Just curious about your recommendation, don't people have issues with the Amon "style" recovery vs. the original Amon ra recovery?
I mean, if that works for you, great, but is the original more reliable?:)

I'm not sure how many people are having issues. Yeah, I know a few on this forum don't recommend AR Style but having used this since it was released, I haven't had an issue. So, take it for what it's worth, I believe all the positives I mentioned far out way the negatives.

No one is forcing you to try or use something but in my experience of flashing hundreds of builds, kernels, making nandroids, restoring nandroids... No troubles here. I would recommend this recovery over the original AR recovery everyday;)

I also have been using this since its release and really one 1 issue and that was restoring from a compressed recovery. A cache / dalvic wipe cleared it up and no more issue. I don't compress anymore but I have a 32 gig card and only keep at the max 3 on there at one time. Space is not an issue. I use it, I recommend it. Like Andy The positives far out weight the negative.

Can't argue with that record.:):) (100's of flashes etc.)
I just thought I read somewhere issues with the "style" type.
All is cool, all is cool...thanks:D

Seems like common sense but, just to make sure, if I were to go from Amon 2.3 to 3.11 I shouldn't have any problems with previous Nandroids right?

kernel question... i see lots of people talking about the anthrax kernel. i have also seen a lot of talk about sbc kernels. is this anthrax an sbc? also, how do i tweak the kernel after i flash it? Thanx for all the help guys

p.s. when flashing kernels, do i have to rename to pc36img? i can't seem to get a straight answer on the renaming thing.

Anthrax is not sbc....I tweak it with setcpu...kernels come in zip form and flash from recovery after wiping cache and dalvik...no need to rename anything. I use the Anthrax kernel...the other 2 sbc kernels for sense did not work for me.:D

Anthrax is not a sbc kernel and to adjust settings and change governors people generally use SetCPU or Rom Toolbox, apps found in the market.

You don't need to rename the file for kernels, just make a nandroid, wipe cache and dalvik and then flash.

Check out the kernels section in the Rooting guide, there's also a Kernels guide. Sorry I don't have the links, I'm sure someone will come along with that for you.

The 3.08 version of Amon-RA Style recovery is what I've been running, it's all good. It was the TWRP recovery that some folks were having issues with, IE = BRICKS!!

One evo I run the OG Amon-RA 2.3 the other, the "Style" version. Both are good in their own right.

I had some issues with nand restoring with the Amon RA style recovery and had some strange issues a couple of times with backups that were made on RA 2.3 not restoring correctly. I had a MikG backup that restored without a lock screen. Another time a Deck AOSP backup lost my google account somehow and no matter what I tried, any app updates would Force Close the market for me, leaving me unable to update anything. At that point, I ditched the new version and went back to old reliable aka RA 2.3. I have only had one issue with it to date....I made an ICS backup that hung after "optimizing system" but I figure it might have just been an issue with Deck PB 23 or something. Hard to say. But that is really the only issue I have ever had with RA 2.3 It's not broke, so I'm not about to fix it.

I use Rom Toolbox to make my kernel tweaks but there are bunches of apps out there to do it. SetCPU is kind of outdated IMHO. There are other apps out there that are free and do a lot more. The Pro version of ROM toolbox is well worth it. Full CPU control, font changes, boot animation/battery mods, ad blocker, root explorer built in...it's very nice. But I would also recommend System Tuner (lets you undervolt if your kernel supports it) along with a host of other stuff. Or No Frills CPU is supposed to be good (and it's free). Just don't have 8 different apps trying to control the CPU. It can cause you more harm than good.

Do you know if the free version of Rom Toolbox offers root explorer? I was trying to use it to access something and it keeps FC on me, wasn't sure if it was b/c I'm on the "lite" version or if there was more to the FC.

It shouldn't fc because of that. Try fixing permissions

On the PC now. If you didn't know, you can fix permissions by

In recovery (amon ra) go to Other and select "fix apk uid mismatches"

or

in terminal, type "su" (without the quotes), press enter and then type "fix_permissions" again without the quotes and press enter.

or you could alternatively down ROM Manager and do it through there. But that's absolutely the only thing you should ever consider doing with ROM Manager.
