you have the new downloaded file correct? you can click the link in my siggy and download and extract it to sd card, than go to settings/ sd card & phone storage, scroll down and tap software upgrade, and sd card upgrade.

the 2.2 upgrade from your sig

update: just redownloaded from your sig, extracted to sd card, tried to upgrade = upgrade failed

Ok I got a text from metro about the update. Now I have a custom boot animation plus the phone is rooted. I did notice other questions that are close to this one but not what I am looking for. My question is this, "I have the custom boot animation, rooted, plus other custom things. If I update my phone 1. will i have to reinstall my programs? 2. Can I re-root my phone? 3. having a rooted phone will the update brick my phone? 4. will my custom boot animation be deleted?" Thanks to all and any help on this one!

first unroot, then do the update then reroot, then reapply your customizations. The update will get rid of all that. why not try CM6 or CM7 instead? no bloatware!

The update will not go through if you are rooted. Flash a rooted version of the update.

Ok, now im not a real big tecky or hacker. I am new to this. I am mostly a graphic artist. Now I have gone through youtube and tried to follow some of those so called "experts" however i still get a mixed reply about "bricking." Now as for the cm6 or cm7, I have no idea what those are (sorry again new to this) How would one go about doing those and what risks are involved? Any real progress? What are the benefits? How will it affect my phone? Sorry about all the questions. I am not a rich person, so this is my lifeline to the outside world. lol

This may have already been discussed somewhere, but I haven't been on in a while and there's too much to go through.

Ok so I have done the upgrade, rooted my phone with Gingerbreak, and have successfully removed all the bloatware with RootExplorer. But things aren't quite the same. The problems I'm having with the upgrade is I'm noticing that all of my apps seem to randomly auto run A LOT more than they did with the 2.1 (draining my battery life quicker). Is there anyway of setting the phone to not do this? Also I noticed that no matter how many times I unclick the "sync apps" option, my phone always goes back to syncing apps all by itself. Can anyone please help me or is there anywhere to set the phone so these things aren't just randomly going on. Also where the hell is the eBay app? It's nowhere to be found in the app market. I've found it via the web on the phone, but when I go to d/l it the phone tells me it can't. Any info on how I can go around this?

Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

OrKo.

Ok so the eBay app finally appeared in my app market. However I'm still having the auto running of 90% of my apps at all times problem. Anyone have any info on what I can do to prevent them from running so often to conserve my battery?

Good God that was a pain in the ass... Stayed up late, hopped up on pain pills (my back made my doctor cry...) trying to find a version of Gingerbreak that would download to my phone... Have to root to tether so I have net...

What would have been awesome is someone putting together a 2.2 upgrade package. You can put in upgrade, gingerbreak, tethering apk, file program to kill the bloatware monster and a txt instructions for doing the whole mess...

Getting a folder with the upgrade, root and extras together. Might take a while to download if your tethering, but it'll have all the files you need in one neat package.

Any ideas for where to share the zip I'm putting together?
PlayfulGod has it rooted, deodexed, and bloatware removed, but if you want to put another one together, start a new thread and post it up in the all things root section!

go to settings/ synce and uncheck auto synce, and about the apps, try auto memory manager and set the last 3 bars, but buy an app running in the background if you notice its not using resorce, android is different from windows and certain apps have to run in order for adroid to run smooth, and also make sure gps is off in settings/ location & security.

Did the new metro 2.2 upgrade on my phone an now it's just stuck on the Hauwei Logo an its been like this for a day... Tried taking the battery out, new CWM, everything.. HELPPP MEEEE
"www.metropcs.com/androis2-2upgrade"

look here in the forums in the Ascend all things root section the top post or sticky is the ultimate ascend customization guide, all the instructions and pros and cons are in that thread....read it all, and then make your decision, this phone is almost impossible to brick, and everyone here is very helpful if you run into a problem. Cm6 is an upgrade to 2.2 with bloatware removed, and Cm7 is 2.3 with bloatware removed. I am on cm6, because I couldn't get cm7 to work properly on my phone, but Cm6 works perfectly. But lots of people have Cm7 working great on their phones.....Don't be scared just make sure you read everything and understand before you try anything, plus I know some people will even offer to walk you through it on instant messenger or skype....

still getting nowhere at all with my phone. countless forums searched and it seems like no one is having the same problem as me at all. Had my phone for 3 months now, all stock (no clue how to root or even what it is, im lucky i can run my comp to get to the net) get the Text from Metro so i do as it says and try and upgrade. DL the app from metro store, says my phone is up to date. Try it the manual way and dl the file to phone, move to SD and try to upgrade from SD. It starts fine, unpacks fine but when it gets to the installing step (2/2) i always get "upgrade failed" almost instantly. Ive actually followed some directions on here and reset my phone to stock (thnx nuttmeg for that btw) and tried DLing the upgrade again and i get the same thing (from PG's link, nuttmeg's link, and the metro official. all the same)

is there anything i could possibly be doing wrong ? or am i just stuck with the stock 2.1 crap is too slow to even let me play the ridiculously addictive angry birds ?

Ok, so I am a complete noob at all this rooting, flashing, whatever.
I have the Ascend from Cricket. Is it possible to use the update given by metroPCS and install it on my cricket phone?

Heres the link to the site with the file: Huawei Ascend Android 2.2 Upgrade

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

hey nuttmeg would you be interested in walking me through the cm6 or cm7 install on my cricket ascend? it would rock! shoot me a pm if youre willing to do me a huge favor.. im so tired of this stock rom fkn up and crashing... Ive had two of these phones with the same problem.. -thanks Dew

I updated to 2.2 and I really dislike it. So I was wondering can I still upgrade to cm7 but, I don't want to risk bricking my phone.

Gotcha, I might try it. I'm just worried about it freezing up during the process. If that were to happen, how would I get it back to normal, and do you think my phone would still work? I really want to try it

You want my opinion. Heres what I think you should do, from your phone google Z4root once done dl it and root your phone. Then go to this link
CM7-Ascend - Prepaid Android and follow the instructions and flash over CM7, this is by far the best rom out there for your phone trust me I know. I have flashed every rom on my ascend, finally I gave it to my wife and put CM7 back on. It is the quickest and smoothest rom I know for the Ascend. Now if you really want 2.2 than I would suggest CM6. Anything you get from metro will be full of bloatware and be just as slow as the 2.1 you are currenly running.
Hope this helps!:D

Well if you want Metro's official 2.2 (full of bloatware)you will have to unroot and go to metro's website, I am sorry I did not paste the link before I responded. But before you do that I would suggest you go with playful god's version, he has removed all bloatware and seems to be very smooth. Now if you really want you phone to run at its best I would suggest CM7.CM7-Ascend - Prepaid Android then follow this guide Tokenpokes ultimate ascend customization guide.
Hope this helps!!:D
