[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

I called cs yesterday to complain that sometimes I get 3 and 4 texts. The rep spoke perfect English, which amazed me. I asked him where he was and he's in Canada. I then asked him about the update.......he said we'll get it. I'm patient, but won't hold my breath.

What did he say about the multiple texts? I get them too.
 
Icarus is starting to sound better and better.. I've had this phone for a month, I love it.. Even stock and laggy.. I rooted about a week after I bought it.. I'm tired of waiting for froyo.. So I must ask.. How much of an improvement is Icarus over stock? I'm a father of two so money is tight.. It's a risk switching to Icarus regardless of how careful one is.. A risk I'd be willing to take if the improvememt is significant. (I am aware of the phone's hardware limitations.)
 
Here is the thing. If you make sure you've got a back up, You can always revert. Even if you have a warranty, They can't prove that you voided it if you restore it to the way it was. I'm not trying to say "Commit Fraud", I am saying though that I DO NOT believe Icarus to be harmful to the phone in anyways. So therefore I do not find installing it to constitute a complete void of warranty. I've installed Icarus 1.1, I've had no major problems and my phone works wonderfully. I honestly believe that if you just follow the instructions to the letter, Installing Icarus is very simple. Just continue to read up the threads about installing it, A well informed person is a better person!

One other great thing I noticed about Icarus 1.1 that I did not before. Under "Battery History" It used to use 90% just on running alone. Now, not a single one of my processes uses over 50%. This is a very nice improvement. ^^.

He did some wizardry, like a reset of my txt messaging? He did tell me that I needed to do the *228 when we hung up. Which I did, so far today I haven't had any multiple txts, but didn't have that many....so we'll see.

I got three of the same text the other day. Then again with Metro, Anything can happen.
 
hey guys I have a question and I dont know where else to post it. Im recently getting a phone from metro pcs and im choosing between the ascend or the Lg optimus M. The ascend comes with 2.1 and the Lg comes with 2.2.. Now when I held the phones the ascend clearly looked better but the Lg was better in terms of speed and less lag in the menus.. My question is whether the speed and lag is ONLY based on the fact that the LG has 2.2 and the Ascend has 2.1 or is it based on the phone itself.. If its based on the 2.2 then i just rather wait for the acend to upgrade to 2.2 and have a better looking phone.. If not, then what should I do? Also are you guys sure the update will eventually come?.. Thanks =)

Nobody knows for sure if the Ascend update is coming. It's still all speculation with no actual concrete proof. If it comes down to it, you can always root your Ascend to speed it up, and if you want to go further than that, look at the thread for the Icarus 1.1 mod.

I love my Ascend but it is a bit 'quirky' if you know what I mean.

Just last night I visited a friend who recently got the LG Optimus (I believe it was with T-Mobile) and I got to play around with it and it was nice in that it was smooth and had no lag / lack of responsiveness that I detected (in my brief time playing with it).

The Ascend was bought for me and I do like it but if I didn't already own it and knew what I knew now ... I'd probably get the LG Optimus.

My only concern and something you might want to check on is FLASH ... I've heard the LG Optimus doesn't "do FLASH" but my friend's did YOU TUBE which I thought was a FLASH thing (or is that JAVA)? So I dunno you might want to double check that. I dunno how big an issue it is (or isn't) but it's something I heard people bring up as a negative.

Im not to knowledgeable on phones and stuff so thats the best i can word the question.. and when rockstar said "root" is that short for "re-boot"?.. what would that do?.. As for the flash, I dont think the lg has flash.. but I dont mind because I use a I pod touch (which does not support flash) and I dont run into videos that I can not watch..
 
One more thing.. optimus V or optimus M? I know they are almost exactly the same except for the look but is there anything I should know??

From what I understand the programmers who wrote the code did not do so with efficiency in mind, and not only that, the phone itself does not have much memory and there is ALOT of extra stuff that is running in the background that slows the it down. Before I put Icarus 1.1 on it, my phone would decide every once in a while when I had a couple of apps that used memory, to re-boot itself in the middle of usage. I love this phone, but if you had a choice I'd go with the LG Optimus M. My girlfriend has it and it is much faster with less lag. As for "root" basically you have to hack/unlock your phone to be able to use it to it's full capacity. :cool:
 
I have the optimus m, the wife has ascend. Apps seem to run better on my phone than hers, and cause less problems. Plus LG has announced they will update the optimus line to gingerbread. But with that being said the ascend is a good phone and my wife, like the fine folks in this forum, loves it.

Also if you choose the optimus you will probably have stock 2.2.1 on it. That's a lot harder to root than the easy z4root way the ascend has.

Thats a pretty easy decision imo, if you want 3g, you'll have to go with virgin mobile. Metro doesn't have 3g.
 
I've done with before, roaming won't work on 80% of flashed phones.

Cricket just calls it Customer supplied device and dosn't care, just no tech support, but who can blame that. But for a few extra bucks, get the best phone or at least the best that I want, and put it on cricket. Then no matter what, I'll be able to do what I like and not worry about these silly things.

Example: Motorola Droid X has like 7-8GB internal instead of our 250MB, etc, and it could be a total Cricket phone if you wanted to spend.

Currently, those phones are too new to get decent prices on no contract used ones, but I did find a few for around the $200+ mark, so? But before I buy another Android from Cricket, I'm going to give this option some very SERIOUS thought.

The only danger, is if Cricket totally upgrades their system/service, then you would be sitting without their support to upgrade your phone, but I'm sure you would be able to get it upgraded again just may have to pay a bit...

Only my thinking right now....but def. a solid option.

The cricket stores are selling the phones with 2.2 already ? I call and was told they have sent all the phonesin stock to the manufacture 4 upgrades to a 2.2.Portland Oregon

You know what i did, and he didnt know how to do it, he told me to go online and look up info on how to update it, but nothing he even said that people have come in with the 2.2 Froyo in their Ascends but i doubt it was Froyo i think it was just a launcher with the 2.2 home design idk I've been noticing a lot of manual updates so im going to try to do that but i cant find the files i need, on the other hand i really want to try and get Icarus on my phone it looks better and seems to run faster than what our phones originally came packed with hmmm i just need to clear my SD card and im good to go haha

Hey why is it that my local store (cricket) is selling the phone with the 2.2 I ask that when can I get my update 2.2 no answer,gave me a corporate phone number.The store is in Portland Oregon the reason I mention this is we are gettin the update.So this means that we are getting it.Thank you.Call the store if you like too verify call the store

If they are selling a phone with 2.2, it must be the zio. Theres no way they could have snuck an ascend update in under our noses.
