[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

After trying to upgrade, my phone is stuck on the Huawei screen as well. I downloaded the MetroStockRecovery-SCRIPTS.zip. When I hold down the volume, end key and power button, it relaunches the 2.2 update and freezes again. I tried to plug the phone it into my computer via usb, but it won't recognize it. Any suggestions?

I think you need to PM Nuttmeg or PlayfulGod. there is a recovery program that you load via a pc, but I haven't had to use it yet.
 
Ok, I was roaming around Huawei's web site and went to their download section and they have a file available for download and I am guessing that it is the 2.2 froyo. The web address is...

Software - Huawei Device Co., Ltd..

The file I am talking about is kernel-2.6.32-FROYO.tar.bz2

Is it possible the use it on the Ascend and upgrade from Droid 2.1 ro Droid 2.2 without damaging the phone?

nope just use the 2.2 upgrade from metro...:rolleyes:

Is that the 2.2 upgrade for Cricket Ascend users?
 
I recently updated my huawei ascend to android 2.2 and as you know all apps were deleted. i am trying to find some of the apps i had and now market is saying that certain apps are not compatable with my phone. It cant be that they are not compatable with my phone because i had them when i was using android 2.1. Can anyone tell me why this is or a way i can fix this problem.

please help
 
Hi All: looks like everybody is having some kind of a problem when rooting ascend metropcs. I have mine upgraded in the store before knowing many other things from Android...
Please really direct me to know what would be the advantage of rooting... if REALLY can do it. The only thing extra that I think I need now is flash player...haven't been able to install it and all websites think all are androidintelligent like them and that with just a few explanations we are going to be able to do all the steps like they say..

Any info for a new android user (that believe in it better that the apple competition)?

The Ascend is not compatible with flash. Adobe, in their infinite wisdom, won't create a flash edition for arm6 devices. Unless Adobe has some giant change of heart, we're S.O.L.

Just a side note... Sprint is adding the Evo 4G to their "Free with new service" list to make room for the Evo 3D...
 
HEY GUYS, IM JUST ONE OF THE MANY WHO'S HUAWEI ASCEND IS A NEW PAPERWEIGHT!! THANKS METROPC FOR THE GREAT UPGRADE:mad: WELL, JUST GOING TO ASK, IS THERE ANY HOPE? PHONE STUCK ON THE HUAWEI SCREEN. IT LOADS THE UPGRADE AND THEN STOPS ON THAT SCREEN!!! IM RUNNING OUT OF OPTIONS, SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:confused::confused::confused:
 
First off hey everybody I'm new to this site :D
I was wondering how can I make my ascend better. I did the official 2.2 update but it's slower in a way to me. I rooted it but what all should I do to it now? :O

The phone got dropped in water and I put it in a bag of rice and it seemed to get better. Problem is it won't load past the Android boot up screen, I've done the MetroStockRecoverer deal and it did nothing for me, I was able to put 2.2 on it and I keep getting the same problem.:confused:
 
I was wondering, all my apps are gone from the update which I'm glad about. But does this metroPCS official update rewipe the phone. There isn't any lingering chunks taking up space on the phone's memory is there? I was on cm7, flash and wiped it all from CWM recovery. Then applied a nandroid of my eclair taking me back to what I have the first week of having the phone at official 2.1. Then did the update. I was wondering, should I have rewiped anything else or done a factory reset? or if I am to use that stock download I see mentioned, does that stock download include the 2.2? Sorry if thats confusing. I was successful with the update and all information does seem to be gone and there is about 105M of available internal phone storage space. (I'm not concerned with SD card storage) I Just want to be sure theres no space being used or leftover from before.

I tried using that Auto MEM Manager app before but nothing changed. I'll re-install it and give it another go. What should I set the last 3 settings to? I also sent you a pm, because I get lost reading through all these post sometimes..

I did the upgrade with my phone fully rooted w/no cust rom as well and everything turned out fine.

to be on the safe side since so many ascends are different i would recommend flashing back to stock 2.1 that do the upgrade. :D
