Root Odin (Return phone to Stock/Factory)

so i used oden to go back to stock. mainly because i wanted to use cm7 and it said i had to be on the ejo6. i was on the fa19 rooted. wasent sure if i could use oden to go to ejo6 from fa19. so i chose to go to stock and then reroot with ejo6. in the process of goin to stock i did something wrong i guess. the counter is now on 30mins now and still not finished. will it hurt something if i just unplug and start over? or how should i go bout starting over?

what part is it hanging on? if its the system or data partitions, there is LESS risk ... its when is doing the early steps that unplugging gets more dangerous.

edit-also, that is slightly outdated info, that was stated when the options were (gingerbread) ej06 or froyo (ed13 or ee14) i have the ff19 baseband and am using cm7 as we speak ;)

i believe the last thing i saw was it was on system. went fairly fast to get to that point. maybe 20sec in to get to system stuff. i dont remember seeing data. its on 56mins now. its been a while since i downloaded stuff. i need to go through all my stuff and get updated stuff.

NOTE-I CAN MAKE NO GUARANTEE THAT THIS WILL NOT RESULT IN A BRICKED PHONE. WHILE ITS CLEAR THAT ITS HUNG UP AT SOME STAGE OF THE PROCESS, IT IS DANGEROUS TO UNPLUG THE PHONE OR CLOSE ODIN WHILE WHILE ITS RUNNING.

I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE INCURRED AS A RESULT OF THIS SUGGESTION

that being said, you could try closing odin and then reopening it and running the image again. hopefully it will finish the second time. like i said, if its at the system stage there is less risk.

i wish you luck, and hope the gods favor you today. odin is a powerful tool. and things can end tragically if it 'malfunctions'

ok so i tried it. and restarted. nothing change on phone. still said download mode. but this time it never made it to system. 5min now and all it says is... start thread detected : 0 says that 5 times. and it says... setup connection. any last words of wizdom before i brick it? lol not too terrible worried. its my spair phone.

I tried to make one for the straight talk users see if this works..

DOWNLOAD ROOTED VERSION wwwmegauploadcom/?d=EHELYWKP

Evidently the FBI doesn't realize that they are interfering with me trying to root my Galaxy Precedent, or I'm sure they wouldn't have taken over megaupload com...but they did, so if it's not too much trouble could you perhaps make your Odin images for the Precedent available some other way? Thanks.

were is the odin download link

Looks like you are a new member so a little tip. Most of the time any DLs and/or Updates in a thread title will be in the first few posts depending on how Thread owner sets it up but usually the first one. In this case the Odin DL is part of the Odin images that are in the first post. If you just need the program and ops I can throw a link up for you.

EDIT: Program and OPS only

Use the version if Odin provided in the Odin image

And to remove the system apps dl titanium backup or root uninstaller.

You can't just select uninstall in manage applications, that's not how it works ;)

Ps- if you dl'd the newest image, and it doesn't contain Odin. Dl any of the previous ones, they have the proper version inside

Edit-your screen shoot looks like you found the Odin you need, but still use one of those apps. That is how to remove system apps the easy way

thank you.

i figured it out, the image didn't contain odin or the pit file, so i grabbed FE16 and used them from that.

root uninstaller worked flawlessly. now it's cleaned up and ready to go.

btw.. can i use odin to create an image of my phone once i am done, just in case?

Hi,

Yes, there is a "Odin-Repacker", made by Kouma........ It's a tool where you connect your phone via USB, start a .bat file on your computer and it creates all the images for Odin and copies them to your computer.

I searched around, but I could not find the original post or a link to it. Maybe someone knows where it is.

PS: If someone knows, let "Scary_Allen" know so he can include the link into the "Prevail Rooted Guide" !!! ;)

MaNiMaL to the rescue!

I fixed the root problem, it's in /system/xbin/su. But I replace /system/app/Superuser.apk as well. I just used the ones from the FE16 image and presto.

I'm putting together HAR2.MaNiMaL now. Sorry Kouma I'm just mod'ing yours.

If anyone would like to host it msg me with somewhere to upload it. I don't have cloud storage and not really interested in it.

Do you have the fix out somewhere? FF19 root still broke. I would like to know how to fix this.

so the link for odin is not working?
if that is the case just use a different root one and then flash the phone tar and that will give you the ff19 you want. you can odin any one and then flash all the diff tars to try all of them if you want.

He is saying it is not allowing every app that requests su to gain root access. Kouma said they changed something in the kernel.

But if you plan to flash a ROM it won't matter since the Roms have their own kernels

oh, sorry then i misunderstood, my bad. i see how that can be. thx.

I had this phone deactivated 9 months ago, since I get a free comapny phone.. long story short today I needed to get it going again, reactivated, rebooted, forced ROM update, BRICKED...
Right now it is working again and downloading some other update, and I will try to install it.. I don't need the phone rooted anymore, just need it to work, and don't have the money to go buy a new phone today..

Hopfully this update will install correctly, and I can get on with updating my Resume to find a new job..

I would send you some $$$ but with no job.. thats not going to happen.. But I did want to say:

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok so I am about to root my sisters Prevail. But I have one question before I do it. This Odin program, it's all I need to root the phone correct?

And I see the first download links in that thread are:
DOWNLOAD FF19 Gingerbread Rooted by Koumajutsu
&
DOWNLOAD FF19 Gingerbread Stock Image by Koumajutsu

but if you go down a bit right under DOWNLOAD FE16 Gingerbread Stock Image by Koumajutsu there is this:
DOWNLOAD FA19 Gingerbread Rooted Image with CWM5 by Koumajutsu
PREVAIL_M820_FA19_Rooted_CWM MD5Sum: 97b46a074e228b9daeca95a2c80715b4

DOWNLOAD FA19 Gingerbread Stock Image
SPHM820_FA19_Stock.zip

So I am a bit confused. Which do I use?

Well, if you have CWM ( Clockworkmode ) already, you can use the ones without.

I am suggesting to just get the PREVAIL_M820_FA19_Rooted_CWM and then the ROM ( CTMod3.68 with kouma kernel, or 187MoD or CyanogenMod 7 or any of the ROMS) you like.

I like CTMod, other guys like the cm7........... it's the personal taste.
