[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

Im trying to update to 2.2 i just want to know if updating while not having the original launcher-canvas will affect the update?

And also what's a good app to save or extract all my messages?

to be on the safe side, revert back to stock, and about the messages just send them to your gmail is the best route to go.

Is it ok to revert back to stock w/o having the original launcher?
-by reverting back to stock do you mean reset?

and how do i send them to my gmail? like one by one or how?

-sorry im not too good with the phone haha

reverting back to stock will put your phone to like it was out of box, and yes send them 1 by 1 to gmail...

reverting back to stock, ok power down the phone and download and extract this to your desktop MetroStockRecovery-SCRIPTS.zip after you done that press and hold vol down, end key and tap power, your phone should be on the white huawei screen and it should stay there plug your phone to the computer via usb cable, now open the folder that you extracted and run both of these file, first run fastboot-windows you will see a black box come and leave quick, next run metroPCSStock-windows.bat than another black box will pop up and it will do its thing, once it finishes the phone will automatic reboot itself.

Ok thanks i'll start in a bit if i run into any problems ill be back haha...

Is there any other way to save the messages, i have thousands of messages i want to save... :/

hmmm thats hard to say, but you can always google and see, i just git ride of mines lol
 
I completed the upgrade took less than 10 mins. I then was able to use gingerbreak to root device. (Root level access is working). Installed Titanium Backup Pro & PRO KEY. Performed backup & Uninstalled bloatware. All is working good so far!

congrats!!! now if you want to remove the rest of the bloatware use root explorer 2.16 and go to/cust/metro and start deleting the rest.;)

Which bloatware items are safe for to uninstall? I used list from 2.1. Also whats a free alternative to "root explorer 2.16"? Thanks

Did anyone download from the site before it went "TU"? I went nuts finding the metro app store, but when you go to install it your informed that you need wifi running to install... Win7 is a pain, I set up a adhock, my phone won't recognize it... I'm begging someone to post a link... Puhhhhleeeeeeze?

I've downloaded the file twice, and both times i got that the file is either damaged or in a wrong format...Is there any other one?
 
ok with this new 2.2 update i started the download from the metro aps section then it would get half way then fail. this happened three times the time it took to get there was ridiculous then this last time i tried to run it again and it said i have the latest version. which i dont cause i looked what do i do. i even reset my phone to factory settings and it still says i have the newest when the 2.2 never finished downloading? what do i do im so frustrated lol
 
Thanks for all the info! I also received a text this morning about the Metro 2.2 upgrade, I went to the site and I get this...

"We're sorry but the Android 2.2 upgrade is currently unavailable. We are working quickly to fix the issue. We appreciate your patience."

Patience? These jokers have been stringing customers along since February! Please! I must admit, I wasn't shocked to see this message. Just one more..."we control you" situation from Metro.

Honestly, I refuse to allow a corporation to tell me what I can do with MY phone! All Metro is needed for is for telecommunication services...nothing else. As long as they get their money every month, they do not have the right to tell people what to do with a phone that the customer bought! It's not like we lease these phones from them!

Any how...CM7 (Mod version CM7-Ascend-05212011) works great! Everything works from text & sms to camera and video. Kuddos Cyanogen Mod! You guys ROCK!!!
