Root Network connection issues

well - i may have screwed this up but I left linux and came back to windows. went to the htc dev site and repeated the process and got the token accepted. now i just have to figure out if 1. i can pick up in linux where i left off and 2. how to get the .bin file into the right folder. switching back to linux now. wish me luck

Cool -- just try opening your email with the attachment through Linux and then download to the appropriate folder.

Fingers crossed for you.

Well - success. I want to thank all of you - you've been great and that includes Mike. You led the way. My observations on the way the overall process is implemented (not here but elsewhere) I'll keep to myself. I will say just this - there was no need for it to be so difficult.

For those of you having trouble just pm me and I'll help if I can.

ok - one last hurtle. I got twrp installed and flashed omj's rom but after the first splash screen, there's the boot animation, then a white htc screen and it hangs. I went back into twrp and rewiped everything - twice - then a factory reset and reinstalled the rom and same thing. It's late and I've been at this for 8 hours so I must have missed something. What did I forget?

I've tried opening a command window by right clicking folder while holding shift key. This has worked every other time. I'm pretty sure I'm doing this correctly. I get the same 'fastboot' error. I deleted and reinstalled sdk tools. Same results.

I dl'd the latest twrp and tried renaming it and putting on sd card. That all works but when I get to bootloader, it say image can not be found. What should I be renaming this file?

I tried the goo manager. It will supposedly dl the file but I never see it installing.

Re-commence f-bombs.

Edit: through bootloader, its saying 'wrong image zipped'

I may be wrong, but are the drivers properly installed? I ran into a similar issue when drivers for bootloader were installing and got cut off.

I assume everything is ok. Last month when I unlocked the brand new phone twrp installed without any issue.

Is there anything I need to do specifically right after getting s-off? What should I be renaming the twrp file to? Be specefic.

First off, make sure your device has enough charge. That'll prevent the device from picking up the file.

The file has to be named exactly PJ75IMG.zip and placed on the root of the external SD card.

PJ75IMG (all caps like that). You can install it in the ext sd card by pulling the card if necessary. Once you have it renamed properly then when you boot into bootloader it will automatically recognize it. Make your choice of what to do - yes/no by using the vol keys. Once installed you need to remove the file or every time you boot into bootloader it will try to reinstall again

Im around 90% on charge.

Here are my specifics.....

Folder on desktop named EvoLTE. In that folder is sdk tools (zipped), and the twrp recovery file I dl'd. I hold shift and right-click the cursor on EvoLTE folder and select the 'open command prompt'. From there I copy and paste the fast boot command. Then I get the fastboot error.

Do I need to unzip the twrp file? Do I place that file in the EvoLTE folder or in another folder within the EvoLTE folder (such as sdk folder)? Do I need to unzip the sdk file?

when in bootloader and trying to flash via sd card i get the following-

sd checking
loading........ [PJ75DIAG.zip]
no image!
loading........ [PJ75DIAG.nbh]
no image or wrong image!
loading........ [PJ75IMG.zip]
no image!
loading........ [PJ75IMG.nbh]
no image or wrong image!
loading........ [PJ75IMG.tar]
no image!
loading........ [PJ75IMG.aes]
no image!
loading........ [PJ75IMG.enc]
no image!

Just to be clear, you're not right clicking the actual folder icon to open command window, right?

You should basically have the folder OPEN. With the folder open you should see the window with the list of files inside (with the bootloader.exe. file among them. Now inside this window, you need to hold shift and right click a blank part of the screen (but inside this open window) and opening the command window here.

Its not the issue of opening the command window, but the issue seems to be opening the command window in the right location.

EDIT: I'm assuming you're using Windows 7

If you have the TWRP file as a PJ75IMG.zip just move it to the root of your SD card (not in any folders). Make sure it's not named PJ75IMG.zip.zip Windows hides extensions by default, so if you've never changed this option, it should look like PJ75IMG when you see it in windows.

From there power the phone completely down, then boot into the bootloader, it should see the file and ask you to update by pressing power up.

If not, you may need to relock the bootloader and rerun that portion of the Unlimited.IO guide from step 6. Although I don't think that is necessary at the moment.

that means you are naming it right. it needs to be PJ75IMG exactly make sure that you are not adding extra .zips to the name.

Got it, finally.....

removed all previously dl'd sdk, adb, etc... files. installed fresh to new folder. ran fastboot command 300,000 times then realized something. i was copying the command from the rooting guide thread. had to add some characters. was using :fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1-jewel.img:

had to change to :fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-jewel.img

may need to update the thread?

Dood, pure awesomeness!!! :D

Thanks for the heads up on the typo too. :o;)

Last but not least in the words of the famous Ocnbrze:

"NOW GO GET YOUR FLASH ON!!!" :p

I still need to update my radios and all that junk. Then I'll be flashing like a mofo.

AWESOME! Glad you got it sorted out. Yeah if I ever have to flash anything using a command I change the file name so instead of "fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.3.1.0.zip" I'd rename it so I just have to enter "fastboot flash recovery TWRP.zip". I'm a big fan of keeping it simple when possible. I don't think those are the proper commands, but just an example of making your files easier.

That's great Mike. I know you'll enjoy it just that much more having stuck with it and succeeded. Let us know what ROMs you're using and how you like them. Thanks again for the inspiration. Wouldn't have started it without you going first.
