Root Odin (Return phone to Stock/Factory)

Well, not -everything- in the phone is open source. There are a couple drivers that are closed source and some Sprint/Boost stuff.

I think what they may be going after is files containing copies of Odin, since that's theirs, leaked, and not supposed to be available to the public

so is this why odin is no longer in the original post??? my phone did some wacky shit today, like insane amounts of fc's and random reboots... and i cant find the usb drive i saved it to! so yeah this sucks

edit - oh yeah, i just recalled saving it on my other hdd that i alternate in my laptop lol
i have one with only windows 7 that i use for movies etc (what im posting from now) and the other. a w7/ubuntu 10.04 machine i use for anything thats like WORK which is why odin is there

God its been a long long time since I've used this, but from what I recall Odin is included with each zip/link

My touch screen no longer works, it was hooked up to the charger and when i took it off the screen wouldn't do anything. Its the Sph-m820 and i have to send it back to Samsung so i have to have clockwork removed. I have tried using Oden but its not removing clockwork. the file i downloaded was the SPHM820_FA19_Stock from the top of this thread but clockwork is still on my phone. Everything else went back to factory but the recovery. Please Help

I have question. If my phone's build number is "GINGERBREAD.FF19", do I have to use the corresponding file to root my phone, or can I use the "GINGERBREAD.FE16" file?

Hi,

you can odin either one or any other baseband....... So yes, you can use FE16

EDIT : However, if you want Stock, go with FE16, if you use a custom ROM, you can use FE16 or FF19 !!!!

What did really work ? Rooting the Prevail ???? :)

Of course it works, there are super-dev's here who made it possible !!! Leave em a "Thanks" on their first post of their work !!!! ;)

thank you soooooooooo much it really worked unlike those damn posers out there

LOL. The fun has just begun for you my friend. Now you get to play with all of the custom ROMs that have been built for this phone and pick the 1 that is right for you. Enjoy! You picked a great phone with an AWESOME community. :D

so since ive got the fa19 and had to go through odin to get root that i can only flash certain roms?im a little confused, i just found my prevail after a couple years, ive been using a warp so this odin is all new

Fa19 stock rooted isn't 'fully rooted'
Once you flash a rom (any) your good to go. Samsung changed the stock kernel... But most/all custom roms have a kernel associated with them that solves that. If you intend on using stock, fe16 is the way to go

I rooted my phone and I now want to unroot it, but my computer says error couldn't detect the device. So something is wrong with my phone's USB connection. I was reading the thread (skimming) and I flashed the zip to uninstall CWM cuz I thought that it will return to stock factory. Basically, I want to unroot the phone but my computer doesn't recognize it, and I don't have CWM anymore. I've lost all hope please help.

The prevail isn't on the list of supported devices... using Mobile Odin will probably end very badly

Connect the phone to the PC, press windows key, type 'device manager'. Search the list for 'unknown device' right click it, select properties, select the drivers tab select update drivers.

The PC should now recognize the phone. (You may need to reboot the PC)

Hi,

BE CAREFUL !!!!!! I believe, "Mobile Odin" does NOT work with the Prevail !!! I am not 100% sure of it, so you might want to wait till one of the other great guys replies !!!! Not wanting you to brick your phone !!!!! Be patient, you WILL get a good answer.......

EDIT : LV already replied......... as always, he's faster than me ! ;)
