Root **Official** Droid X encrypted bootloader and efuse thread

There are so many holes in this logic. So by your logic we should take everything big brother gives us and use it the way big brother tells us. If you wanna be a lemming go ahead. Better yet get an Iphone. Android is definitely not the right place for you to be

I'm just ****ing around, never mind guys just wanted to see what you would say. I agree you should be able to do whatever you want with your stuff once you buy it as well.

wtf? fail.....just...jus..j...fail!

Honestly I dont know what everyone is getting their panties in a bunch over this. This phone has all the features, all the apps one could want and has the huge screen. Not to mention, its already running 1000mhz and with froyo loaded, its going to be smokin fast. Now if you want to run a custom rom, then thats all that is going to suck for you. But for everyone else, this phone is a badass. I rooted, custom rommed and overclocked my droid just so I could get it livable. Otherwise, it was boring and slow. Now the new X is no where near slow, and with froyo its going to be screaming fast. Thats all you need.

I want to customize my phone the way I WANT. Not the way you think I should be happy with. What is so hard to understand about that?

Nothing, accept for the fact that if you **** it up, you will do everything in your power to get it warranty exchanged out on verizon/motorola's dime. They dont want that. In turn, they made a fail safe for them to know if you messed it up. And ALSO, they provided a fully featured phone that has everything all the other leading phones have so you may be compelled to NOT mess with it. My point is, its never going to be everything for everyone, but it will for the majority. And for the rest of you who will mess it up, you will now be penalized for doing so. I for one am glad they did this. I too modded the hell out of my droid, but because it was physically slow to register finger touches, and would lock up when multitasking like they claim it should be able to do easily. I tried 3 seperate phones to no avail, so I decided to root then overclock. It made the 3rd phone do correctly what they advertised it could do from the factory. Essentially I made it work right.

Sadly, some will/would.

FWIW, when I rooted my Eris, I was fully prepared to have it bricked and have to fall-back to my old LG flip phone. I would not have turned in a warranty claim for something that I did, having full knowledge of the impact and repercussions of my actions. Many that have rooted had no idea what they were doing and getting in to (and no business rooting, IMO). I often think that sometimes the tools that allow one to root are too easy to use...

I am aware that there are many folks out there that did/do not share my view and have gamed the system and VZW and this reflects poorly on all of us.

Just my two cents...

Ugh.

At the tattoo parlor: "I don't know why you guys want to get tattoos. Our bodies have all the features they need."

On the smoking patio: "I don't know why you guys are so concerned about smoking. Life is good enough without it."

At church: "Life is good enough without all this God stuff."

In Linus Torvalds' basement: "The current OS'es out there are good enough, and the computer manufacturer specifically designed it to work."

You're not convincing anybody they don't want ROMs and shouldn't be pissed that the BL is locked. So what's the point of trying?

I think it's worthwhile to note Birdman's latest tweet:
"Evil efuse is confirmed not active, we just have the same protection as u milestone"

I am honestly not going to put any stock in this: both a well known insider and Motorola both came out and notified us that the eFuse was active. They both claimed that the eFuse would be activated by certain forms of tampering, the only difference was that Aixelsyd said it would brick the phone and Motorola said it would continually boot until the correct conditions were satisfied (brick for all intensive purposes unless proper 'hard to get' software/firmware is obtained).

I hope Birdman is right, but so far nothing I've seen from him has been overly convincing. Here's to hoping that he's just keeping most of what he knows quiet so that Moto doesn't know what he knows.... :/

Its just funny all the bitching going on that people are not able to HACK their brandnew phone. LOL its funny.

That's what this thread is about, sorry to disappoint you. This thread is about hacking the phone. Not about why we shouldn't worry about hacking the phone. You're more than welcome to start a new thread with that topic.

please don't use the word "you" when YOU obviously don't know me. I worked for Verizon for 2 years as a tech in a corporate store. I'm fully aware of the warranty exchange policy. I'm not talking about bricking my phone (its been confirmed that the dreaded efuse is NOT active on the X) so thats not the issue. If I want to change the font on my phone system wide I should be able to do that. If I was different icons for battery or wifi in my notification bar, I should be allowed to do that. If I want to delete system apps like back up assisstant or Blockbuster. I should be able to do that. Just because a phone is perfectly fine FOR YOU, don't assume to know whats best for me or for anybody else.

Maybe you can't read because clearly the thread title says it all. I know im not one to root but if people want to who are you to say they shouldnt be able to? It is their property they can do what they want to it

I think i read something to that effect in his tweets actually.

Concerning all this "We own the device - we should be able to hack it" argument. Think about this. If you own your house, you expect to be able to access any part of it, right? To be able to use any part of it as you want right?

Guess what....you don't.

Virtually every utility coming into your house has a locked interface. Certainly at least the power meter and interface is locked. Does anyone complain about that? Gaining access to those areas would even allow people to bypass the meter and steal electricity. Do you as a homeowner have a right to do that? The meter is on your property afterall! No you don't have any rights to do that. It is against the law in fact.

Just because you buy something does not give you unlimited rights in some cases. The fact is that rooting a phone does open the possibility for a user to steal from their provider. (Wireless tethering without additonal fees, accessing proprietary and intellectual property, etc). So clearly the manufacture and service provider have the right to protect their intellectual property and also prevent users from stealing from them.

Just my 2 cents.....

If I buy a Dell with Windows 7 on it I can change any of the hardware on it I want and install Ubuntu if I so desire, why should cell phones be any different?

Yeah I basically just restated something that he said in the one thread. Basically I'm just being guarded: don't wanna get myself all worked up like w/ the Incredible b/c there's always the chance he just was scamming ppl for a phone and now is trying to lead us on till we all quietly lose faith and forget about him. Obviously that's a worst case scenario, but I like to keep it in the back of my mind so that if that did turn out to be reality, I wouldn't be quite as crushed. AKA, just trying to plan ahead to minimize any potential emotional abuse I may have to deal with.... lol

Cuz with a PC, u have the option to format the harddrive and start from scratch. With some PC's u actually have the option to get it with no OS at all. With a PC u can install and remove some hardware components. U dont have these options on a phone.

On a phone...u can remove the SD Card...

Thats why I mentioned before.....these are phones not PC's. Again, I rooted my Droid, ran custom ROM's on it. I hope the X gets rooted, and by a miracle can run custom ROMs. But I also see the point ZXMustang and sic0048 are making.

Yeah kind of shitty analogy for one simple fact. You dont own those utilities. Although you pay for them you still have to keep paying unlike a phone where once you pay the initial fee you are done paying for it(other then charges for your plan) So you own the phone. you own the house not the utilities nice try though. And you can say that motorola owns the software but it is even more reason you should be able to put whatever software that is compatible with it on it.

This thread isn't about whether or not you want the BL unlocked, just news, updates things of that nature. No more arguing please.

Hey man, I wasnt trying to start anything. Just stating the fact that the droid X is one hell of a device, and back when the regular droid was hacked it was because the device was lacking several options that people want and what moto claimed it could already do. Same thing happened with the iphone. The first one came out, locked down like crazy. People (ME INCLUDED) unlocked/not jailbroke the phone because we wanted other apps and themes that apple would not allow. After getting wise, apple came up with the app store which pretty much defeated the unlockers. After the updates came out, with the app store and such, there was no need to do that anymore. Those must have apps were out and able to get for free or pay for, without fear of apple/att denying your claim if you have issues. Then on the next gen phones, they added even more native features that cancel even more wants. Same goes for the droid X, and also FROYO. Wireless tethering, HD camera, faster processing without a hardware upgrade needed. They are listening and they have delivered on this device. Now, if you must change your fonts or the color of them then I guess you would need to root/custom rom your phone. But at the cost of what it will be to replace your bricked phone, Im sure you(meaning everyone) can stand the stock stuff until you are GIVIN the option to customize that. Just stop crying because you can root now, and enjoy this awesome phone.

I like watching these threads of people yelling at each other, I think threads like this should stay on the XDA forums, there's more true technical talk and progress than "i wanna do what the **** ever i want with my phone goddamit, i know it's hella awesome as it is but I want it to be awesomer and stuff now why the **** isnt it rooted yet and wtf's wrong you motorola?!" flames.

this is entertainment, anyhoo, the droid X will sure be rooted soon enough, there's speculation I've seen thrown around that its not far from being rooted, motorola didn't say anything about it not having backdoors, someone's gonna find it. period.
