[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

Thanks for your help. If I need completely re-install the 2.2 OS, do you know where I can download the update from please? It's gone off the MetroPCS website and your dropbox link has got too much traffic at the moment I think (there's an error that says 'This account's public links are generating too much traffic and have been temporarily disabled').

Thanks a lot.

Lee

New Link in my siggy...:D

on the 2.2 version ... hows the Netflix audio...I'm with cricket and went with CM7 and the sound is choppy...

i tried it for a few days and all was good as long as i was on wifi, cause you know metro has 1x...

Ok so I finally made the switch to 2.2 and talk about smooth running until my phone tells me every five minutes that space is getting low. I have come to find out that my apps aren't being automatically put on the SD card so when I went to manually move them, I found out that I could only move a couple of them to the SD card. But when I was running Icarus everything went to the SD card. Is there a way to fix this problem or has anybody made a really awesome MOD that can help me? Please help I hate slow phone!!!

I have come to notice that even though we only have 1x, well if you keep the easy metro wifi app then you will find yourself connected to wifi a lot more. EasyMetroWifi is a community of people and businesses that volunteer their routers to be used by people with metro smartphones. Of course just remember to be careful of what info you send out over their routers.

Also if you're a navigator junkie then after reviewing a few navigators for android I have come to find out that MetroNavigator is also pretty good. To me this is a must keep app!!! Unless of course anybody has tried something better then please feel free to let me know because the better the Navigator I have the more money I make!!!

Good God that was a pain in the ass... Stayed up late, hopped up on pain pills (my back made my doctor cry...) trying to find a version of Gingerbreak that would download to my phone... Have to root to tether so I have net...

What would have been awesome is someone putting together a 2.2 upgrade package. You can put in upgrade, gingerbreak, tethering apk, file program to kill the bloatware monster and a txt instructions for doing the whole mess...

Getting a folder with the upgrade, root and extras together. Might take a while to download if your tethering, but it'll have all the files you need in one neat package.

Any ideas for where to share the zip I'm putting together?

I'll give it a try. :)
Ok if there any alternative to that? because I'm broke :/

If you want my advice, then I'd keep the metronavigator it's actually one of the best ones I have reviewed. Also I don't know if this would work, but I could try uploading the Root Explorerer apk then email it to you later.

I'd keep info like that to PM ;)

I didnt like metronav, I use google maps on my phones, esp on my DX, the hell with having to pay to use a feature built into the phone (verizon).

I was planning on keeping that. But I want to uninstall apps like UNO and Loopt. I would highly appreciate that. I tried titanium but it does seem to work.

okay, so ive tried everything ive read, and everything i could think of.. still cant get this 2.2 update done. ive reset my phone to factory, ive downloaded the app several times from several diff places and everytime i always get the same message "update failed" "update failed" for 2 days thats all ive gotten. the only time the update actually worked for me was when i downloaded a crikit update by mistake and then my metro wouldnt work at all and to reset to straight out the box again. anyone have any other ideas ? Btw when trying to do it the metro app, it says its up to date, checking the phone still shows im in 2.1

thats what i have been doing.. nothing else even gets me to the step where i can actually start the upgrade. this process always says "update failed" tho

Did you follow the instructions step by step?

Also which by which step does that error message pop up?

yes, ive followed every step down to the letter. it always ends in the same result. gets to step 2/2 and update failed at like 33-40%

im re uploading another link...:D

reverting back to stock, ok power down the phone and download and extract this to your desktop MetroStockRecovery-SCRIPTS.zip after you done that press and hold vol down, end key and tap power, your phone should be on the white huawei screen and it should stay there plug your phone to the computer via usb cable, now open the folder that you extracted and run both of these file, first run fastboot-windows you will see a black box come and leave quick, next run metroPCSStock-windows.bat than another black box will pop up and it will do its thing, once it finishes the phone will automatic reboot itself. ;)

Just to give an update, I tried the recover program with my phone. The recovery went fine, went through all the steps saying 'okay' for each and the phone then booted successfully. However, it's still doing the same thing - constantly restarting. It was worth a try though, so I appreciate you suggesting it.

The firmware update process is still running, but this time there isn't a mb size next to it (so I assume it's not downloading anything). Just so I know whether or not this is anything relevant, could people who have installed a WORKING 2.2.2 UPDATE please post if this process is showing up in their 'running services' list (Menu -> Settings -> Applications)? It'll help me (and others with similar issues) at least clear this point up. Could be nothing, could be everything.

Thanks everyone, you're all being a fantastic help - I appreciate it.

just tried one last time. redownloaded the update from whats posted here. did a complete stock recovery. followed the steps from the metro site for option 2 to the letter. same result. phone unpacks the data with no problem, then it shifts to step 2/2 "installing" and i get a warning icon (yellow triangle with ! ) and it says update failed. im beyond pissed at the phone at this point and have had many thoughts about just raging on it with the hammer i have sitting next to me on the table. Anyone know anything about this happening ? has it happened to you ? how did you fix it ?

extract the download folder to your computer and place the "dload" on you sdcard, and power down the phone, once phone is off, press and hold vol up, end key, and tap power and the installation will start. but make sure your battery is more than 50%.:)

trying it this way, i got a little bit diff response from my phone. finally, something different. it still says update failed when it gets to step 2/2 but now the menu and send/end call buttons at the bottom flash. im so lost
