***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

The majority of people who buy an iPhone would not return it for an Android phone. The majority of those wanting an Android phone would not buy an iPhone to begin with. The fact that the Razr goes on pre-order tomorrow has no bearing on the iPhone.

However, those who buy a Razr might very well return it for a Nexus because it is the same platform. If you don't think that Verizon would push back the release of a non-Droid branded phone past the 2 week return date cutoff for a Droid branded phone, then you are naive.

It is my opinion that this is the exact reason Verizon has been so hush hush about the release date of the Nexus. If people know the release date of the Nexus and Verizon starts publicizing it officially, then people would probably hold off on buying the Razr. Believe it or not, there are people that do not know about the Nexus. They do not follow Android closely and only know about phones when the carriers officially announce them and start marketing them with posters, putting them up on the website, etc. People already know about the Razr. There are ads, it's on the site, etc. There's absolutely no mention of the Nexus anywhere regarding Verizon. All makes sense to me, especially considering how close my source is to the Droid marketing campaign.

Your whole theory is flawed. It only encompasses people who purchase the Razr on launch day. If you buy it one day later you would be able to experience both. Those who are planning on doing this can wait one extra day to get the phone, for the ability to return it for the Nexus. It is silly to think that this is part of the marketing strategy.

Take this for what it's worth, but according to my source, the Razr will definitely be released before the Nexus. No time given on how long before, but definitely before.

I can believe this for sure. Gonna be hell waiting, but there will be plenty of RAZR reviewing and research to pass the time.

ics is coming to all the other devices. and the fast camera i bet you almost anything is a software thing, not hardware. all cameras will be faster when they get ics.

ICS won't come to all other devices. And when it does come to some devices, how long will that take? Three months? Six?

You could be right on the camera, but I personally lean more towards it being a hardware feature more than a software feature.

I agree with your statement about waiting one day and blowing the whole 14 day return policy out of the water. But in all honesty, the only ones who would purposefully do that are the ones that know about the Nexus to begin with. There will be tons of people pre-ordering and at Verizon the day of the Razr release. These people will be locked in.

the context was what does this phone have over other NEW phones. ics IS coming to all other NEW phones.

Technically, it was the Klingon ship "Kobayashi Maru" which they renamed.

:P

Kobayashi Maru was the name of the fictional freighter in distress in the neutral zone in an impossible simulation that only Kirk ever beat, by reprogramming the simulation model.

Relevance?

1. Getting square info on the release date is like playing Kobayashi Maru.

2. Rooting is always necessary - Kirk had to, and look at the tech he has.

So - you know. ;)

In general, it's a function of both in regards to the camera. Software and hardware can only take you so far by themselves. DSLR cameras have the hardware but manufacturers constantly compete against each other to produce the quickest camera response in terms of time to first shot from power on and time from shot to shot. Lag can constantly be reduced as long as the hardware is in place to do so.

And as I mentioned earlier, the type of folks who would game the return policy for a chance to have a trial run on the RAZR can just wait a day or two. They would be in the minority, and they're not going to plan their product releases around that, it would be foolish.

The kind of people who will be there on day one will not return the RAZR for the SGN, unless there's some kind of glaring defect with the phone, in which case they'll return it sooner.

That's a seriously random Star Trek reference!

I like it! :D

actually i read a report that its more the hardware than the software. or a combination of both. the nexus s with ICS isn't as fast as the galaxy nexus.

Back to release date of the phone. Even though I don't think it'll drop on the 10th knowing what I know and making a few inferences, I really hope it does because I have Veteran's Day off work. Plenty of time to play with my new toy if that is when it drops. (For those that don't know, Veteran's Day is the 11th)

Considering we have not heard of any other new phones coming up in the near future that are confirmed to have ICS, I'd still say we have at least three months until ICS is out on something other than a Nexus. Plus it'll likely be saddled with MotoBloat, BloatWiz or Sense...bloat(couldn't come up with that one). Heck, we still had phones coming out with Froyo as of earlier this year.

Going back to your original question, ICS *is* the game changer here. It's a major update to the Android OS, and the SGN will be the first with it, quickly followed by the Nexus S. It'll likely be Q1 of 2012 before existing devices get updated or new devices get released with it.

!@#!#@!#@!#@ *hangs head and turns in geek card*

it was called the HMS BOUNTY ...yes I had to look it up :(

edit: just in case you're curious the ship Kahn was marooned on was the SS Botany Bay ,I found it searching the above :(

Thanks, Steven.

The Razr goes on preorder tomorrow. Preordered units will ship Nov. 10th. Official launch day for the Razr is November 8.

Where is this date of the 8th coming from?

Seems all release dates have been Thursdays? Not sure if this is a VZW thing or phone thing to be released on Thursdays though.

I agree. The more plausible explanation is that they hold a phone because they want to give each their own marketing push. Folks who have no idea about releases and specs will walk in on release day or the few days after and two brand new super phones will be quite confusing, since even most reps won't know enough to give a solid recommendation other than what is being pushed by marketing. Oh, and about VZW and Google. Yeah, neither should be worried about which phone you choose since they are both smartphones and Android, but what about the little phone maker called Samsung? Think they want bread crumbs thrown at them? Or Motorola?

Date comes from VZW emails sent to indirect store managers from regional superiors, who got it from their superiors. I agree, Tuesday is weird... but this is the info I have.

I'm willing to bet that the majority of the people who are pre-ordering and at Verizon on release day for this phone WILL know about the Nexus. If they know about the Razr, they've done some reading, and have most likely also heard about the Nexus. Just my thoughts.
