***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

So I just did a quick measurement, and there is no misprint on the size of the phone in the picture, it is really 136mm, wow that is a big phone.

you're only talking 5.335". My DX is 5" top to bottom. 1/3rd of an inch really isn't that much of a difference. Just under 3/8ths of an inch

Look at it this way. What are you going to do with the powervr that you can't do with the sgx540 ON Android? What Android games will the SGX540 not be able to run? I can't think of any right now.

Wrong question... Not worried about what it runs today. I'm worried about what it'll run over the next 1-2 years.

Hmmm. Based on the telemetry of info and discussion here, might we expect a Razr thin change of interest???

Joking, but still......

Eh, not really. Even if the Japanese-leaked specs on the Galnexusaurus are correct, they'd still beat out the rumored specs for the razr. Also, HD screen is a huge deal.

Some people in this thread seem ready to jump off the Galaxy Nexus train at a moment's notice. Have faith, people. It's just a phone anyway - if you don't end up liking this one there'll be another one. Geez.

I know I'm one that quickly jumps on and off, but I actually think that's indicative of the fact it's just a phone. If we saw it as more than a phone (like the iSheep do), we'd stay on no matter what and just open our mouths for the spoon-fed crap.

We are very selective, we're smart, and we know what we want. If we're offered crap, we won't take it, simple as that. :D

I say take the nooses from around your necks and lighten up. What happened to "take everything with a grain of salt?" Was that thrown out the window for today? Some of you guys are getting all worked up over unconfirmed info. Is waiting for tonight too much to ask for? All of your questions will be answered. Step away from the ledge, and take a deep breath.

Regarding the leaked photo from the asain source: We all saw the Samsung teaser photo with the side profile shot. I think it's pretty easy to tell that the teaser photo and the alleged photo from the leak today are not the same phone. It's probably just a mockup from previous leaked photos. The teaser photo shows a very thin profile with a slight hump at the bottom. The leaked photo displays an iPhone 3GS like round hump seemingly on the entire back. The teaser photo has some credibility. The asian site that leaked it probably has none. Decide for yourselves which one you want to believe.

Well I'm not a gamer, but won't this frame rate affect other things, too? Will it affect flash videos, movies, browsing, animations, etc? Or is it just for games?

Not exactly - that frame rate is but one of several, measured for the GPU performing different tasks - put them together, you have a guesstimate of how the beastie responds under stress.

Videos tend to be 30 fps or less for the most part, and present less of a strain than games by far.

Browsing and animation are affected by the overall fps rate, that's true - but for simple 2d rendering, I'm not sure what that rate would be.

Yeah, but people are acting like it's the end of the world. No need to get so upset. :rolleyes:

considering what's available as far as gpu's on android, that's not a concern for me. we'll be good for awhile

I don't know how accurate the Japanese poster and spec info is. I don't know how legit the BenchmarkGL numbers are. All I know it that we'll know the truth in about 12 hours. So let's not panic and see what the real deal is in 12 hours! Relax, it's just life.

Too much up and down action in the thread ATM. This thread needs a capacitor :)

I am coming back when the info stabilizes. Phew!

Bad news guys, I just asked Eldar if the Prime will be really that huge (136mm compared to 125mm of the SGS2 or even the 132mm height of the 4,7" HTC Titan) and he said yes... :(

Most of that isn't GPU accelerated, so having a weaker GPU isn't going to affect them very much. I can play flash just fine with steady, fluid framerates on my HTC Incredible. If the Galaxy Nexus can't achieve that, Google has messed something up in the last year and a half.

Actually, most of that either currently is or will be hardware accelerated. The reason the Honeycomb browser benchmarks so much better than the Gingerbread browser is because it's hardware accelerated. Flash has been hardware accelerated since one of the 10.x versions I believe.

So, while it's completely relevant, the GPU will be plenty powerful for those actions and shouldn't pose a concern.

125 = 4.92
132 = 5.196
136 = 5.35

I'm just curious what size phone people were going to think a 4.7" screen was going to be? It's going to be slightly longer than a thunderbolt. It's fine. People are making this out to be 7" long.

Here's the info from that page for the lazy :) It's translated from Japanese by Google translate.

REALLY??? We're talking Millimeters here not inches! There are 25.4mm per inch. 1/4 of an inch is 6.35mm and 1/2 of an inch is 12.7mm. Is it really that much of a difference?

I know I'm the bipolar one in the group, but yeah, I agree, why are we making such a huge deal about mm?

If it can fit in my jeans pocket, I'm fine with it. If it can fit in the inside pocket of the suit I have to wear for court and not make it look like I'm carrying a gun in there, I'm good.
