everyone interested in 2.2 will watch that one. The same news was already announced in there. It makes no sense of having another thread about exactly the same subject.

I just don't want to look at an entire page of 'omg 2.2 is comming" and "will 2.2 come?" threads ;)

Same, if not better!!! its just because of sense UI apparently. Tell me about waiting, I have a hero, I am still waiting for 2.1, then got the desire, nw will have to wait for 2.2. Aaaaaaarghh!

This thread was around before it was mentioned in the other one. Please take the back seat moderating somewhere else. Ta.

Tweet from Google I/O (the official account) :
"Froyo will be made available to OEMs and the open source community in the coming weeks. #io2010"

Come on HTC!! The ball is in your court now!!

The 'official' thread was first and its stickied for a reason. And this is not backseat moderating, it was a polite attempt of using the official post which was created for a reason.

But as you are unwilling to see that and you continue to be ignorant I'm not going to touch this thread with a 10 ft pole.
Have fun.

Great. You take care now, y'hear.

On experience from the Hero if the update is promised 2010 then don't expect it until late 2011.

Yeah, I've been trying to be optimistic about it but honestly it wouldn't surprise me. I figured that HTC would already have had a build of 2.2 but from the announcements that have been coming out today, it sounds like they don't!

And on top of that we're likely to have at least another couple of high-end HTC phones in the next six months, which will probably take precedence over all the older handsets, Desire included.

The Evo is our best hope at the moment. Hopefully they'll feel a bit of pressure to get that running the newest software... it's pretty similar to the Desire in terms of hardware so what works for that, should work for us (hopefully).

So long as HTC take care to do the 2.2 update to the Desire right, I am happy to wait. The Desire is for me an excellent phone out of the box, and I would rather wait a few weeks or months longer for this major update than suffer the bugs which are likely to accompany a rushed release.

but you can see it's basically already the finished product. 2.2 also seems to be lots of small updates rather than a massive OS overhaul.... well.... maybe the speed boost is major, but even then, the way google present it makes it look like it's practically ready to go. The desire after all is just a nexus with an extra program running on top (sense)

I think the jump from 1.5 to 2.1 was very big, as in a large rewrite of the OS. But 2.1 to 2.2 isn't. So we should expect it soon I think.

To answer some other questions, if you have an unbranded Desire, then you will be pushed an update OTA direct from HTC, doesn't matter what sim you are using.

Also, 2.2 rules. It looks so sweet, and fast. I cannot wait!

I have an unlocked T-Mobile Desire and am using it outside the UK with a local provider's SIM card...Will I be able to get this and other updates? Does it depend on my provider?

jason freyo i mean 2.2 has been announced by google yesterday... but the one customized for htc desire n wen it will be available for us... no news abt it :(

From the user's POV, as shown by Google, it does indeed look like a finished product. I also have little doubt that the likes of xda-developers could probably come up with a 2.2 ROM for the Desire, Sense and all, ahead of HTC.

However, when you are dealing with deeply integrated features like HTC Sense (which includes additional multitouch support, among other things) it takes time and engineering effort to implement and verify the update properly. Plus, unlike hobbyists HTC has to provide (and pay for) support for every update, so they have a (financial) need to ensure that any update they roll out has a close to zero chance of bricking their customers' phones, unlike with custom ROMs where the user takes the risk.

Additionally, if Froyo has under-the-bonnet improvements that change how Sense has to work, Sense itself may need some reworking or further optimization so that we get to see Froyo's performance improvements as fully as possible. Alternatively HTC may also want to update Sense to take advantage of Froyo's new capabilities.

fiish... good post... Though discouraging, u made a point there.... also heard that HTC is planning the rollout of 2.2 in second half of the year... details are here

oh, i almost forgot, i have video sync issues in pretty much any video playing program, be it through the browser, sky news app, beeb player or whatever....

is this a problem that may be addressed specifically for the desire or does it look like this won't be addressed at all through 2.2?

and seriously, the second half of the year? -sigh-

Hi All just been reading up on O/S 2.2 on the register erlier this week it was saying the ofical relese of 2.2 is this week but i suspect we wont see any updates until the developers have chane to mess with it id love to see it sooner than later but ,,, well i think we will be wating a month or two vefore its offerd as an update :)

2.2 hasn't even been officially released yet so it will be a while. As the desire is still being heavily promoted I would think htc will want to push an update out as soon as possible but they have to integrate it into the Sense UI first. It will be weeks rather than days I would imagine.
