[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

I'm no expert on this stuff, but the thing is, you need an overclock kernal to OC. Issac was using one by another dev that went up to 691mhz on his CM6 port, but he has abandoned that project. I believe he stated somewhere else that the fastest he had it stable was 710. I don't know if that is what he is using on his CM7 port or not, but there is no guarantee he will finish that either, since it is just a side project for him and he no longer even uses this phone. Unless some other phone genius takes up our cause, we are probably stuck with using the skyfire trick.

I downloaded the files, same ClockMod as for Icarus mod, and the froyo wifi zip, but I haven't tried the upgrade yet.

I couldn't really hear the vid, but I have a feeling this is the unofficial 2.2 ported from the chinese version. Sorry if I'm wrong.

I am curious about something. Why are people so eager to have flash on a phone with a 3.5" screen? I honestly don't get it. It isn't like the videos are going to be that watchable on such a small screen.
 
Today March 22, 2011 called my cellphone carrier MetroPCS to ask about the new upgrade for the Huawei Ascend M860 phone, I was on hold for a long time because they were trying to get an answer to my question which was a little odd because it seemed like nobody had ever called them to ask about the upgrade but they finally were able to get an answer to my question. They told me that the new upgrade Android 2.2 is not compatible with the Huawei Ascend phone on the MetroPCS network and that the only phone on their network capable of the new upgrade is the Optimus phone, so can anybody tell me if this is accurate information or that the guy I spoke to at MetroPCS just got tired of asking around and decided to made that up?

Honestly, As you've probably read, There is no way to "Verify" any of the information we are getting. It's just a "Hearsay" game right now. We've heard a lot of different things, Been told a lot of different things. Though I honestly think we are going to get the update, As it's been stated on the Facebook site for Metro Pcs. Huawei has also not stated that we won't get it, So there is no "Official" word that 2.2 is out of the question. They mentioned the Optimus phone at the Metro store, So to me that sounds like they may have been trying to upsell. It is true that the Optimus phone will be *Eventually* getting 2.3, As it is part of the Optimus One family I believe. Just be patient. ^.^
 
Well like I said before, I just called MetroPCS (technical support) and I was told that the android 2.2 upgrade is not compatible with Huawei Ascend on MetroPCS network and that the only phone they have compatible with the new upgrade is the Optimus, so can anybody confirm this info because I've been all over this Thread and I read a lot of information supposedly coming directly from MetroPCS which is very confusing so I really need some clarification.

Here is the problem. The upgrade has to come from Huawei not Metro. Since they have already released the update for the Chinese version, it means that we will probably get it as well. And the person that told you that 2.2 is not compatible with the Ascend is wrong. There are 2.2 ROMS out there now, but they have a few bugs. Now the Optimus does come with 2.2. Now Metro did put on their facebook page that it is coming out soon, but once again it is up to Huawei to release it. The phone is only a few months old and it takes time make an upgrade, and even longer to write it from scratch which is what the ROMS out there are doing. We will get a 2.2 from someone.
 
I agree. Eventually, as this phone is only like 6 months old, we will get an upgrade. Though, now it seems huawei is also coming out with an ascend II as of shortly, on the cricket network. I am sure that it will see metro shortly there after, since they are basically the same network. Also, the ascend II will also have 2.2 froyo as their OS platform... Will I switch to the second attempt? NO WAY! I love my 9 screens, and track ball... :D GO 2.2! GET IT OUT NOW! COME ON HUAWEI!

I am new to this and although I have rooted my Cricket Ascend and SetCPUed it, I want to get to that next level.... How does applying the Icarus Mod affect upgrading to 2.2, does that cause problems down the road...

Honestly, I just like Icarus because of how stable and fast it's made my phone. I likely will not be switching roms unless I find another one with the same stability and usage of full features. I won't be getting the official 2.2 due to the fact that it's going to be loaded with bloatware again and likely just as laggy as 2.1 was.

If you've got a good back up, You can install Icarus. Then if you don't like it just revert back to stock when it's time for you to try out the 2.2 update. ^.^

Imod is based off 2.1, It's just got minor changes and tweaks that make it more efficient.

Yea well I give it untill April and then ill forget about Froyo but the way Isaac is changing Icarus it might replace Froyo for all Huawei Ascend owners :) and more MODS will come which is shibby and if 2.2 isn't out for us hopefully someonw rearranges app codes for us to be able to use them :)
 
I agree. Icarus looks better and better! Isaac did the best work with that OS... I am seriously almost going to do the mod... I love my phone, and am very tired of the laggy laggy 2.1... I can just imagine how bad the 2.2 distro will look on our phones! If anything, will slow it down with old bloatware BS!
 
Good luck. Let us know how it goes. I believe i will be rooting/moding my phone this evening to try icarus. Jazz and the others have finally convinced my its a good alternative till froyo happens for crickets ascend
 
ive been gettin text messages from cricket saying "New features on your cricket handset. You will receive a prompt for a FREE software upgrade soon. Your widgets will be reset." They started about 2-3 weeks ago and have gotten a text about every week since.. Guess it might be coming soon?

Wow. Sure sounds like it. I haven't gotten anything like that. Maybe they learned from the zio update and they don't want to do everybody all at once.
