[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

@ CPRS - Thanks for the solution. How do I uninstall the Froyo update please? It says on the MetroPCS site that once installed you can't revert back to 2.1.

Thanks.

Lee
Downgrade it using the back up file system. You may have to search on Google to find it.

Hey guys I need help I downloaded the update but is not xtracting I get a message saying the package version failed to verify please help I really want to upgrade I am rooted but I never installed roms or nothing I just deleted bloatware like im vlc card thing voice recorder boingo I used root explorer to delete them if this is the problem how do I do a hard factory reset so I can get my metro ascend back to original with all the factory apps I dont care if I havw to call metro and reactivate phone and start from 0 please help guys thanks

You want my opinion. Heres what I think you should do, from your phone google Z4root once done dl it and root your phone. Then go to this link
CM7-Ascend - Prepaid Android and follow the instructions and flash over CM7, this is by far the best rom out there for your phone trust me I know. I have flashed every rom on my ascend, finally I gave it to my wife and put CM7 back on. It is the quickest and smoothest rom I know for the Ascend. Now if you really want 2.2 than I would suggest CM6. Anything you get from metro will be full of bloatware and be just as slow as the 2.1 you are currenly running.
Hope this helps!:D

i actually just finished doing this about an hour ago (went to CM6) speaking as someone who knows very little about tech, it was actually pretty easy if you can follow directions. i might to cm7 in a few days, what all is different from 6 to 7 ? cm6 is way diff from the stock 2.1 but its a hell of alot faster and doesnt seem to force close alot of diff apps

I downloaded and installed the update and everything seemed to be working fine. I unrooted my phone before I installed the download from metro pcs. Well after I rebooted my phone and tried to re install z4 root the phone would not allow me to root my phone. What kind of crap is this? Metro thinks they are slick. So I just re flashed back to stock and re rooted again and things are fine. Just dealing with the laggy as keyboard.
Is Cm7 working fine with out having to download three different files from three different places? Would be nice just to download on thing instead of Gapps, metro off, do this and do that.

no, you still need GAPP's & Metroff. z4root will not work on the Offiial 2.2 upgrade from Metro... if you go to the top of Sub-Forums & click on ALL THINGS ROOT you will have all the info on how to w/2.2 & CM7 as well as CM6 & ICARUS... just need to dig & read futher.

okay, so I forgot to unroot my ascend, cwm 2.5.1.8, and did the update to 2.2.... now I'm stuck, I've tried to flush it back to stock and to result, I can't even boot on cwm anymore, any suggestions? thanks!

That's the issue, it won't let me flash back, it won't let me do anything, the only thing that I can see when trying to boot on cwm are the words cwm 2.x.x at the bottom of the screen, nothing else... and when it reboots, stays on the huawei logo...

You need Gingerbreak v.1.10 to root after update, pissed me off too.. I'm still working on getting mine tweaked to my liking. Any one else having probs with widgets disappearing from screen and widget list?

I'm going to try to help the moderators and answer some questions in one fail swoop...

If you get a lot of errors updating your phone download the update and do it again,

reverting back to stock, ok power down the phone and download and extract this to your desktop MetroStockRecovery-SCRIPTS.zip after you done that press and hold vol down, end key and tap power, your phone should be on the white huawei screen and it should stay there plug your phone to the computer via usb cable, now open the folder that you extracted and run both of these file, first run fastboot-windows you will see a black box come and leave quick, next run metroPCSStock-windows.bat than another black box will pop up and it will do its thing, once it finishes the phone will automatic reboot itself.

Then do update with new download... http://dl.dropbox.com/u/31550100/M860B617dload.zip or Huawei Ascend Android 2.2 Upgrade

If your on Cricket you'll have to wait for cricket to get up to speed or try another rom like CM/6 or CM/7 Tokenpokes ultimate ascend customization guide is the best, I did my first mod for my phone from it. IF you use the Metro upgrade you'll loose some phone services like data and mms... Not worth the headache.

If your phone is rooted the update will still install but, z4Root won't work. You need Gingerbreak v1.10 http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=575276&d=1303479887
Then Titanium backup, App2sd and root explorer from the market

:DI hope this helps, I stumbled at first and with the fine advice from this forum I got mine working fine. My phone is running great on 2.2 and once the bloatware was gone it's running as good as it was on CM7... My opinion only...

So I just rooted my phone, but I want to get rid of some of the bloatware (or all). Only thing is I need an alternative to TiBu. Is there an app that allows me to delete the metro bloatware and maybe backup the apps for when I need to put them back on?

(Without having to pay of course. On the other hand, I don't believe this device will make it to 2.3 so if I were to delete MetroEasy Wifi for example, I wouldnt really need to put it back on...) /SideRant.

still doesn't work for me... :( what should I do?

Try this from a few pages back

reverting back to stock will put your phone to like it was out of box, and yes send them 1 by 1 to gmail...
