[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

Fine for metro people, but cricket seems to have screwed its customers, looked on my phone for online updates today, and somehow that option is gone, wish there was metro where i live. It doesnt look good for cricket people.
 
Next time I get a cell, will look at the track record of how it's updated, from the carrier, to the manufactuer.

Cricket will get it too. If they don't, someone will port the metro version. There's a lot of smart people out there.

It is very likely that this is good news for Cricket customers as well. Metro did not write the code. Cricket has been telling customers that the upgrade will not be coming from them because Cricket doesn't write the code either. Neither carrier ever has. AT&T doesn't. T-Mobile doesn't. Neither Sprint nor Verizon do. The upgrades always come from the manufacturer. Putting pressure on Cricket may cause them to put pressure on Huawei, but it won't teach them to write software.

Need to remember that this phone has been out less then 6 months. For them to be talking about an update already is amazing. No one ever realizes that they aren't obligated to update it at all. We all knew the phone had 2.1 when we bought them. You don't expect car companies to give you a new model every year do you? It follows the same logic as the Delorean failure. If you have no need to buy new equipment, they make no money. I'm just as anxious as the next guy for 2.2, however I'm not going to bash the company for not providing my free upgrade on my time schedule.

I have my own thoughts on this. It seems that it has become standard in the Android phone market to provide updates, and I believe Huawei will. They know they will have a hard time selling the next generation of phones if they don't provide support for the current generation. I don't think they owe it to me though. It would be nice if they did, that would mean Microsoft owes me a free upgrade to Windows 7. (And maybe Dell owes me a computer that will run it, since my antiquated machine won't.)
 
I started reading this thread when it first started. Just about a week after me and my fiancee got our ascends with cricket. I have so hoped and prayed for the 2.2 update. Anything could make this phone better. My prayers were answered with Icarus. The way I see it, no matter what, if and when 2.2 comes, I will just wait for a 2.2 mod. My fiancee and I absolutely love Icarus. It really doesnt matter anymore to me. But if you guys want to fight for a 2.2 update, I will gladly fight alongside you guys. All of you that have posted on this thread, you guys deserve it!! But keep your heads up my fellow Marines, we will get it. I would bet my life on it. . .

Sorry, I am just really motivated today. Im sitting in the doctors office about to find out if im a 27 yr old with arthritis. Lol. I guess things could be worse. Always, always have hope,keep your head up and never give up. Later guys and gals.
 
Hmmm i have a feeling they will push this as far as they can and try to get us to buy new phones but to be honest Isaac seem to be in the goods with Icarus and if his update seems better than 2.2 will be forgotten lol i'm still hoping we get it but even if we dont im still happy with my phone and the Icarus ROM :) so it's either going to be March 28 or April 6 whatever happens happens

Anyways im now running icarus 1.1 mod, and i gotta tell you its amazing!!!! everything works MMS, DATA, WIFI the works.... I had no problem installing it...

I too work for Cricket...have for some time. Unfortunately Cricket doesn't have much influence over what Huawei does nor do we have any more insight than the general public.
 
I wouldn't trust any of these dates because I have heard many of them and of course they weren't true. After it didn't come in February people started saying March 16 and look at what happened. I guess I'm a little skeptical so I'll believe it when I see it.
 
if you really want 2.2.1 than try the Froyo+ at prepaid phones.net its a ok rom with few bugs " other than the UIM error that pops up from time to time" ive only seen it once though. so head on over rover out.:)

And plz give thanx to the dev's that made this possible and to me if you like the ROM that i suggested. ty ahead of time.
 
Hi, about the two videos you posted - uh, yeah - no.

The first was rather racist and the second - that person has a mental illness.

That said - we value free speech, but in the right venue.

Feel free to post those in the lounge - please add a cautionary note about you feel about them - clearly - or someone is bound to unnecessarily flame you. ;)

Well im running Icarus and I gotta say its faster and cooler lol runs very smoothly to be honest its better than 2.1 Eclair so while u wait for Froyo try Icarus for yourself but I might not even want Froyo anymore lol if u need help installing Icarus let me know ill be more than welcome to help u :) hope my opinion helped

Another thing to look at, if the company know everything which they might about all the stuff you can do with the ascend they would raise the price. And just think of this, the LG now comes with 2.2.1 right out of the box instead of 2.2, making it harder and more complicated to root your phone, and who know the reason they keep pushing it back they might be making a patch to stop all the rooting of the phones.
