Root Newbie having trouble with root

ooohhh yous mention this now :(

whats the best all round rom then?

ive managed to get my apps back through appbrain so id be up for trying to install a new rom

Well you could always give GIngervillian a go, sounds like it's redux with some extra little bits in it.
I'd try to get titanium backup working first though so you don't have to re-download all your apps over again.

No 40MB probably won't last you long.
If you create a EXT partition then you won't have to worry too much about memory for a while.

i thought the ext thing was only for linux?

also if i wipe and istall another rom do i just download titanium backup again and it will remember my apps?

Its based on CM7. Redux is like oxygen, Gingervillain is like CM7

Ive been busy all day, got to spend some time doing other things.

Partitioning is quite advanced. forget about it for now.

Gingervillain is good. My favourite. Trying redux for a while to give it a fair go but I dare say i will be going back to gv

Do you remember when I first tried it and you pretty much helped me with every step. Thinking now, it wasn't that bad. Rom manager > flash recovery > set swap to 0, ext partition to 512, go.

all this security stuff or s-on/s-off sounds a bit too complicated at the moment think ill put gingervillan on and see from there

I don't understand why I'm getting the urge to go back to villian
LeeDroid 3.0 is very good, stable and fast with excellent DesireHD type text selection.
Perfect!

So why is Villian calling me back

It might be the fact that I know Sense is still there, burbling away and eating my memory.

You shouldn't have to be S-off for anything.
I've stayed S-on as default and can backup and flash ROMs with no problems.

Oh sorry are we talking about partitioning sd card? S-on is fine.

Thought we were talking about partitioning NAND

I'm S-ON and my phone has worked just fine with different ROMs supporting a2sd+ (including Redux).

Nand partitioning and S-OFF is something I'm considering at this moment.
