moment.
Good first post HEHEHE. No one here knew that before you enlightened us.

I read though the post but didn't see if anyone asked about this in general so excuse me if it has... But has anyone done a comparison of the offical 2.1 release compared to the SDX release? I FINALLY got the text from sprint saying the offical release was available but have been running the SDX release for months... More or less just curious to whether it's a significant enough change to "upgrade" to the official release.

Auuuggghhhh!!!

Trying to update to 2.1. Downloaded the executable file from Sprint. Followed the instructions. Simultaneously pressed the Volume Down, Camera, and End keys. Got the "Downloading / DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!!" screen on my phone. Connected phone to my laptop with USB cable. And....

My laptop doesn't recognize the "mass storage device" -- in other words, it doesn't recognize my phone. So I can't get any further with the system upgrade. The install wizard (or whatever it is) keeps waiting for me to connect my phone to my laptop, not recognizing the USB connection.

Grrrrrr....

Any suggestions. Or do I have no choice except to go the usually inexperienced and inept employees at a Sprint store?

Simple answer is it wouldn't be to ur advantage to do that...
Interesting...

This sparks a question: I plan on upgrading with the official Sprint update. Would I be able to switch to the SDX version if I choose to?

And what are the differences anyway?

Still running 1.6...... :(

Your running 1.5 and yes you can go back and forth. The only reason to go back to stock though would be because you have a warranty issue.

Why would you still be on "1.5"
DE03 is still stock and is 2.1
And why a custom ROM (rooted) better battery life and WIFI tethering for just a couple of benefits. Not to mention Live wallpapers etc.etc.etc.

I want to upgrade to 2.1 (stuck in 1.5 now), but I have not done a backup before. I'm sure I can follow the instructions and do it, but I still have a question.

Supposing I backup to the SD card, then take out the card and flash the update. When I put in the card and restore the apps, will the passwords to those apps still be retained? The phone knows the passwords, but I don't have a backup, and I lost the e-mail account that some applications were tied to, so I may not be able to recover the passwords that way.

I'm such a n00b, but if you don't ask, you don't get.

Most likely the passwords will not be retained. Best to figure it out now and place it somewhere safe, like keepass. Pay now or pay later.

Hi, I tried to upgrade my spica, the process was ok, except for after rebooting, the phone displayed the 'triangle icon with phone in the side' and hang up there.i continue the process until the window display says ""<1> pass,,, <0> destroy instant,,,, <0>killed timer.
i think this was the last procedure.then i unplugged my phone and restart it,
the problem now is, my phone only display the word 'samsung' and the loading bar. i tried it 5x, same problem
btw, i used the I570EDDJB2 firmware.

Then someone suggested using jb3 baseband version. I found and download for jb3 as per suggested.
however after removing SIM and SD Card and put the phone in Download Mode, i connected the spica to through the usb cable.
previously there were no issues and i managed to proceed till the last step. However, this time I've tried to reconnect many times but only the SAMSUNG USB Composite Device appears under the universal serial bus controllers, the SAMSUNG Android USB Modem is absent from the modem. I've also tried downloading the pdanet but unable to work as it requires me to change the phone settings to enable usb debugging but i cannot do so coz the phone got stuck at the samsung logo with the loading bar page. Are there any possible solutions you could kindly suggest? Pls help.

Many thanks.
