Oh man, they weren't joking with the 2-5x performance increase. The amount of things that run so much smoother with 2.2 is amazing.

points to be noted before downloading the official update:

1) note down the internet settings(APN or 3g) before installing
2) minimum space must be ther in phone memory(uninstall google earth if u have it installed .. :) atleast that what i did :) )

well atleast these were the bottle necks for me...

It's not memory card space it needs its internal memory.make sure you have at least 25meg free

oh is it?? but it says theres no space in the memory card.
will make some space in the phone memory and try again. thanks

I had this problem because I updated without my goldcard in. Thought I'd bricked the b@stard!!!! I was thinking about what excuse I was going to use to make a claim on my insurance!!!! Anyway, this is how I got it sorted.
If it has any relevance, my phone is unbranded, T-Mobile sim-locked.

1. download this : http://liveimage.htc.com/OTA_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8-1.21.405.2_release4dua3bcrut4wrv30.zip
2. When the download has finished, rename it to update.zip (be sure not to end up renaming it update.zip.zip !!!)
3. Copy the file to the root of your goldcard.
4. I removed the sim card, although I don't know if you have to do this.
5. Turn off your phone & turn back on with the down volume key pressed.
6. Navigate to "RECOVERY" using the volume key. Tap the power button to select.
7. Your phone will enter recovery (your phone will show a red triangle on a black screen) press and hold 'Volume Up' then tap 'Power.
8. Your device should now be at the 'recovery' screen. Select the 'wipe data/factory reset' option ***** You will loose ALL your data, but hey, at least you should get your phone back *****.
9. Select "Apply sdcard:update.zip" Your phone should then go though the update.
10. I can't remember if it will automatically reboot. If not select "Reboot" in the recovery menu.

I hope this helps some of you out.
Thanks go to several sources including Modaco & this site without which I wouldn't have been able to scrabble some sort of recovery.

currently trying this... having seemingly bricked my debranded, unlocked Orange desire... eek. These OTA updates really seem to suck balls with Orange phones, would love to know the rationale...

edit phew, seems to have worked...

All seems ok on my Desire.

It said error when backing up data before the first reboot but everything was still fine, the HD recording seems nice.

Got mine from CFW on Orange.

I am so jealous, does anyone know when the middle east will get the update? Not only do we lose Blackberry Service we get no update :(

Installed 2.2 on unbranded, unrooted Desire (UK version) last night. However, just found that there is a problem with battery consumptions. My phone was fully charged by this morning then it is now turned off due to flat battery - lasted 5 hours. As I use landline in the office, no single call was made. Definitely no internet usages either. Does any of you experiecing this issue?

still dont have any updates.. running 1.21-update1 on software version 1.19.707.7.. anyone from the philippines that has updated their phone to froyo?..

Hi Beans,

I'm from the Philippines, and I got my Desire updated to FroYo yesterday, Aug 1 2010. :)
Bought it from UK.

HTC did say the update will initially be available for Europe phones, so if you got your phone from Asia, you may get the update later.

Hey there.

My software number is : 1.15.110.11 and no update available so far. What should I do now? The only way is doing flash / de-brand the phone or is there any simpler ways to reach Froyo?

If anyone can help it would be great.

Anyone know how to access the FroYo voice dialling feature? I can't find it for the life of me. That was one of the 2.2 features I was most looking forward to.

My phone updated this weekend! (UK sim-free on O2 network).

Just a heads up though - anyone without a minimum of 25meg free on the phone memory needs to free up some space for the update! I only had 9meg or so free, so the update downloaded, then wouldn't install.

Also, the update restarts your phone a few times and looks like it has crashed - just leave it to do it's thing, don't touch it.

Once installed, App2SD is uber useful!

The camera seems slightly better - although I am not sure if that is just because I *want* it to be better so I am imagining it is..

Also, official flashlight LED app is included - nice!

FYI, Launcher Pro also works just fine with the update.

I installed 2.2 yesterday evening on an unbranded unrooted Desire on 3 and now I dont get any 3G. Any idea on how to add the settings again as I cant see anything obvious in the menus.

Edit: The 3 mobile APN was not ticked under network settings. Normal service resumed now :)

Im with Vodafone but thought that my Desire was unbranded as I have no Vodafone splash screen on boot up, there are no vodafone apps or wallpapers installed on the phone and the box was a standard HTC box (no Vodafone branding)

I have'nt been prompted to upgrade yet and checking for updates states my phone is up to date :(

My software version is 2.1 update 1 - 1.19.161.5

Has anyone with the above software version managed to get the upgrade or is it indeed a Vodafone software version which won't get the upgrade yet ?

EDIT: Just noticed I have an option for a Vodafone Scene in the menu meaning this version is obviously branded. Oh Well, wait or root wait or root wait or root decisions decisions !

still waiting for update since last night :D my phone has singapore version also.. do we have the same software version? 1.19.707.7?

Yes mine too is the same software version and still no froyo update. Any idea official word on this yet?

Bully, yep - I'm in exactly the same boat.

WS

EDIT: And I have NO Vodafone branding whatsoever.

I have an unbranded desire on the 3 network, and have the Froyo system update available to download. Can anyone provide advice or a checklist on what is sensible to do prior to starting the update process?

Simon.

I'm on 3 and did mine yesterday with very few probs at all.

I would just make sure of your APN settings (mine wasnt deleted but needed reenabling)
Make sure you have at least 25MB internal space.
Make sure you haven't disabled the auto backup.
If you are using LED Light 1.0.9 remove it as its incompatible with the Camera in 2.2
If you use swype it might be worth removing as I had to reinstall after 2.2
