[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

Is anyone having issues with duplicate text messages and reappearing notifications for messages that have already been read. I'm running the CYM7 (Android 2.3) from 5-14 on my Ascend and I have MetroPCS service. Any ideas on a fix?

its not the rom that causes this, its the carrier, i for one can vouch for that and its a common issue, check metro's facebook. Also dont install and 2.1 sms.apk to 2.3 it will mess you good...

How incredibly true. Metro has been kicking that date for 5 months now, and watch JUNE 6th it will become June 26th..and so on. If your looking to keep your Ascend and want Froyo go with CM6. If you want Gingerbread then go with CM7. Both kick major butt.

As for me, well i am shopping for a Droid X, or EVO 4g to flash over to metro. Sick of crappy phones, why not get one that kicks butt

Before you buy one, make sure you have a store that will flash it over for you. I bought an Incredible and have been fighting with Metro for almost a week now. It says on their website they'll do it but the corporate store near me said they can't. They are so untrained.

I got a store called Flashed Androids buy my house and all they do is Flash Androids from Sprint and VZ for use on Metro. A fully flashed Incredible, Evo, or Droid X generally goes for 250-300.. If you bring them a phone to flash then its just a 50.00 charge and they said it takes about and hour.
They promise full working MMS, Txt, Market, Internet, and Calls.

My question is why not root? You can get z4 root in so many places, and then get even the unpaid version of Titanium Back Up and at least get rid of all that nasty bloatware Metro hogs the phone with. After that just unroot your device, and it will at least be a heck of a lot faster and have more free memory. The nice thing about Z4 is it is just simple click options.
 
I'm new here. I bought my Ascend in January and have been living on this forum ever since waiting for the 2.2 update. I need true hands free dialing which is the main reason I wanted the update. Last night I finally gave up and rooted the phone and went for the CM7 mod. Best move I ever made! Thanks to everyone behind this mod and it's supporters. I now love my ascend. I will donate as soon as I find a link that works.:p

dont know maybe you already posted this. i was browsing the handmark downloads that came with my metropcs phone. it says an upgrade to go from eclair to froyo 2.2. check it out. if my link isn't any good, search the handmark site.
I will check it out. Currently I have CM7 but i did make a nandroid backup of my original eclair before upgrading. I wonder if I should try this out or not. And if I do, I may have to go back to what I had. Maybe if this is legit, someone can use this to improve an updated, less bloated version. Hope this is what we all been looking for. Let me know if anyone does this.

I posted this on another page and I apologize if I'm jumping the gun. Maybe this isn't what I think it is. But if it is the update then anyone have any advice on it let me know. handmark is the software download that came with my phone, so it could be. cross our fingers.
 
Hey Jazzy. I haven't been on here in a while, but I have infooo. I have 2 android ascends in my household. The person with the other one just showed me that her phone said something like "Updating phone - do not turn off phone" or something along those lines. Mine isn't doing it for some reason, but I think hers is getting 2.2. (We have Metro PCS)

I do hope so, and I hope mine hurries it's ass up. xD

Gotta agree here. If you are going stock, rooted with bloatware freeze is the only way to make it usable.
 
2.2 (froyo) Update app is on the metroapp store. Download it and wait till metro adds the file to update your phone. This may take days or weeks, we will never know. If you dont want to wait i suggest you download cm7

Hi, do you know how the other person with the Huawei Ascend in your household get to the "Updating phone - do not turn off phone screen"?

Also here's something I tried doing on my Ascend but eventually failed. On the MetroPCS AppStore there is an application called "Ascend Software Upgdate - Version 4". I downloaded and installed the app, when I opened it, it did a check for a new system firmware upgrade, it stated my system was up to date even though I'm running the standard Android 2.1 system.

If anyone has any information on regarding this please feel free to contact through private message or right here on this thread. All help and concern is appreciated, thanks in advance.

there's no update from metro yet, and might not be until they have enough tap out edition sold, but if you want 2.2 on your ascend now than i suggest cm6 its 2.2 froyo, just click the cm6 link in my siggy, and than follow this guide: http://androidforums.com/ascend-all-things-root/320265-ultimate-ascend-customization-guide.html

From what I understand, it is an app to download the update, but the update itself won't be available for a couple weeks. Of course, they've been saying that for 6 months lol, so who knows.
