[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

no. haven't used one since I was on stock 2.1. actually thinking of installing one to see if it can prevent the Bluetooth from coming on. if that doesn't work i'll just wipe the phone and re-install CM7.

i would not recommend using one, but you can try it and see...but if you think you had a bad flash, i would reflash and see if that was the problem.

Try the app 'STARTUP AUDITOR'.It can prevent some apps from turning on @ start-up.It also has the option of keeping the offending app from coming online @ a later time if the app persists on turning itself on.
It sounds like you have something in your BLUETOOTH settings that keeps it on or an aftermarket BLUETOOTH app that is causing the problem.
Please keep us posted on your progress.

with what?
i downloaded gingerbreak and root explorer and for some reason root explorer wont let me delet anything.. when i try it says i cant delet because file is read only...? and does anyone know how to make the facebook picture as ur contact icon.. it shows in the contacts but doesnt know when u txt message or call someone

okay i think i found the problem.. i do put it to R/W but than when i got into cust/metropcs/us it turns into r/o again...?

I wasn't sure where to put this, but since the root of the problem occurred when I attempted to update to 2.2, I'll place it here.

I downloaded the 2.2 update from nuttmeg's sig and ran it in accordance to the steps provided by metro pcs.

After doing so, the phone went through the appropriate steps and loaded to the white huawei screen. It seemed to be taking a while but I figured it was just gathering all the info. After about a hour, the battery died and I plugged it in. I restarted it and more white screen. After 20 minutes or so, I started searching to see how long it normally takes. I then started reading on other forums where people working at metro have been running in to bricked phones fairly often now after the 2.2 update. They seem to find it funny that they can charge to root and update, but that's really neither here nor there.

I decided to follow these steps

reverting back to stock, ok power down the phone and download and extract this to your desktop MetroStockRecovery-SCRIPTS.zip after you done that press and hold vol down, end key and tap power, your phone should be on the white huawei screen and it should stay there, now open the folder that you extracted and run both of these file, first run fastboot-windows you will see a black box come and leave quick, next run metroPCSStock-windows.bat than another black box will pop up and it will do its thing, once it finishes the phone will automatic reboot itself.

Now, it makes it past the white screen but instead stays frozen on the android screen. The scripts work, it recognizes the phone, follows through the actions as said, but when it reboots, it stays stuck on the android screen.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to where to go from here.

Is there a next step? Another process? Would I be best off taking it to the store? I have no interest in paying metro 10 dollars when it seems like some inside joke but I'll do what I must.

Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.

Edit: Not sure if this is important to the situation, but volume up + call send, volume down + call end and any combination of the buttons does absolutely nothing while booting. I have no access to any sort of start up menu.

you need root explorer 2.16, to put r/w in the metro folder to delete the bloatware.

pull battery and power it on again and see if it will boot if not, than repeat the process to revert back to 2.1. Also before upgrading your phone to 2.2 your battery needs to be more than 50% or a brick could happen not that it cant be fixed tho, but make sure battery is charge over 50% to less the brick percentage.

It was around 55% when I started, was surprised at how fast it seemed to drain and shut completely down.

I'm giving what you said a try. Is there a general time for how long it will take before I know whether or not it's taken effect? Not from an impatient standpoint, but rather so I know approx when to update on the progress.

Minutes? Half hour? Hour?

Thanks again for your help, I apologize if it made it seem in any way, shape or form that I was blaming you personally for the problems by mentioning you twice.

Update:
I pulled the battery, plugged it in and now am getting a screen that says
"The first step finish!
Please do not revome the battery
and wait next upgrade to Froyo"

with the Huawei logo below it.

Been on that screen for about 4 minutes now.

thanks so much it worked.. i must have downloaded a old one or something.. :) Now to figure out this picture thing

your welcome!!!

Note To All, if you are going to try metro 2.2 i recommend having a battery level of 50% or more, and use option 2 to update your phone!!!:D

oh i know you wasnt blaming no one, thats how some ascends act...:D ascend gets lazy sometimes, but it normally takes around 10 minutes.

So I left the screen that says
"The first step finish!
Please do not revome the battery
and wait next upgrade to Froyo"

with the Huawei logo below it on for a half hour, didn't do anything so I figured I would try the method to revert back to stock.

It's been a half hour since then and still sitting at the android screen. I'll let it continue on like this but honestly, it doesn't feel like it's really going anywhere.

With the battery in, it just goes straight from the white, huawei screen to the black, android screen. When I remove the battery it goes to the "first step finish!" screen and stays there. Both let me run the fastboot and stock, but neither do anything with it.

sounds like the ascend is being lazy, do the revert back to stock again leaving the phone connected to usb mode until it gets past the android screen.

Hey everyone, I've searched the forums to see if this problem has happened to anyone else, but I couldn't find anything.

Basically, I've got a Huawei Ascend on MetroPCS and recently updated the OS to 2.2.2 Froyo, via the official MetroPCS update. Since then, it has constantly been restarting, about 10 times a day at a guess. I can't figure out a pattern, sometimes it happens when it's just on the table unattended, sometimes it happens whilst I'm using it. Sometimes it happens 3 times in an hour, and sometimes it goes 3 hours without a problem.

The only thing I've noticed is that when I go to Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Running Services there is a service running called 'Firmware Update'. To the right of that it says the mb size (currently at 3.2mb and increasing) and just underneath it says 'Process: com.huawei.android.dmclient'.

There is also a sub-item underneath the 'Firmware Update' row that says 'Firmware Update' followed by 'Started by Application: touch to stop'. It's also got a timer to the right (increasing).

I've noticed that this has been running every time I've looked, after numerous restarts. I'm guessing that what is happening is that something is downloading the firmware and updating itself, and restarting the phone upon completion. However, it seems extremely strange that this is still happening 3 days after me updating the OS.

It's annoying that I can't find any way to get more information on the firmware update, such as which process/application is requesting it. Or is it the process 'dmclient' that's requesting it - or is that purely the actual update process, rather than the actual application that's getting updated?

I'm entirely confused. I'm thinking of just restarting the whole install process (if that's possible?) in case something went wrong. Any advice would be greatly, greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot folks.
Lee

The random dialing seems to have stopped. Late last nite, i flashed CM7 again, without wiping the phone, but the bluetooth keeps turning on on its own. i'm going to do a complete wipe now to see if that helps.
